Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best way to book last minute travel from UK to alps?

Hello,

I'm looking to book a last minute self catered apartment in 3 valleys, which is great but I was wondering what to do about the flight? I assume the budget airlines get very expensive last minute, is there as way to get unused seats on charter flights? How do last minute bookers normally get there?

Thanks,

mnbv

p.s. I assume last minute train travel is very expensive? (eurostar to paris, then sleeper to moutier)

It's all expensive if you travel at a weekend. The only way to wait and get cheap travel is to book mid-week but even then it's not going to be if you travel to Geneva or Lyon, which are big business cities. add £60 for a transfer to resort on top as well

If you really want to book last minute, go for a package but you'll have to go for whatever's available in a resort you might not be keen on

mnbv, I don't think you'll find many last minute deals on apartments, booked separately. When are you hoping to travel?

Air fares get more expensive as the time approaches. If you are looking at a last minute bargain people will usually book flights well ahead (and you are already far too late for the cheapest flight prices) then book a catered chalet last minute.

But a lot depends on dates.

mnbv,
If you are wanting to book a last minute self catered apartment you will often be better getting it as part of a package when you may get a decent reduction in low season. Otherwise flights are usually best booked earyl in my experience.
