Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Report (in French) here http://m.alpes.france3.fr/2013/10/13/une-avalanche-finit-sa-course-sur-la-piste-tignes-en-savoie-337565.html

If my translation is correct it seems an off piste skier or skiers triggered an avalanche from the top of the Grand Motte which was 400 metres long, 300 metres wide and which ended up on the piste. The pisteurs searched the area with the aid of search dogs for an hour and a half before assuring themselves that no-one had been buried.

Quote:
The avalanche was near the top of the Grand Motte glacier around lunchtime on Sunday. It followed heavy snow and strong winds.

One report says it was triggered by people skiing off piste above the top station of the cable car. They hiked up after taking the cable car to the top at 3,600m.

Details are sketchy but a full search and rescue operation swung into action in case anyone was caught. 4 people are reported to have been rescued and none is thought to be seriously injured.

The avalanche came across the piste below. It was large - 300m wide and 400m long.
