Hello,
I have just booked to go to Flaine on 4th January for a week, having full time instruction (as no half time left). One other girl from this forum going as well that week. Anyone else going on this date? Any recommendations for this resort? Is there a Spa there that you can use?
Thanks,
Dee

dee3879, I went to Flaine UCPA 2 yrs ago. I stayed in Les Lindars which is the old club med hotel (I think there are 2 UCPA in Flaine). Had a great time, food was plentiful and good quality, good atmosphere in the bar of an evening. Can buy own alcohol from the shop and drink in the restaurant / bar or buy a book of drinks tickets in the bar. I was the only English person that week, half were French and half Swedish. So language not a major issue if you can at least converse a bit in French. Lessons in English and French, full time instruction is tiring but is good. There is no problem if you want to sit out a half day here and there. Equipment is good quality too. To be honest you would struggle to find a more cost effective yet fulfilling holiday.
Flaine is a huge ski area and you will cover a lot of ground with full time instruction. The resort isn't much in itself. I found the most lively place was the UCPA but there are a couple of bars. No spa in the hotel that I know of, can't comment on elsewhere in resort. You should enjoy it.

Well it sounds good!! I'm not getting the coach, I definitely couldn't face that plus getting flights is only slightly more expensive I'm really looking forward to it....Hoping to go twice this upcoming season.

There is a brand new top notch spa opening this Winter as part of La Centaur development which is in the centre of the resort (it has been built on the former site of the public swimming pool). Not sure about the entrance cost...

It's bang next door to the UCPA. It's meant to have some public access but the details aren't finalised yet and it's also maybe late opening....

Hi Dee, i'm thinking about going Flaine UCPA next season after my great experience at Tignes UCPA in April. Did you have a good time? What was the ski instruction like?

Hello,
I would definitely recommend Flaine UCPA, the food was very nice and plentiful, rooms adequate, instruction was ok, our instructor didn't speak much English but overall it was good instruction. Virtually Ski-in / Ski-out, I would go again and may just do that next season. Enjoy!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

That sounds pretty identical to my experience from Tignes UCPA. Did you get to explore much of the other areas in the Grand Massif on your lessons?

Yeah we went into most areas of Grand Massif as we were a high Intermediate group & I had full time lessons so a couple of days we took packed lunches and stayed out all day and explored further afield

You know it makes sense.

Sounds great as exploring the other resorts is definitely something i would want to do if i went. I only did half time lessons in the middle group so we only ever got as far as folie douce in Val before heading back to Tignes. Next trip i'll definitely go for full time lessons in group 4 so we can explore more rather than keeping relatively local.
Is there a free shuttle bus going from Sixt back to the other resorts as i quite like the idea of doing the really long blue?

Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

jkchops, From the long blue (cascade ?), there is a free bus to the next village that links to a cable car back up the mountain, all part of the full area lift pass that you get from UCPA. Plus about 3/4 of the way down the blue there is a restaurant by the lake. Our instructor took us there but no restaurant in sight....just a large sign post and a phone....quick call on the phone and a skidoo arrived which towed us all holding ropes down to the restaurant. Brilliant way to arrive and smashing place to lunch.
