Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to go for Christmas

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
My boyfriend and I are thinking of heading away over christmas, but could do with some advice as to where...

I am an intermediate skier, he is intermediate/advanced. The dates we are looking at are Dec 21st-28th. Ideally we would like to travel from Bournemouth or Southampton, but going from Gatwick is not out of the question as long as the flight home doesn't arrive too late (we have to be back early evening on the 28th). I am thinking a catered chalet would be best so we don't have to worry about cooking or the costs of restaurants, although i could swing to a b&b if there was enough evening dining around at reasonable prices. Budget is £1000 each, preferably a lot less!

So the big question is where do we go? I would like somewhere with a bit of a christmassy feel, but high enough to be snowsure and with a few bars etc (crazy apres ski not really required). At the moment I feel a bit like I am chasing my tail, but am quite tempted by Ischgl or St Anton....

Becstar, are you looking at a package? Does that budget have to include everything including ski hire? At this late stage the most likely way to get a catered deal within that budget might be to wait for a very last minute bargain with a tour operator - and be prepared to be very flexible about where you go, and where you fly from. for DIY, the flights for Christmas week are now pretty expensive.

Most likely looking at a package. Like you say flights are getting pretty expensive now for diy. We have our own skis so no hire required (but ski carriage will be). That budget is ideally to include everything but i'm starting to think it might have to stretch to £1000 + extra for list pass.

Becstar, there seems to be plenty of availability on Crystal's website for Bristol to Salzburg with catered chalets in SkiWelt, Kaprun and Kitzbuhel, prices from £739 + lift pass.

Or try a search on Iglu.

I decided I couldn't wait for bargains - holiday booking is just too exciting!!!

Managed to get a deal with Crystal for a week b&b in St Anton at hotel Golden Kreuz including lift passes and ski carriage for £840 each. I figured there will be plenty of places to eat around and it gives us a bit of a chance to wander and enjoy the evening life there Smile

Very excited already!
