Took a trip to the dry slope last weekend, primarily for some practice for #1 son, who is a 7 year old snowplougher.
I hadn't been up for well over 10 years and to my surprise, I really enjoyed it. An overnight frost had left the mat quite zippy and (this might be my imagination/defective memory) but shaped skis seem to turn on it a lot easier than old style ones did. It felt much more like "normal" skiing than I remember.
Anyway, my own skiing needs a bit of an overhaul since I learned a long time ago when men were men and skis were long and straight ! I got some tips from easiski in the summer.
- bit more open stance
- weight over balls of feet
- don't pole plant/unweight like back in the day
- try and exaggerate new inside knee's position into the turn
Did I forget anything Charlotte ? (btw, Euan picked right up where he left off, confidently plough turning his way down, he was excellent ).
The point (you knew I'd get there, right?) : Is there anything you instructional sages out there reckon I should be wary of when skiing plastic ?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

brian, you probably already know this, but DON'T FALL OVER!!!!
Or if you intend to, invest in some knee/elbow protectors, at least - and watch out for "Dendix thumb"
PS - not instructional sage info, just recent experience - although I've fortunately not ripped off any thumbs (yet....).

GrahamN,
Yes, I've seen a few "Hillend thumbs", never done it myself thankfully. Seemingly the local orthopaedic hospital here, just across the bypass from the Hillend slope, is a world renowned centre of expertise on the condition !

brian, Enjoy it ! Remember that when you get to snow, you'll have to ski more than 200m ! Practise making as little noise when you turn as possible. Rain and frost make it much more enjoyable....

brian, hi brian - hillend also run a fun saturday night race training - 6-9pm, they put out a SL and GS course - for everyone to use, helps line and makes you turn without thinking TOO much about technique - really drills in using those new carving skis properly. maybe see you up there sometime

brian, I'm just thinking he can take against things quite strongly! Don't want him put off ski-ing if he grazes himself! Is there a kids club - must be.

dg3, you might. Can't remember the last time I ran any gates and I wasn't much use then.
easiski, true. He's been off his bike a few times and it hasn't put him off and then you can have something like the gondola incident. You just never know with Euan !
