Just been looking for some new skis to help with my dodgy knee...salomon enduro 750 at about 375 quid...then he tells me i can hire a new pair for 40 quid for the week....!! New ones.!! All ready to go, same pair for hire in italy are 120 euros ...makes me wonder wether to buy ever again..

A bargain £40 a week to hire vs £375 to buy means that it all depends on how much you intend to ski?? You could have your money's worth after 5 years of 2 weeks skiing a year...
Other factors are the convenience of having your own kit and airline ski carriage costs (which would also be payable on hire skis from the UK).
My current skis (rossignol Bandits) were bought online from Skiwear4less - a previous year's model so I saved £££££. The availability of bargain skis online/eBay etc should also be taken into account.

I only keep my skis for 5 years anyway, then get new model. Usally go three times a year so always get my money back on them, especailly when i service my own.
Surgeon suggested a softer ski which helps apparently as the bracket is still in there..will see how i go on at chill factor.
Only pay 15 quid for ski carriage so it could be worth it.
But does make you think how much they appear to over charge for ski hire in resort

yorkshirelad, Get thissen to Otley, lad! Cos there's this Glide n' Slide ski shop tha' knos, wot 'as sum 'arf decent kit. Altho' t'bloke wot runs it is a Scots man, 'ees got tha nous on't skis 'ee sells. An' I bet 'ee'd give a good Tyke a 'arf decent deal on sum stuff wot 'ee 'as got.
