Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lord (Paddy) Ashdown to buy ski chalet in Bosnia

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Lord Ashdown, former leader of the Liberal Democrat party and international community representative in Bosnia-Herzegovina since 2002, is buying a ski chalet in his adoptive country.

In fact, his posting in the country - to enforce the Dayton peace agreement in the war-ravaged former Yugoslav republic - comes to an end in January. He will then return to the UK, but it seems his holiday plans for the winter are very commited to his 'new' country.

Paddy Ashdown is a very keen skier, as this report from Times Online reminds us:
Quote:
... Ashdown is not leaving Bosnia for good. With the cash from his lakeside house, on the market for €200,000 (£135,000), he plans to buy a chalet in the skiing resort of Mount Bjelasnica — “the white one” — where many of 1984 Winter Olympic skiing events were held. He is a fanatical skier — several of his bodyguards have broken limbs trying to keep up with him. “We want to get a chalet up there. It is very cheap. Bosnia is where Croatia was a few years ago, and by getting in now we have a chance to catch the early part of the curve.”

Anyone else skied in the mountains of Sarajevo?

We were in Flaine for new year '87-'88 (I think).
Paddy was there too.
I vividly remember New Year's Eve, we were returning to Flaine Foret from a night of fun in Flaine Forum.
Anybody who has beeen there will be able to picture the scene:
The doors open on the big Ascenseur (ground lift) that takes you up. There is Paddy leaning against the wall, cradeling a bottle of wine like it was a new born baby.
"I'll jshust have one more drink and then I'm going home to bed" he says to everybody and nobody.
Lift goes up, we get out, and there he stays for another round trip.

Next day we are skiing a little tentativly (sore heads) and he whizzes by .....on a MONO!

He is a seriously good skier!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Not since 84. It's changed a bit since then, obviously. I hear the restaurant at the summit is just a burnt-out shell now.
