Interestingly, a third judging method is mentioned for "best ski insurer" and "best specialist travel agent" ...
Quote: |
The best ski insurer and specialist travel agent categories are being assessed by independent research. |
The Telegraph are currently retailing ski insurance policies via one of the shortlisted finalists - Michael Pettifer Insurance - so one can see why something independent is going on there. This arrangement has therefore been approved by snowHeads Scrutineers (SS). I wonder who's carrying out the research?

A friend has recently pointed MPI out to me for ski insurance. Having looked at it, it does seem far better (and also cheaper) that many other policies out there - apparently the owner is a keen skier and his daughter(?) races.

The Pettifer family have been in ski insurance since the year dot. Michael Pettifer's father John was Chairman of the SCGB in 1988-9. The Pettifers operated a firm called Douglas Cox Tyrie, which was the SCGB insurer for a long period ...

By the way, the Telegraph report linked to at the head of this thread ...
Telegraph Ski + Snowboard wrote: |
Frank McMusker, president of the Ski Club of Great Britain |
... isn't correct. The President of the Ski Club of Great Britain is a different Frank - Gardner - who is also the BBC's Security Correspondent. This can be confirmed by the White House. [That's the White House, Wimbledon]
[For the Telegraph's additional information, the President of the United States is Barack Obama, which can be confirmed by the White House in Washington.]
[That's enough presidents and White Houses. Ed]

Can I just mention that we won? "Best Travel Agent"
(its a big deal for us because we're new and working hard to grow in a somewhat shrunken ski industry)
We don't advertise with the Telegraph, but they hired an independent testing company to call everyone in our category, to choose the best service etc. so I don't think any advertising could have an influence anyway.
I got to meet Graham Bell... which was nice.

Well done Sno, and I just hope they didn't give a certain beeper company an award!

Big fan of MPI here, with a healthy attitude not only to off piste cover, but also cover for wrinklies, including those with pre-existing medical conditions.

Not farcical. Any of the other companies could have called upon their previous customers to vote for them in droves, but either didn't or didn't have enough interest. Hardly Nonstop's fault.
Edit: full disclosure, yes, I am one such seasonaire. Yes I did vote for them, but why not? They were amazing, with impeccable service throughout.

thedrewski, No problem with them being exceptional, and I'd have no quibble with them as specialist TO, but they are hardly in the right category & the public vote is rather easy to mobilise for them given that most of their ex customers are probably still networked in some way.
Awards are always like this of course which is why the paying public probably pay little heed to them
....and why sniveller/snowweasel-in-chief stropped off from snowheads cos he could do better
