Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just returned from a 2 week trip to Austria, for a walking / biking holiday with the wife. We were lucky to have mostly good weather, but on one occasion we did get caught in a severe downpour. Being reasonably well prepared I had packed my wet weather gear into my day pack....

I have a set of Rab eVent over-trouser which after an hour in the rain left my bottom half completely drenched, these trousers are about 18 months old and have never been washed or subjected to any rough treatment! Does anyone else have any experience with eVent? Is it that unreliable?

It was also more annoying as my wife who was wearing a set of lidl softshell trousers remained dry!

I'd take them back.
I never choose any of the goretex alternatives.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Most high end waterproof membranes/coatings "wet out" in about an hour of sustained rain and thereafter functionality massively decreases so I've never really counted on them.

Were you wet from water ingress or perspiration? If the outer fabric is saturated, it can affect the breathability significantly.

with eVent you are supposed to wash regularly so i would try washing with a tech wash, I'm sure the eVent jacket i had then said to tumble dry or iron to reproof as well

there you have it, as has been said, you need to wash these and then tumble dry them to reinvigorate the DWR of the fabric and remove dirt from the pores of the eVent

CEM +1. Goretex is the same. After a winter of heavy/sweaty use skinning and skiing, my goretex shell leaked on the shoulders during a Bristol summer downpour. A wash with tech wash sorted it out. When it starts leaking, it'll accelerate as osmosis takes hold and will literally run in rivers down the inside of your sleeves...

It's hard to beat a good heavy tweed. Takes hours before the wet gets through.
