Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi
Looking at buying skis from Germany on Ebay, but postage is £50 which seems a tad expensive. Does anyone know of a cheaper way?
Cheers

afaict, with DHL (who run the postal service, so dropping off at a post office) it might be €30 plus a €20 bulky goods surcharge. But the website has no option to add on the bulky option.
When I bought mine, Sport Conrad used UPS, and they often have offers where shipping is free to EU. They still use DeutschePost/DHL for all the smaller parcels though.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've bought a couple of pairs of skis from Germany and never paid anywhere near that. Sport Conrad charged me € 25.00 last year.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I also used Sport Conrad last year for delivery to France and we were just talking similarly lower amounts than £50.

€20 is what they charge normally, or €0 for several months of the year when they have a special offer.
Vaguely recall bike frames from elsewhere being about £40 shipping between UK and Germany. £50 does seem a bit steep though.

But places like SportConrad will be shipping an enormous amount of stuff and will be able to negotiate a descent rate. An ebay seller with just one pair to ship will be forced to pay full price. In this case £50 is probably not unreasonable.
I've just checked: Interparcel would charge £24 to ship from the UK to Germany but the other way is way over £50.
