Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Champoluc, Feb 2014 half term

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Looks like I can only go skiing during Feb 2014 half term (would prefer Easter but its not feasible) and from reading the threads on here I have been really put off going to any of the main resorts in France (ie paying top $ and it will be packed). So I have been looking at other ski resorts which will be less busy but offer some good runs.

I came across people saying Champoluc, Italy was good and will be quieter. I have found some flights to Malpensa (2 hours from resort) from the UK which are reasonable so just trying to find accomodation. There will be 6 of us (inc 2 kids aged 10 and 13) and we prefer to S/C chalet/apartment to keep costs down but would be open to suggestions for cheap hotels, ideally within walking distance of ski lifts (although we would hire a car for the transfer). I would be grateful for any advice/recommendations.

Cheers

Yoghurt, have just responded to your thread about Morzine...... wink Yes, I think Champoluc would be better but can't help on accommodation.

I;m sure you'll get some helpful info on Champoluc - some people here know it well. Good luck with your group planning. snowHead

Yoghurt, Champoluc is likely to be quieter, food and drink better vfm. You may find accom less easy to find. Skiing is less extensive obviously than the PDS but who uses all of that anyway. You will need to reserve ski school in advance but you may also want to have a look at Ski2.com.

Anywhere in the Aosta Valley would work. Pila is certainly quieter than most major French resorts throughout the season, with the exception of new years week. Busier at weekends but Mon-fri we don't usually have any queues, even during Feb half term.

Hotel Champoluc is the closest hotel to the lift, pretty reasonable.

Hotel Champoluc booked and I am struggling to find somewhere for (now 7 of us so ideally 5 bed).

Terra-alpina looked good but is a bit too small.

Any other recommendations would be great in the Aosta valley-S/C (preferred) or maybe catered.

The area looks good (and high enough) , the flights are reasonable, its just where to stay!

Thank you

Yogurt, I have been hunting for similar accom in the same area for us over new year and found this place- Le Chalet in Ayas/Antagnod. Its in a small village with its own little ski area but a free bus to Champoluc links it to the rest of the Monte Rosa area.

I think we were lucky last Feb half term when we got a 3 bedroom apartment in Argentière for £850 but am struggling to find anything similar for under £1k

I think you were lucky too - if you can find a half-decent 3 bed apartment at half term for £1000 you should grab it.

Have stayed in the Petit Tournalin at half term which is a 10 minutte walk (in outdoor shoes) to the lifts through the trees, lovely family run place. You leave your ski kit in a locker at the lift station.

We stayed at the Relais des Glaciers hotel in Feb. It was a great stay - the kids loved the outdoor heated pool. They have family rooms . If you email them might be accommodating.
They drop you at skihire every morning where you keep your gear and it is just upstairs to main gondola.
After ski it is a walk back in shoes of max 10 min.
Ski2 very present in Champoluc so maybe ask them for options.
