Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Anybody used Hampshire Knee?

Has a body used these people?

http://www.hampshireknee.co.uk/knee-problems/ligament-injury

I am considering doing some initial private consultations (self funded) to get seen by somebody who knows what they are doing a bit sooner. Especially reading what the are saying about bracing being an effective treatment if done soon enough.

Thanks

NickyJ, good idea. Suggest you pm Jonathan Bell to see if he knows them

He has one waiting but he hasn't read it. There are a few others here from Hants based on post so thought it was worth opening up to wider audience Happy

NickyJ, I don't know anything about them, despite being Hampshire-based, but it will be interesting to find out more. Is your knee showing any improvement?

Well, I can put the smallest amount of weight through it which is only painful (while dosed up to the max on drugs) which is an improvement.

Reading up on torn MCLs (the suggestion from the bloke i saw in A&E) I certainly match the symptoms. Having previously ruptured my ACL (in that knee) and tearing my meniscus cartelage I have no doubts I have done something serious Sad

NickyJ, Adrian Wilson is one of the best Orthopaedic Consultants in the UK, and is a real knee specialist. If you have private insurance, try and make sure you see him. I know several people who have been treated by him both privately and on the NHS. All of them think that he is wonderful and he has helped each on to return as far as possible to their level of pre-injury fitness. Sadly his NHS waiting list is rather long, so if you do not have private cover, pay to see him for a consultation privately, then get him to transfer you on to his NHS list. This is one way of a)getting who you want to see on the NHS and b)bypassing all the bureaucratic time-wasting that sadly is an integral part of that once great system.

Samerberg Sue, thanks for that. I will be paying for it myself, and that was the plan - get a descent diagnosis hopefully early treatment in terms of bracing if that is suitable in the hope of avoiding surgery and transfer into NHS if surgery is needed. The one which is closest to me is the one in Eastleigh - and it is Dr Niall Flynn have you heard of him?

I have a target of skiing in mid April as we have it booked for then. At least that is a feasible time period with prompt diagnosis and treatment.

NickyJ, not heard of him in particular, but if he is part of the Wilson team he will have the same philosophy. I would prefer to travel that bit further and try for the top man if I were doing it for me. He is not a guy who has a reputation for being a "salami slicer" (my surgeon's name for surgeons who repeatedly go in unnecessarily and slice off really small amounts of meniscus instead of getting to the bottom of the problem in one good operation), I know of several people being treated by Adrian Wilson for various soft tissue injuries using conservative methods. As for the time scale - until you get a diagnosis it is difficult to say. If it helps, I had a meniscus trim carried out here in Munich by the German Ski team surgeon and I was back skiing 3 weeks later (trims are easier to recover from than repairs). They would not let me teach skiing though until 6 weeks post op as they felt I should be able to take rests whenever I needed to initially. No support bandages or brace required either and I was only on crutches when out in public as a signal to people that I was not too nifty on my pegs! Laughing I dumped them after about 10 days.

Hi, my wife and i have used the following surgeon Niall Flynn 3 cartilage operations and 2 ACL reconstructions, as well as my fathers knee repayment. All very success full, skied within 10 weeks of the cartilage operations. He is the covering knee surgeon for Portsmouth football club, so very familiar with sports damage to the knee.

Ps we are both in our mid forties and ski between 30 and 40 days a year....with no knee problems now.
He operates out of both Portsmouth and chandlers ford hospitals.

SPILLY67, thanks for that. It is Niall Flynn out of Chandlers Ford who I may be seeing through Hampshire Knee so very reassuring to hear.

I am visiting the sports injury doctor their tomorrow. So fingers crossed it will go well.

I have bilateral knee osteoarthritis, and skiing is starting to HUUURT!

A friend of mine came across these guys recently, and managed to get his hands on a demo set of braces:

www.springloadedtechnology.com

Apparently they are awesome and let him ski all day. They haven't fully launched yet, but I think they will be next year. Should be interesting! I signed up for a pre-order... when I get them, I'll let people know how they work.

Have just had an ACL reconstruction by Adrian Wilson at Hampshire Knee in Basingstoke. An excellent surgeon - I'd definitely recommend him.

welove2ski, I received your email about it! But I'm afraid you have to produce the evidence - Idris & I have just had our ACL's reconstructed - him in Chamonix & me by Jonathan Bell at Wimbledon Clinics, & have posted knee photos on the ACL rehab club thread. I hope you'll post one too & join in the rehab discussion Smile

Steilhang, I have been operated on by Mayr and Münch at the OCM in Obersendling (meniscus trims) and both are good. They are teams surgeons for the German Olympic Association and the Germam Ski team. The guy who really sorted out the big pile of shit the Professor of Trauma Surgery at LMU left me with is out here in Rosenheim. He's called Horst Müller-Kittnau and he is brilliant. Had me sorted out and back skiing in 5.5 months despite him having to do so much remedial work. He is based in the Orthozentrum Rosenheim.

What's the problem? Nothing too serious I hope. Confused

Samerberg Sue, sorry, missed your post. No nothing at all. I know of Mayr and Münch, but my wife had her ACL done by Dr. Engelhardt ( the guy who handles the 1860 footballers ). All of them learned from the mad Austrian in Vorarlberg who's name I forget!
