Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... La Plagne 2013 / 2014

 Poster: A snowHead

Currently in Plagne Centre. We had a dusting of maybe 2 or 3 cm last night. Piste conditions are absolutely fine but many of the steeper runs are closed, presumably because of thin cover. I spent yesterday blue cruising and the only unpleasant bit is the last bit down to Les Coches. Peissey Vallandry has very nice conditions on piste, as I also popped over the Vanoise Express for an hour.

Visibility is not great here at the moment, but it came and went yesterday as well, so it might be better later.

If you are booked for Paradiski and, like me, are a happy piste cruiser then all is fine. The resort is very quiet and our chalet is about half full.

Had another brilliant day today. Visibility was not great first things and there were a few reluctant to leave the chalet. I had a lesson booked today with Oxygene, along with Bev and Hippo, so had to go out and it was great.

High was better and spent some time whizzing along Sources. Worked hard on edges and various turns.

After lunch went down to La roche, but I guess everyone had thought of that and it was very cut up. Some grass and stuff coming throough. High better. Verdons was a great cruise. On the way back to the chalet we realised that the race piste was open and enjoyed that.

I used to think I wasn't keen on La plagne. I now realise I knew nothing about the place really and it is excellent. It truly has something for everyone and is a smashing resort.
Still needs more snow, but pistes are fine. Sun forecast tomorrow ans that should be good.

That is worrying, from Montalbert the only access to LA Plagne is now via La Roche. Sad

I totally agree re the skiing, although some of the architecture still appalls me.

Lovely blue-skies day today skiing with a group raising money for Moror Neurone research. Later went over to Vallandry and skied in the sun. Pistes a bit scraped lower down but plenty of superb skiing. If you are booked for La Plagne have no worries.

boredsurfin, The run down to La Roche has been relatively quiet when we have been down there and we haven't had to queue for the chairlift. Yesterday it was a little busier on the run down and it did seem hard in places.

It has been a lovely day today and the new snow made skiing a real pleasure today. More snow is forecast for the next 3 days (40cms on snow-forecast) but the recent predictions haven't been very accurate so it is anybodies guess what will happen.

Bit of new snow this morning, but it appears to be patchy. Not a huge amount evident here at Plagne Centre.
No poodles. Still needs a really big fall to get evrything open but the pistes are excellent. No blacks or off-piste, but that does not bother me!

Have skied across the entire Paradiski from les Arcs 1950 to Champagny this week. A bit icy in places and one or two patches, but there's plenty to do. More snow overnight so off to play in les Arcs today Happy snowHead

Good day. Much colder and plenty of new snow so it looked like it might be a powder day, but not quite. The new snow proved to be very uneven with the winds having unevenly distributed it. By the time I had escorted one of our number down to ski-school it was all over. Bitterly cold wind and increasing levels of sunshine. The piste conditions were not superb, to be honest. A very hard freeze last night with new snow on top meant piles of snow on a scraped surface. The best conditions we found were down to Champagny.

As the sun got up, the pistes got more integrated and it skied quite well really. Quite icy down to La Roche. Some blacks opening, I heard. Still excellent here. If you are out next week, it will be great.

Chris Bish, We found the best snow in Champagny as well although we were only there for a short time this morning and on the way back this evening. They do leave a good covering of powder on the pistes when it snows on the Champagny side so is usually excellent first thing in the morning if you can cope with skiing in a bit of powder.

Most of the sheltered pistes we came across had good snow but the wind was relatively strong and so some of the more exposed ones were hard or patchy.

More snow forecast for Saturday night and Sunday night which is the ideal time for it.

Looks like a glorious day in prospect. Full sun apart from wispy high cloud. Fairly windy so might be very breezy up high. Pistes seem excellent. Resort quiet.

Cool

Awesome last 2 days in La Plagne. The overnight snow on Thursday made Inversens a joy yesterday. Our last day today and blue skies, empty pistes and decent snow was great. Apparently it's going to snow tonight so conditions should be great for anybody arriving today. Pistes doing well though a little icy down near Les Coches today. Thanks Le Plagne, been a great 8 days, will do a full report once home tomorrow

Took the words out of my mouth!

Superb piste skiing today and quite a lot of off-piste action observed. Mont Blanc had its hat on today, and has now disappeared into low dark-looking cloud.

The be-hatted Mont Blanc proved to be a veracious omen, a valid haruspication etc, etc. We left resort early this morning and there was a good 10cm of new snow at Plagne Centre level with more forecast. Indeed, there was snow right down to Moutiers, so obviously colder too.

if you are off to La Plagne this week, all will be good I am sure.

We had a great week and enjoyed the superb location of our chalet. (Graciosa)

Arrived in resort yesterday at Plagne Centre. Great dump of snow over night, all ploughs out this morning. Excellent powder day today with blue sky and sunshine from 9.30 this morning. More snow has just started now and visibility has just gone so called it a day. Should be more great conditions for tomorrow. Looking like it'll be a great week!

Katy_uk18, You arrived at the right time, probably one of the best skiing days of the season so far. It stopped snowing at 09:10 just as we were going in the gondola, the sun came out and it started snowing late afternoon as we were about to come back down.

The forecast for tomorrow is for sun and cold temperatures. A lot of the higher runs, which were closed today, should be open tomorrow so plenty of fresh snow should be available. Very Happy

Nice run down Couloir Cairn today on the Bellecote (despite a delayed opening of the gondola and a mahoosive queue even in the ski schools line!).
Main couloir stable, exit traverse definitely a one at a time job (although not if you were an ESF or UCPA group it seemed...).
Exit gully OK but stay as high & left as possible and head for the saplings as the traverse above the stream is very very scratchy!

Moyenne Face Nord looked reasonably loaded (and an unreasonable proposition), and some brave souls had ventured up to the Grande Face Nord and cut over to Grand Nant but taking an exceptionally cautious line tight up against the rocks (to the point of pointlessness...). Everything from Ruggéri round to Pepin looks very very thin.

Fantastic last day of a cold week. Clear blue skies and little wind so a perfect day. Les Bois was finally open down to Champagny but icy. After tech probs and high winds finally got up the glacier. Rochu was superb! Very Happy

Had a short ski over there yesterday looking for some contrast in the trees. Nice fresh snow over hard base, temperature hovering around 0 and snow all day. Didnt see any closed runs, but TBH at times I couldnt see the run I was actually on rolling eyes

Doom and gloom reports are way over the top IMHO, conditions great on piste.

This exactly - I'm not up there today but Les Coches is usually a really good bet in the snow with plenty of tree lined runs - nothing shut as far as i know.

Just back from a week of fun staying in Les Coches. A moderate dump on Sunday gave epic off piste conditions for Monday. Went with a guide for the day and found some great stuff. Check out the video:

http://youtube.com/v/5b0fFxb7cWg

No real new snow for the rest of the week. Took another guide on Thursday, but wth the upper slopes shut for wind/blasting (lost of blasting all week), we ended up on the lower stuff which was pretty packed with wind and tracks. But still some pockets to be found.

Friday was a proper blue bird day. Not as cold as the rest of the week. With the snow getting firmer I opted for skis for the first time in 10years. Hardish pistes, but not icy. Great ski conditions. Should have snowed over the weekend, so I recon a repeat of last week for this week if not better. Lucky sods who make it out.

Just got back from a week in La Plagne and I must say we found the conditions pretty damn good. There was one run into Les Coches, the last bit as you come to the Lac Noir bubble, which was a bit icy and patchy, but apart from that all the runs we did were in great condition. The dump of snow on the Sunday night certainly helped!
We stuck to the pistes ourselves, but a couple of guys from our chalet went off pisting on the Monday and their videos certainly looked amazing.

We also skied to Les Arcs a couple of days and found the conditions of the run even better over there than in La Plagne. Might be to do with the fact we also thought it seemed less busy in Les Arcs than it was in La Plagne. Saying that though, the longest we queued all week was 10 minutes, on our way back out of Bellecote at the end of the day!

So far so good, plenty snow on piste, and our short off-piste foray today had good snow. The odd little bare patch on some south facing pistes, but to complain about that would be greedy.
