Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We've just booked there and wanted some info regarding apres, local shops, proximity to Chamonix. etc

Cheers

Never stayed in Les Houches but ran a mobile home in Chamonix for a number of years.

It is the first resort to greet you when coming into the valley. It isn't a part of the Chamski pass and they sell their own ski pass.

Not a big resort but has a good variety of runs, some of them among trees.

There aren't many local shops either but the restaurants at the top do offer great view of the valley.

I always had my own wheels so not too sure about the bus service. My guess is Chamonix town centre is 17 miles to Sallanche, the largest town in the area, and Les Houches is somewhere in the middle, possibly 5 miles to Chamonix.

I would say the apres activities are concentrated in Chamonix.

There is not much in Les Houches regarding apres. There is a nice wee bar in the village where most people go for a beer after skiing Les Houches, but it's a quet beer ... nothing like the madness in Cham.

However, you will most likely ski up the valley. Get off the bus when you are in Cham, park your skis outside any bar and away you go, dancing on the tables in ski boots Toofy Grin

You will be able to get busses down to Les Houches until about 10 as far as I remember. The bus will take about 10 or 15 minutes.

Les Houches is currently going through a period of transition. Price of living has shot up in Cham' over the last few years at the cause of second ownership. The bedrock are now moving out to get better value for money. Try the 'Delice' in Les Houches, Fred and Katie are Old Skool Cham' and do some great food and Parties. Otherwise, yep Cham' is the place for apre's ski. Given the logistics of the valley, it's inevitable you'll find out just how good. Hope you have a great time. Twisted Evil
