Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Is nelson better than fernie?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I spent last season in Whistler, and I really need to get out to a smaller resort with a great vibe, great pow, and less whistlerness!
Im tossing up between fernie and nelson
I really like the sound of nelson, it sounds like a really nice town and whitewater sounds good too
Ive also heard good things about fernie

Personally Id rather nelson, the town itself sounds really chilled out and the mountain sounds good
my friend wants to go to fernie though for better job opportunities
Im just concerned fernie is just a mini whistler

Can somebody please let me know what they think of each if you have been to or even lived in both?
What you think of how the mountains compare, and how the living compares

thanks!!!

Been to both, not lived in both. Nelson is cool in a hippy hangover, bit art decoey type way. Fernie is a bit more traditional Canadian mining town that's been partially taken over by Aussies and Non Stop Ski. Fernie ski hill is closer to town and has more lifts than WH20 but WH20 has great road laps and is a day trip from some of the best tree skiing in the world at Red plus other big terrain like Kootenay Pass/ Kootenay Park etc

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've not ridden in the ski areas, but having lived in Whistler and sympathising with you about Whistlerness I can certainly recommend Nelson. As Fatbob says, its a hippy town, but in a good way. I would have stayed a lot longer if I could. Loads of music and art going on, friendly locals who have spent more than 4 months living there and aren't on a BUNAC visa (not knocking it as that's how I got there!). Pow is going to be good in either place, but I think the terrain around Nelson might just pip it. Either way, you'll have an epic season!
