Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Standard vs Performance Skis ?

Standard skis vs "performance" skis ?

My wife and I ski black/red runs and sometimes venture off-piste but we don't do crazy stuff or push the limits. Do we need "performance" / "executive" skis ? Or will the standard carvers do just as well ? I don't want to pay extra if I'm not going to experience a perceptible improvement....

Each to their own, I prefer to have new kit, which the platinum stuff often is.

It adds about 30 euros to a £4000 holiday.

Executive skis improve decision making and get your coffee made for you.

More seriously if you're skiing off piste or doing real performance on piste skiing (clue most people don't do this) having a premium package might enable you to pick the best skis in the shop for you rather than getting fobbed off with rubbish. Of course you'd need to know what skis you want and be a bit forceful so if you don't know enough about ski specs to be able to do that it might be money down the drain.

You'll never know until you see what you get, seen performance skis rented as Standards, and visey versery, it's in the hands of each induvidual shop. For off piste black and red runners, go slightly shorter than you both are tall, no more than 5cm, and aim at around the 90mm-98mm waist width mark.

Blewyn, might be interesting to pay the premium and ask if you can swap around and try different skis - to see what really makes a difference. Then if you can't really distinguish between them all in any consistent way (which I suspect would be the case with me) then don't bother next time! In very different conditions (slick and icy one day, deep and moundy the next) even I can tell the difference.
