Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Single rooms on Ischgl

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello all,

I had a recommendation from a friend to go and check out Ischgl. Does anyone know of any hotels, chalets or b&bs that have single rooms?

Cheers

kosciosco,

Ischgl is famous of its large concentration of 4 star hotels so getting a single room would not be a problem but at an affordable price is.

Many visitors visiting Ischgl with own transport can afford to stay at the nearby villages like Kappl and Mathon both are a few kilometers from Ischgl but have more affordable accommodations. As a couple we paid 365 Euro for a week in a self catering flat in Mathon which is 3 miles from Ischgl and served by regular buses all Silvretta valley resorts are next to the same valley floor road. At that year (2008) the B&B in Mayrhofen cost 50 Euro per couple per night to us. The B&B has gone up to about 60 Euro per couple night in 2011 when we ski Stubai Glacier. In general I didn't find a single room much cheaper than a double room.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yeah, stayed in one in late April, early May this year at the Hotel Tannenhof. It was ok. That's slightly down the valley - about 3 minutes by hire car.

Like almost every Austrian Hotel I've ever stayed in it does smell vaguely of stale tobacco smoke, but my quest for a smoke free Austrian hotel (one where people don't, er, smoke) is ongoing. In Austria, they smoke *everywhere*, even in restaurants and where there are kids about. It's kind of odd, as it's otherwise a clean and hygienic sort of place.

kosciosco, We had a single in our group this year, so I have spent far too much time searching out single rooms in Ischgl Toofy Grin

A word of warning – they do shift quickly so book early. It didn't help that I was trying to get rooms for several people configurations (don't ask). The group with the single room ended up staying in the Alpenrose in Galtür, a short bus ride away. I didn't hear any complaints and it was a good deal cheaper than Ischgl itself. I stayed at the Arnika in Ischgl, which I can't recommend enough and it is cheaper than many of the others. Good location but away from the noise (about 5 mins walk into town, about 3 mins from the Dorftunnel magic carpet to the lifts). The food was absolutely superb, and there was no smoking inside the hotel so it didn't smell at all.

Anyway, loads of hotels and B&Bs have single rooms (no chalets there really) and you are welcome to my list. These are ordered vaguely by price, low-high, though I didn't distinguish in my info whether they are actually single rooms, or larger rooms with no/small supplement as it did not matter:

B&B with singles
Gidishof
Eggerstuberl
Austria
Lasalt
Alpenhof
Salner
Vogt
Fortuna
Fimba
Pra Posta
Feriengluck
Almhof
Montanara
Alpina

Hotels with singles
Victoria
Arnika
Central
Olympia
Prennerhof
Piz Tasna
Ischglerhof
Seiblishof

There are many more places, especially B&Bs, that I don't have details other than a name for because we ended up looking for hotels. There are also several others that were either completely booked up or way out of budget (you can pay many ££££ for a week there without trying that hard!) that I didn't bother noting.

Hope that helps.
