Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

On 19 May, around 150 climbed the last 3,000ft of the peak from Camp IV within hours of each other.

Busy. Sounds like they need a good cafe rather than a ladder.

Will it be called "The Hilary Step Ladder"?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

An eight seat detachable would seem like the obvious way forward?

If they got all the 70-80 year olds off the mountain the queue might move faster.

Nah useless. It would be unreasonable to get winter tires for those few km while you would drive majority of that travel on non-snow roads Smile

 You know it makes sense.

They need two ladders. Maybe an escalator might be an idea.

If you were Göran Kropp you'd cycle all the way there and then solo the summit to boot:

altis, b****r you beat me to it. Goran Kropp ascent amazing achievement - no oxygen, no support.

before the Everest ascent he had climbed K2:

Guardian obit: '....In 1993, after becoming the first Swede to climb K2, he left the army and hit the lecture circuit with extrovert, self-mocking performances. He loved being on stage, and debunking the inflated egos of mediocre climbers swarming over Everest...'.

And he was on the mountain during the 1996 disaster - attempted, failed, then ascended successfully two weeks' later - admired by the IMAX crew on the hill at the time.

Everest is high. Fine. Would I like to climb it without O2. Yes. Would I do it now, with the long lines of people...No. NE ridge wouldn't be crowded but way above normal folks' abilities.

There are so many other challenges for anyone interested in climbing. Huge faces in South America with no first ascent. Walker Spur. Droites in the winter (read jamie fisher's account).

But frankly, just the absolute stillness of the Valais peaks can be where it's at....and it's one thing when the weather is set fair, another thing entirely when it all closes in.

Never understand peak baggers.

It's one thing for couch patatos to WISH to run a marathon, do an Ironman, or climb Everest, just to say they can. But usually, by the time they actually got off the couch and train some, they would have realized the goal isn't as important as the process. Sure, it's a challenge so it makes for a good excuse to go exercise (which is usually THE fun part, for those of us who do).

The fact so many others wants to claim they climb this peak or that one, I never understand. Is anyone really that impressed if someone you know "did" Mt. Everest?
