Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Knee Physio - near Shrewsbury

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Can anyone recommend a physio (for knees!) in or near Shrewsbury? I'd prefer to go to a recommended practitioner rather than put a pin in a list - if its possible!!

No diagnosis of knee problem - the doc in La Plagne two seasons ago told me to wear a light knee support and that my right knee would become as bad as my left.

It isn't dreadful but has slowed down my progress in skiing (partly due to me worrying about it more than it hurting - although soft sticky/slushy snow does 'pull' the ligament

The issue is a pulled ligament behind the knee cap. Like I said, no actual diagnosis but I have got knee issues from an injury twenty years ago (no treatment, just rest) and lack of fitness. I plan to hit the gym this summer as I really need to shift the excess weight (lost a dress size this winter, one and a half to go!) and get fit enough to improve my skiing to the standard I want to get to Smile

So, any recommendation?

Cheers

Try Robert Booth - he has a private practice at his house just outside Shrewsbury. Don't think he specialises particularly in knees but he helped fix my hamstrings a number of years ago. If you google him you should find his contact details.

chaletgirl, Check out the guys at http://www.lilleshall.com/ up at the National Sports Center there.

It's also the PFA rehab center so specialise in rehabbing sports injuries. Phil Newton there guided my ACL rehab. Not expensive either and about 30 mins from Shrewsbury.

I'm not getting to Shrewsbury for another week or so. But will be there for the summer (well, near Crew Green, so just about in Wales!). Had a look at the website and my friends that I'm with this weekend have used them!! Will give them a shout too when I get to my summer home!! Very Happy

chaletgirl, Hope it all goes OK Smile

If you fancy a bit of skiing check out the slope at Telford on a Monday evening. The ski school is pretty quiet in the Summer Smile

Will definitely have a look. I really need to spend some time on a slope on a board this summer - I can just about do turns and have proved it doesn't hurt my knee!! So whilst I want to stay skiing, I need to learn to board as 'back up' (and cos it looks amazing for off piste!!) Good to know it is quiet for the summer!! Very Happy

Well, turns out that the issue is not my knee at all. The 1st metatarsal on both feet is about 1cm too short, causing both feet to roll inward. The left foot has collapsed and the bones are now (bulging) where the instep should be. The lack of support at the foot is causing the knee pain. Also have progressive arthritis in both feet and ankles Sad

Short term, need MUCH higher instep support orthotics. And a Cortisone injection in the top of the left foot to try and reduce some of the pain until the . . . .

Long term, a plate from ankle to big toe. 3 month recovery. Season 2014/15 is probably out Sad

So, having waited this long to find out what is actually causing the pains in my feet and knee, I know have to go find a job for the winter Smile

That sounds very nasty. Sympathies. Sad I think I'd seek at least one second opinion and have a good go with the best possible orthotics, physio, exercise and losing weight before I thought about a plate from ankle to big toe.

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Thanx guys.

went to Hospital on weds for a cortisone injection in my left foot (into the joint of the first metetarsal and the first cuneiform bones

ended up having that planned injection and then a ganglion cyst drained and cortisone injected between the 3rd metetarsal and the 3rd cuneiform bones. Poor foot felt the size of a football (it wasn't, I checked!!!)

Foot was incredibly painful (more than the previous single injection into ligament in base of right foot three years ago!) also found out that it's bloody difficult to use crutches when you've not used them in about 25 years and are unfit and not exactly 'light'!!!!

The guy doing the injection gave me more info about the proposed op. It's amazing what you miss hear or forget when emotional at a consultant appointment. Anyway. The proposed op is to plate/fuse the first metetarsal to the first cuneiform bone. This will be partly based on how effective the cortisone injection is and will be to provide support where my foot has collapsed

The medium orthotics have helped a bit. Taking cider vinegar and honey has helped a LOT (weirdly!). Looking forward to being able to walk on the left foot again and to getting the 'proper' orthotics requested by the consultant!!!

Can now look for a bar job for the season knowing I won't be in as much pain as have been in the summer bar job Smile and should be less painful to put on ski boots too Smile

Two things I have to get very serious about are getting fit and losing weight if only because I won't be able to use crutches for weeks at this weight and level of unfitness! Three days and my arms, shoulders and tummy muscles (it appears I do have some!!) are screaming!! Both will be easier now I will have less pain. I comfort eat and this summer gave struggled to walk at work so comfort eaten and 'couldn't' do exercise due to pain. Will start by walking as soon as the left foot has recovered from the injections Smile

Woohoo Smile sooooo looking forward to being able to dance again!!!
