Some good scores last night.. The new app seems good but I can't get the same breakdown... as on the old screen.. ( or I haven't found it yet !) |
I get the impression that they have responded to players complaints that they had difficulty making or amending picks on the move and the app is not (yet) intended to replicate the base system analysis - not sure whether it is on the development list

Ok now I get it. I got a couple of top 20 places in the first week of the world championships but no change to my score. Can be a bit demotivating

@georgedelaney, I will update our scores after the Men's Slalom tomorrow
Your score pre-Beaver Creek was 44.90 - you have had a couple of improved scores at Beaver Creek so as of yesterdays race you have a score of 47.40 - this is made up of your best 5 scores - 52.00 - 48.50 - 47.50 - 45.00 - 44.00 - total 237.00 - average 47.40
So your average score will improve if you score more than your lowest counting score - ie 44.00
Its a weird way of scoring and doesn't encourage regular picks - to my mind it should be total scores of all races divided by the total number of races so a nil pick is a nil score and reduces overall average scores but I doubt that will change

@codyaitch, There is a huge recruitment campaign in Germany now and the person who has toppled me has only got 3 results, all from this week. With the best will in the world his/her average is either 32 ( averaged for the 3 results) or just 19 if they apply the best 5 rule. So I should have my place back pretty soon. I've contacted Michael to point out the oddity of this particular result.
I still think the main site is pretty buggy to be honest. I don't like the App as it is simply an interface to check while on the move, not to make the actual selections as you don't seem to be able to access the listing of all the racers (not surprising considering the size of the DB).

Summary at week 13
Samerberg Sue - 52.90 - 2nd in Ger - 66th overall
codyaitch - 50.80 - 2nd in GB - 128th overall
briand6868 - 48.80 - 1st in Ire - 195th overall
WayneC - 48.80 - 7th in GB - 195th overall
georgedelaney - 47.40 - 3rd in Ire - 247th overall
Dr Che - 46.95 - 11th ln GB - 268th overall
kooky - 45.95 - 10th in Aus - 301st overall
davkt - 42.10 - 4th in Arg - 437th overall
marshpa - 35.80 - 27th in GB - 635th overall
@Samerberg Sue, The guy who has overtaken you is clearly there under false pretences - the FSR rules say the average of the best 5 races so hopefully you will be corrected shortly.
I agree that the main system is still buggy - general works ok but the odd issues are frustrating - we can forget the team scores and table - they are just wrong - but its a bit of fun and together with the Fb PPP adds extra interest to individual selections rather than just the overall result.

Awful week score wise - best score anybody could manage in the four races was 37.00 so nobody's overall score changed.
The system appears to have gone into meltdown because none of the overall positions have changed - I find that difficult to believe - and the positions on individual races over the weekend are rubbish
Apart from that all is well !!!!

|
|
|
The person in first position in Germany has only 4 scores - all Beaver Creek races, their average is wrong which ever way you look at it. The calculations are all over the place to be honest. I'm sure some of the scores people have achieved for races are either fiddled or they have a hack that allows them to change their picks after the system closes them.
I've emailed Michael to point out that some with one good score should not be able to head a league where others have played all season. We don't get any prizes on this side of the Pond except for our country positions, so they should make sure that these blimps and anomalies do not occur.

@queen bodecia, - welcombe - I expect @Samerberg Sue will be issuing the usual invites before Solden.
We are hoping to attract FSRL seasonaires who will still be still be submitting selections at the end of the season - we started in October with 9 but were down to 5 by March
And yes it does encourage you to watch more and to take an interest in the 'improving' skiers and not just the top groups

Spammed but at least I didn't have to go searching for the thread!
Sölden approaches, it is only about 50 day or so (CBA to look at the Sölden page to get the exact amount). How many of you are prepared to play again this season? When you join us we need you to be prepared to play throughout the whole season as we have had problems with people joining for the first couple of races then losing interest. The faithful have helped us to some fairly respectable positions in the top 20 in the world over the past few seasons, despite the loss of members. If we had the full 10 members, I'm pretty sure we could be on the podium.
I'll be in Sölden as usual for the first race weekend hopefully things will have been properly organised!

Still trying to get into the site - I've message Mike Nyman as the title page is dead - nothing works
Now only 17 days to go before the first race. I'll be at Sölden from the 22nd through to the 26th, so I'm hoping to meet up with some of the racers on training days (the Thursday and Friday, plus the Monday after the races).
So far we have the following confirmed members based on last year's members: queen bodecia, Kooky, Samerberg Sue, briand6868, plus an extra volunteer FastCarver74 if we need them.
I'm hoping that andy, DrChe, georgedelaney, WayneC and davkt will all confirm again this year too.
I'll stick with the snowHead Hopefuls name some way or another so that people know who the request comes from when I finally get in to get the team up and running.
I'll need your FSR user names to message you on the FSR site - if it is different let me know. I'm still Suzy_Proell, representing Germany. I know some of your names Kooky = elanski of Austria, , queen bodecia = queenie of Ireland or GB? for example - what about everyone else?

Has anyone managed to get into the new site yet? I've got in via IE on my office laptop but I don't use that on a daily basis as I'm only in the office 2 days a week. I also don't use Internet Explorer. I use Chrome on a Windows 8.1 laptop or an iPad (Air 2 but still not updated to the new iOS).
I found the new interface fairly pleasant but not very intuituve to be honest. I still can't find a way to edit the team, so adding/deleting members is still the proverbial PITA. I've mailed Mike Nyman but if anyone has any solutions, I'd appreciate some help.

I use the iOS app. It's pretty much the same as the website, in terms of look and functionality. Picks for the first GS races done. It's a bit weird that they have Beni Raich as pickable. Thought he announced his retirement this summer.

@FastCarver74, you can select different listings which is something not available before, FIS standing, alphabetical, nationality or trending. The default is the current FIS listings, which for the first races will be the final positions from last season.
I found it interesting that Lindsey Vonn is not listed although she says she is going to compete, she is currently 29th on the GS listings based on last season, so her WCSL draw will hand her either a very early or quite a relatively late top 30 start number depending on how the top seeding groups decide to go. She has plenty of excuses ready including the newly "broken" ankle to add to her list from previous seasons
Carlo Janka, Aksel Lund Svindal, Mats Olsson are some of the no shows for Sölden - injuries or slower than expected recoveries being the main causes. The list for the girls not racing there is even longer and includes a few of the Swiss girls and Swenn-Larson from Sweden. As soon as I hear who is a no show, I'll update the team members as usual. Neureuther is also saying he may not compete due to not having enough snow time to prepare.
