Wear The Fox Hat, that beats the 30cm of fresh I was playing in yesterday then, but 30cm is still very nice. GFS seems to think a decent dump in Austria (Schladming) later tonight / tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Thanks MrDan, I'm trying to relax and be calm like the doctor told me but sometimes I find myself logged into Snowheads asking stupid questions.

It was strapped on!
Will be uploading pics tonight (we took about 500, so I'm cropping some and culling others).
Spoke to a piste basher driver who had done a 12 hour shift (2pm-2am) on Thursday/Friday - it wasn't about bashing the piste, but about moving snow off it to keep the runs open.

About 20cms here this morning, though earlier on it was rain below about 1300m. We just drove up from Albertville and it's snowing lower now - chains for the last 10kms up the mountain, much of which is badly in need of another plough... They were blowing snow last night too; I could hear it from my bedroom window! They're taking no chances for the school hols; 52/52 runs open in Les Saisies.

we have 50cm here at 1400m, up the mountain there is just tons and tons of snow. And still snowing! Get in!

Errggghhhhhh, I leave outlooks to those who know better (they usually do ) but frankly today's snow in Gstaad was a damp whimper: temperatures are crazily high ( 3 degrees at 2000m) at 1200 hours. Time to go high if you have the choice this and next week ? ?????

Agenterre, colder than that here in Les Arcs at the moment and it felt colder still in Courchevel where I was skiing today. I'd guess about 30cm in Courchevel and slightly less than that in Les Arcs, so no complaints from me What's the forecast for the next couple of days?

brian, rob@rar, I know its sounds daft .. but true !! and those temps for Les Diablerets have to be wrong, I'd take photos of me in Speedos but they would be censored ... 1 degree here and trying to snow at the moment.

Agenterre, well, if it is, the SLF's data gathering has really gone tits up !
Most of these points are in the 1800-2400m kind of range.

Cold here, but it wasn't that cold earlier (1550m) around freezing at 8 am, -5 now and still dropping. Still snowing too. Looking very good. Shame about the speedos....

Renry, this might be too late .... but clearing up a bit tomorrow followed by a bit more snow on Wednesday, rain below 1500m-ish, then clearing up and sunny Thu-Sat with clear skies and overnight frosts but sunny daytimes which will probably feel quite spring-like.
The longer term outlook depends where the High pressure that looks likely to build ends up putting itself.
This is about best case, the alps on the cool side of the high (centred over Ireland) with the outside-ish chance of maybe some snow towards the middle of next week, highest chance to the east, ie. Austria, and would be fairly cold right across the alps.
More likely I think, is the continuation of settled, sunny weather for the half term crowds.

Whistler is about to be dumped on .... AGAIN
Probably around 50cm+ in the next 4 - 5 days. Cold temps is keeping the snow awesome. I really haven't seen such consistently good snow here. I have only been here 5 years though.

Mosha Marc, where are you going ? I think this morning's output is slightly more hopeful for next midweek onwards, but I fear that western Switzerland ( ) and France are too far west.
Still plenty of time for things to shift a bit my way, fingers crossed.

It'll be very transient Rob, probably over by now (or soon will be) as there's not a lot around to fuel it...

Snow-forecast had it exactly right for us (they've been pretty good this year, actually, as long as you don't get excited or suicidal about the distant stuff). Their snow quantity forecast has been consistently low, however; I don't think they've factored in the local "Beaufortain effect"; we get lots of snow here.
The local forecast was OK too, though a bit optimistic about freezing level. The actual weather at 1550m was light rain first thing at 1550m, now the freezing level is moving down a little and we now have very light, useless, rather sleety, snow. Maybe "quelques flocons" of proper stuff later. Tiny quantities forecast. Still, yesterday was magnificent with fresh snow and big piles of powder, and tomorrow is forecast wall to wall sun. Not complaining. We go home on Friday, to avoid the holiday crowds; January has been a great month to ski, overall, with regular decent top ups of snow and plenty of sunshine.

kitenski, mild and wet from Thursday stretching over the weekend
I think/hope that the depth that's in the gullies will survive that* and then it looks like a nice settled spell which should produce some good spring snow for half term week.
* have serious worries about the lower slopes and any thin areas which may well break things up at Glenshee and the Lecht and the lower runs at the other areas though.
