Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just, back, awesome day. First day back on skis this winter, like riding a bike. Cool A fair amount of the mountain open (Avoriaz) Pistes fast, cold and in good shape, home run a little dodgy for the last 10m. Off piste(30-50cm of powder) good but patchy and the recent rain has exposed a few things. On the whole a great day to kick off my season.

Not at all mate. Just glad you ventured over from Chamonix. Lots of people turn their noses up at the PDS. I'm safely tucked up in London until next weekend.

PhillipStanton, Let them turn their noses up. Most of those types 'Too Cool for Skool.' spent 4 hours queuing at the Grand Montets yesterday and then went around bragging about how great it was to have been there. I spent an hour in the car, with my mate to only then spent the day on empty pistes and fresh powder. Toofy Grin

I guess that answers my question as to why you went over there! I love underrated resorts for the same reason Smile

Thought there was plenty of the white stuff around or has the wind taken it all off? Good for business though Smile

Hi all, it's soooo good to see the white stuff falling again in Les Gets - I'm addicted to watching the web cams, it looks sooo amazing-so different from when watching last year..... can't wait to get my board on, bring on the powders days Smile

We go out 16th Feb for a week, just hoping that the snow continues - does anyone know if it's going to be a better winter 2008 for the PDS?

Everything crossed that it will continue and to those who are heading out soon, have a wicked time wink

Back to web cams, see ya! snowHead

If anyone is heading to Avoriaz anytime soo, would they mind scraping the ice of the Panoramic webcam... it's ruining my view of all the snow.

Thanks muchly Very Happy

PhillipStanton, How does the ski test work then? Do you just rock up at Avoriaz and there will be a whole load of ski's there ready to try.

I thought Les Gets was only officially opening next weekend.

I think Pre-la-Joux was partailly open this last weekend, and it looks as if the Linga section and the Pre-La-Joux section including the link with Avoriaz will open from this weekend and everyday thereafter.

From what I can gather it will just be the Super Chatel section that will open the follwoing weekend(22nd).

Posted this on the Resorts forum, but will ask here (given there seems to be more activity on this thread!):

MorganW wrote:
Heading down to Morzine on Friday morning and should arrive on site by 1pm. What are my chances of being able to ski on the Friday PM? The resort doesn't officially open until Saturday (I believe) but does this mean no lifts will be running at all on the Friday?

Given the current snow cover looks pretty good at both sites, does anyone have a recommendation for which ski area we should tackle (ability is average, being confident on reds but with no style!)?

Also, the lift pass for Sat/Sun skiing at Avoriaz or Morzine looks very good value at about €36. However, does that only cover skiing at one or the other areas? Or is one able to ski at both Avoriaz AND Morzine? Or, to do that do you need to spend the extra on the PDS ski area pass?

Sorry about all the questions Smile Thanks for anyone who has the time to reply!

MorganW, Fairly sure something will be open Friday. If the snow conditions/weather are good either should be fine for you (plenty of runs that are not too challenging), good reports from Avoriaz though. Not sure about the lift pass so ask when you arrive. I think its one area only.

Sure you'll have a great time anyway.

We think Les Gets is opening some lifts tomorrow (Weds) but it's just a rumour at the minute! I imagine it will definitely open up some areas this weeknd (as last weekend), but no news on SAGETS website yet. There was at least 1m of snow at the top of Ranfoilly on Saturday when I skinned up and we have had heaps (not a very accurate measurement ) since.
