sah,
Not really. Picadilly has never been the same since Gunar stoppef there.
If easter is late KK always closes before. The two April weeks before Easter weekend
are dead as far as business goes.
I dont know for sure but expect Heustadl ro close also on 5th if not before.
Taps ski bum race is on 7 or 8th. Weather they stay open till Easter i doubt it.
Only places for sure that will be open at Easter that i know will be.
Mooserwirt, Sennhutte, Rodelalm,Fanghouse, Underground.
Underground will close April 20th.

Taps Race is on the 8th, but they tend to stay open until pretty much the end. Keller Bar had therein last Après over a week ago, but with the sunny weather and location they don't always get that many people heading there for it. Shame really as there is always a good atmosphere and the live band are good.
Some staff from both UK TO's and local jobs have already finished for the season. Some of the Scandi/Northern European TO's have their last guests next week and some of the UK TO chalets are starting to shut in the next few weeks.

Really pleasant day bumbling around on piste whilst pals play in the off piste - still good on north facing slopes on Rendl and Stuben. Taking it super steady with my ankle, was OK yesterday too part from removing boot which was so painful. Strange skiing about just cruising, like skiing years ago and it's quite disconcerting having everyone ripping by.....keep pressing my boost button then realising got to be careful and slowing own again. Great to be out though, feared the worst Monday, since then making decent progress with boots fully cranked up.
Arlberg pistes still in great shape, new snow at weekend and colder temps should give much needed top up.

Already been predicted further up.
Tonight temperature will sink & start Snowing & allday Sunday.
Could be getting 50cm+.
This will be great for the all the pistes.
Off piste is down to the rocks (never got above them this season) right now so the new snow will only
Be supeficially covering. The exposed grassy area are to warm now for
The snow to settle & already by Tuesday the sun will back.
If you dont want to break your ankle, hip or worse stay on the marked trails.
Avalanche danger will be high

stanton, looks like even Bergfex got it right, might be the first time this season
Off piste could be risky, but if it really is 50cm+ and winds are not too strong the there will be good powder if you stay high up; the top of Schindler and Mattun can't be bare rocks can they? I bet the locals will be queuing for Valuga on Monday morning.

In Ski Area boundary it is not good , plus it is dangerous, controlled slides have lifted all the snow down to earth.
You really need to know the the rock free "lines" to be safe.
If we get a much snow as they are saying I can guarantee the top lifts will be closed & when they do open Steisbachtal will be get closed in the Afternoon because of the danger of slides from the south faces.
Best place as always will be Zurs

Echoing what others have said above the snowpack will likely be very unstable if it comes, especially on south facing grassy slopes, slides all over the place, the ground is very warm. Temperatures well above freezing all week, 14c at St Christoph when we drove through on route to Dornbirn 2pm. Skied until 1pm but slush fest so packed in early.
Hope the snow arrives, loads of locals hauled into town today on 3 day long weekends hoping for a end of season bash, bars were filling as we left and looks like many had decided to go on the beer rather than surfing the slush!

Its not just that. Dutch & Germans especially will not bother if
conditions are not good. They would save there money.
Lets hope for a massive dump ! |
On the whole the Farmer Boys have been spot on this season & their prediction is the next BIG (over 1 metre) snow will come in late April after the
lifts close. The only other 1 metre dump we have had this season was before the lifts opened begining of the season last year.
As I type the clouds are rolling into Lechtal .....

It has (finally) started snowing in resort about an hour or so ago (timing subject to Jäger adjustments). Sticking to colder areas but not roads or grass not north facing so will get that piste top up how much remains to be seen, not snowing as much as it was when the rain finally turned to snow. Fingers crossed the pistes get a decent top up.

It has been snowing steadily all day, with trees and gardens here at resort level that were green yesterday now covered by a nice blanket of fresh, white snow. The roads are on the whole very clear but wet, obviously too warm still for the snow to settle. White stuff is still falling though and sounds like the snow cannons have been fired up too.

sah, thewinelake, all those are good recommendations. They are all based on ZAMG data which is the Austrian met office. Don't take too much notice of the farmer boys/cows/locals schtick that stanton is peddling this year. Locals and farmers are all likely to use the same forecasts as those above, though they'll certainly have a better idea of what is under the snow which is useful! And may well have a better idea of how in the short term prevailing weather conditions may be affected by the local landscape.

nozawaonsen,
The farmer boys in the valley do indeed listen to the officual weather however
they can almost instantly predict if its going to be correct or not.
The Arlberg sits is a very special weather axis.
Just feeling the Fohn & looking at the moon, clouds on the southern ridges they
Know if predicted snow will realise or not.

Well it seems the place has been transformed from last week. All the snow was hard work on the legs but still good fun. From what I saw, Stuben seems to have got the most snow. The trees on the way up to the Albona Mittelstation were cloaked. And the sun was shining too. Snowing again now. Must be time for a beer.

Anyone gonna be in St. Anton either from tomorrow to Wednesday or from the 6th to the 9th? I'm trying to plan a trip. Also, do you think there will be a big difference in conditions if I wait until the 6th to go?
|
|
|

JTDixon, who knows with conditions from the 6th, it does look a period of warm and sunny weather next week....
but also UK and Belgium school holidays start from the 6th (we are heading to Stuben on the 6th) so next week would be quieter I would think.

Been pretty much perfect weather this week. Big dump on the Sunday we arrived and beautiful sunshine ever since. The mild weather over the last two days though has seen the snow off piste disappearing at an alarming rate. Easter holidays in the UK have started so there has been an influx of Brits with kids in St Christoph today.
