Cold doesn't even begin to describe it.
-22 in the Ardent car park at 9:30 when we set off for a clockwise circuit of the Portes du Soleil. So, probably -26 at the top of the Linderats/Plaine Dranse ridge where an absolutely ferocious wind must have pushed it into the -30s. And then it got colder in the afternoon.
Even being really careful about stopping before we got really cold (around every 45 minutes) I ended the day with toes that required an hour to thaw out. It took 30 minutes to get my boots off and, even then, I needed help to get out of them.
Why on earth did we stay out if it was so cold? Because the snow is absolutely fantastic (almost) everywhere. Even the south-facing slopes in Morgins.
The best two runs of the day were our very first - the run down to Pre la Joux - and the run black down to the Petit Chatel chair, which had lovely chalky snow on bumps of just the right side.
I've been off the slopes for two and a bit hours now and am still shivering though.m
Fiirst cable car yesterday at 8.30 and doors would not shut...Frozen at -19 in village. At the top we were due to do our tele practice runs for a race. Thought a good idea to warm legs with quick run to Crosets . Only to find every lift frozen and not working in the crosets bowl.We spent a few minutes in the snack bar with about 200 hundred other skiers, with rumour speeding that Mossettes Swiss side would not open at all. New Grand Conche in about an hour and 8 man questionable! Eeek! We along with about 100 folks walked back up to Chaudron restaurant so people could get out of the bowl.....rather hot after this and a lot if slightly annoyed people as you might imagine. ( Seen some great photos of the snake of walkers up the piste!)
Eventually Grand Conche spluttered and started properly about 11.30am and Crosets 8 man about 10.30am
! We have been warned in ski schools this side not to take small children on any old or long lifts today when teaching as reliability is not good with these extreme temps! Looks like Mossettes Swiss may not be open today or tomorrow. Forecast colder today too. But wow, the snow is awesome and if you make lots of little turns and work hard you can stay nice and toasty
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

zzz has just popped around to pick something up and reports -22 on his thermometer at home overnight.
MrsFS and I were going to go for a gentle rando, but it was -19 on our comedy weather station and we've decided that lunch a nice lunch in Chamonix is a far better idea.
It's a balmy -11 on the comedy weather station this evening - although the car, which we trust more, claims -15.

Just got back after 4 days in Chatel, fantastic snow and weather. We only went to pre le joux and linga once, we spent the rest of the time between super chatel and morgine hunting out the powder fields or cruising long blues.
The only slight complaint I could ever have is the amount of drag lifts there. There are literally no chairs lifts once you get out of the resort onto the slopes in that part of the ski area and the drags are so slow that it takes forever to get up the top again. You also have a few areas where it is very flat for a boarder but the lack of people and the off piste more than makes up for that.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

-18 and snowing lightly as we passed through Les Gets on the way to the airport at oh-dark-thirty this morning.
I'm very used to the road to Taninges and it was unusually lethal this morning.
You know it makes sense.

Correct! Travelled down by car as we always do, two cars, eight guys. However Lloyd (Captain Dobson) was called back to his army base in Germany last minute so had to fly from Germany and meet us in resort. Hence: AWOL.
However.......we all hit IGLOO on the last night and Captain Dobson consummed rather alot of alcohol. We all made it back to Eglantines around 0300 hours but Dobson was nowhere to be seen. His transfer pick-up was at 0530 so three of us walked the streets looking for him until 0500. Turns out Captain dobson found his way to a hotel where he slept in a corridor until 0700. Needless to say he missed his transfer and flight. The driving group then had to drive home after no sleep via Geneva airport to drop off Captain Dobson, now officially AWOL!

astroarcadia, to be fair you left it pretty tidy so I shall let you off!
Went out today with Mr NN - up the Pleney over to Les Get - Mont Chery - amazing as always. Decided to have a go on the moguls on Mouflon - smashed it Then went back through Les Gets down and up Trocs to Nyon and then back (via the Fys) to Pleney. Hot chocolate and rum in Crepu and then we raided the cheese shop and are now munching our way through some lush cheese and saucisson!
Hardly any crowds at the moment.... ahhhh... bliss

Just got back from Morzine after a week there, Les Gets, Avoriaz and the snow is amazing.
Snowed most of last week which reduced the visibility but a nice soft snow sheet fell every day/night.
On the downside, temperatures were around -25 in some places

Still cold but glorious! Had to buy more handwarmers when in Les Gets (and a nutella crepe obviously). Snow is in great condition - the Rainfolly and Marmotte and our favourites of the day.

Great Video Al, which run is that ?
We are heading out to Les Gets next week and my wife likes the look of the run on your video when we venture towards Morzine she fancies trying it.

Hairy Boy, go up Super Morzine - it's up there - you will need a Portes Du Soleil Pass.
Snow is nice. it is nice in town. I am being forced to ski next week as the "familia" arrive.

Just back from a week in a very very cold PDS but some great skiing and plenty of miles covered. Some popular runs are very hard and with all the beginners crawling down the pistes the soft stuff has been scraped away. Had a few very cold moments on some of the lifts in the wind but mits and 2 other under gloves saved the day although face got cold at times. Face had a good exfolliation on a few occasions. Best skiing was Wednesday (Les Gets perfect) & Thursday 50 km covered on the anti-clock circuit.

Tropical -17 today, definite improvement over previous days with the cold Bis wind! Alas my two young clients of 6 and 8 yrs felt the need for many chocolate stops and seemed to know all the places with roaring fireplaces.... fantastic guides in the making! Hopefully they can lead their teacher to a few more cosy pit stops tomorrow
Now now girls, I was referring to both and if I ski the area again I think I would stay in Les Gets

Your fault because you told us about Billy, who took my missus for a lesson and gave us back a different one!
Your fault because I then met Simon who condemed my skis due to a disatrous service in Les Gets and let me borrow the Alpha 1's....
