dazman, Colleague over in Kitz, said the snow is great, similar to here - got up there early for a few this morning and the pistes were perfect, groomed well and snow was great.

The weather returned to blue, cloudless skies today and we skied Kirchberg/Kitzbühel. Started at Fleckalmbahn and then were on the Maierl before moving over to the Pengelstein in the afternoon. Pistes in good condition, mostly hard to start with but softening in the sun till there was sugary stuff lower down later on. Here is a view over to the Steinbergkogel taken from the Ehrenbachhohe, near the top of the Fleckalmbahn ...

Snow holding up well in Zell am See despite spring like conditions in the valley. Snow still very good above 1400 metres with all below heavy in the afternoon.

Been here for 12 days. Pistes lower down deteriorated quickly over the last two days but this arvo light snow (>1cm) came in. Just one week ago we were in untracked thigh deep powder just off the pistes on the upper glacier. Magic.
Off piste looks to be tracked out today.
All in all pistes are in OK condition considering the lack of snow. Just get on those early gondolas and it's all yours for the best part of 90mins!

Well we are in maria alm this week and the slopes are in fantastic condition, it's been mainly hot sunshine apart from today which was mostly cloudy with the sun trying to make an appearance! For anyone heading this way next week you are in for a great time! Light snow forecast for the weekend and although it's warm the skiing is great! I have discovered jägermeister and night sledging!! Woohoo!!

Anyone coming out to Skiamade, don´t be lulled into a false sense of security, its still pretty cold although the sun is shining! next week the temps are forecast to drop again around the -10 to -16 mark. I was out all day yesterday on Wagrain and it was freezing, saw a lot of people looking decidedly uncomfortable in just soft shells.
seany1, Maria Alm is just about one of the best places in Salzburg to ski, ENJOY!!!

Today started dull and cold. We drove to Jochberg (by Kitzbühel) but soon moved on from there via the 3S lift to the Pengelstein area. The wind wasn't so chilly on that side. The pistes remained very hard-packed for most of the day, with frozen patches every now and again. However, we enjoyed the Pengelstein and skied on the Hochsaukaser before returning to Jochberg. The day finished fine with the sun appearing around three o'clock. The photo below is of the piste down to the Pengelstein I gondola (piste 31); across the valley is the KiWest piste in the Westendorf area, again just a stip of snow lower down but plenty of folk were skiing on it.

Yipee, we can check-in online tomorrow...4 weeks to go and we'll be in Obertuaern. Our son has just started his ski holiday in Slovinia, he's never been there before but a friend of a friend has a chalet for rent in a small resort, and it was going cheap. He texted to say "it's powder all the way and brilliant sunshine". It seems there were snow-storms there last week so conditions are now perfect, none of which was showing on any weather sites I checked

seany1, you will love it here! Fantastic last day today really warm and sunny I think it is forecast to get much colder next week with more snow on it's way, so enjoy!
My friend and I went for a walk in the mountain this afternoon but missed the last lift down, so we hitched a lift on a piste basher oh what fun! I have never laughed so much, have a fab time

feefee, Thank you very much great to hear the snow is holding well despite warmish temps.....it does look as though it will cool a fair bit from sunday so snow should stay pretty good...bergfex are somewhat optomistic for a dusting sunday, however i think it's unlikely?? A fair chance of ending the week with some fresh tho? Really glad you had a good time, and your first hand updates have really set the mood! have a safe trip home......all the best sean

We drove round to Hinterglemm today, parking under the Reiterkogel lift (€9 for 6 hours). Phew, it was hot. However, the pistes stayed in great condition, soft later but never really slushy. We skied the Reiterkogel and the Hochalm till lunch, then moved over to the Zwölferkogel side. Here's a view of the Zwölferkogel from the Hochalm, showing the Zwölferkogel-Nordabfahrt (which we didn't ski down) ...
The weather forecast on Austrian television does forecast some snow in Tyrol for Sunday.

I skied Großglockner Resort Kals/Matrei in Osttirol today.
Pistes in very good condition, perfect blue skies, very few people skiing.
Skiing was better on the Kals (eastern facing) side, several uninterrupted long runs and no hard-packed snow or ice.
The run right down into Kals village was open, though becoming a bit slushy in the afternoon, and just a strip of snow on the hillside for the final stretch.
Some people were doing some off-piste skiing and it looked reasonable but already covered in tracks and I did very little myself.

We went back to the Hohe Salve range today but this time to the east end. Starting in Going, we spent a while enjoying the pistes there on both sides of the ridge; conditions were very good. The photo below shows the view to the Wilder Kaiser mountains from the blue piste down to Going (100b) with the Hollenauer-Kreuz hut in the foreground.
Eventually we skied on via Ellmau and lunched at the Kummereralm hut (33), which I would recommend. By this time the snow, at least on the south-facing slopes was pretty soft and heavy, harder work. With more blue sky and sun it was again very warm, I saw 8°C recorded at the Osthang lift. One thing that surprised me was how few skiers were on the slopes on what I thought would be one of the busiest weekends of the year.
We returned via the Brandstadl above Scheffau and then took the "low road" back to Going, using the T-bars (84, 81) on the beginners' slopes of the Marcherfeld. They were still in good condition, though softening. I haven't gone this way often, usually rather taking the direct return to Going via the track/piste 100d. Though the low route avoids the final steep descent into Going by the Astberg chairlift, there are still 2 or 3 moderately steep sections that have to be mastered.
P.S. The snow promised for the weekend seems to have evaporated from today's forecast, which shows high temperatures for all of next week. Should be pleasant but it does look very springlike around here.

Mühlbach am Hochkönig - Hi all a quick update on conditions in the HKR at the moment. All (considering the temps outside and the fact we have not had snow for a while now) is in decent shape. The pistes are firm first thing and softer in the afternoon sun, but due to the lack of traffic here and the great job the pisters are doing, the slopes are really very good fun to ski and lunch in the sunshine is never a bad thing! (the N/NE facing slopes are holding up very well indeed!) hopefully off for a blast tomorrow so will do a decent report then. www.hauswasserbauer.com

The forecasts for Obertauern seem to be contradicting each other and changing on an hourly basis. One minute its going to be +9, then its -5 and snowing, then -0 and raining all in the same week on the same days!

For the last day of my friend's visit we went back to the Kirchberg/Kitzbühel area. Starting from the Fleckalmbahn, we skied the Maierl and Pengelstein pistes. As before the runs were hard at first but softened later. The weather started hot and sunny again. However, by mid-afternoon there was a chilly wind blowing and the sun was hidden by a haze. Here's a view of the Steinbergkogel with the top section of the Direttissima piste (38 ) in the middle ...

sharon1953, it´s cold up there, believe me, just got back from a ski tour where I usually sweat buckets(sorry) but I was freezing. Forecast for today said -16 at 2300 m, don´t think it was quite that cold up there but still , and I can´t imagine its going to snow anytime in the next 5 days or so.......sharpen those edges
Drop me a pm if you fancy a ski with me I am only about 20 mins away!

heidiky, Heading for Kitzbuhel this weekend (are you joining us for the St Patricks celebrations???)....should I be concerned???, I had ten days of sunshine in St Anton 3 weeks ago...I'd kinda like some sort of a holiday that resembles winter.
Any sign of that f**king hot spell subsiding or has Summer arrived early????
