snoozeboy, Not sure of the rules but saw loads of the little ones going through or even under gates with adults last week around Morzine, Les Gets. Have never seen this before. Just seemed to be accepted.

They don't give ski passes to 5 and unders (who ski for free), so under gate climbing is the norm.

Interesting. Looks like a good deal but its not really a "free" kids pass as the published rate for an adult 6 day PDS pass is E225 not E265!

Pamski, doesn't say so on that page so I suppose it's worth asking the tourist office directly. Mine are still under 5 so I don't personally know

MeMyselfandI,
What it says is: 7 nights in apartment in a 1 or 2-room apartment** for 2 adults and 2 children -12 years old + 2 ski-passes adult and 2 ski-passes children (free) 6 days Portes du Soleil
and if you click on the Book Online bit it takes you to an accommodation search.
Never works for us if we have family staying as we have our own chalet.

MeMyselfandI, thanks, but I think it is an accommodation and lift pass bundled offer from the tourist office as pamski says as if you click the link through it takes you to an accommodation search page
However, for someone who has not got accommodation already it could be a good deal.

dennisp, will oblige then - we went up on the chair from Prodains this morning, first time that we had been down there to see progress on the new lift station. The roof is still only partially completed, bare wood, bits of tarpaulin type covering, all sorts of 'stuff' lying around - but the lights were on inside, it was about 9.15 and we did see someone with a hard hat on so maybe the work is continuing and it will eventually be done.
Page 7? my laptop says it is page 21.

there's loads of stuff going on in the summer - let's have some pretty pictures of meadows, cows and alpine chalets! and mountain bikers, walkers and picnickers. And marmottes and flowers. The Alps are just as good in summer.

Loving the start to the final week if the season in LG. Empty slopes yet loads of snow (if crappy weather).
Supposed to be more snow over the next couple if days so I'll need to wrap up and enjoy spending the mornings pootling around by myself.
Have just looked out the window and its snowing reasonably heavily now. Quite glad I have no afternoon childcare so be relaxing inside guilt free.

sanman, ah, sorry for my misunderstanding.
Tipping down with snow now in LG.
and so far we haven't seen a single marmotte - by this time of year we have usually spotted a few little heads sticking out of the snow and occasionally a family emerging.
Empty slopes - yes - it was very quiet up in Avoriaz this morning, really only came across more people when we went down to Lindarets to escape the bitterly cold winds. April is more like January this year - and January, ah January, we had lovely sunshine then.

Thanks for all the advice, we had a fabulous ten days with every type of weather the Alps could throw at us! Mont Chery one day had flakes the size of tea plates, but we still came home with tanned faces.
Delicious lunches at the Paika, Nannon, Cremallarie, Rosset'az, and the best spot for hot choc was Blatton over by Plain Dranse - wow, it's beautiful over there!
And the skiing - well, we had some amazing days on fresh powder, but other days were really wet and the snow turned to granulated sugar before our eyes. So pretty to still have snow on the trees in April. 10 and 7 year old boys loved The Stash and the Linga in particular, but also the Arbis and the Tulipe were great fun. Also, quite quiet at times, apart from the ususal bottlenecks in Avoriaz.
We went to Aquariaz on one afternoon that we were rained off - fab for a family, particularly the half pipe, which only our ten year old braved. The Prodains lift had the cars on doing testing whilst we were there, so should be open soon. The Pleney is about to close and be replaced with something new and shiny!! Also there's talk about a new link from Morzine straight up to Avoriaz - though I can't see how nor where.
Back in Feb 2014 - can't wait.

SOOOO jealous, glad you liked it enough to want to book again already! I know the feeling! I just wish the weather was a little more guaranteed so you dont have to pot luck your chances on the week. Still trying to decide which weeks to go. Might be plumping for Christmas, and 3rd week of March 2014

Feb will be our 4th time!! We've never booked before we came home though, so the weather can't have put us off too much. It's such a great area for children to learn to ski in and then be confident enough in knowing where they are to ski alone as they get older. Walkie takies might be useful then!

I don't think that will happen in my life time! I see the point of the second lift, only to link the Pleney side to Avoriaz, but considering cost against benefit, I dont think it would ever get through.
Surely a better option would be a link from out of town, or half way up the mountain, for example connecting Nyon to Avoriaz, or Montriond, although downlifting sucks so Montriond would just be a good way to service those from out of town and save the drive to Ardent.

I need to have a proper look at that but it seems to be just a lift up the valley to Prodains?
Trying not be cynical, but apart from the cost, I can't help but imagine that the queues (using the term loosely) for the new lift on Spring mornings will make Ellis Island look like an Orkney bus queue by comparison, and it seems to be right in the "old town" part of Morzine as well, with really poor bus and car access. I tend to agree with dennisp, there are better places for it to start, and indeed finish.

I think a bit of sensationalist journalism from mymorzine there, that video presentation is a good few years old, dating from the time of the Olympic bid. At that time the IOC were insisting on a lift connection from Morzine to Avoriaz if we were to stage any of the alpine events. Had the bid been successful the obscene amounts of public money lavished on the olympics would have paid for it.
Back in the post-bid-failure real world it is probably not the best solution; although given that the whole Derèche area from the swimming pools up to the mairie is slated to be razed and redeveloped anyway (including lots of parking accessed by a new road-tunnel from the Pleney roundabout), and that there would be no need to build a top-station (since what would become the mid-station in Prodains already exists) I could see it being pushed through. Not because it makes the most sense (a super-gondola from Montriond to the top of Avoriaz would be better for most visitors and residents), but because the commercants of Morzine would want all those lovely punters to have to drive into town and park near the shops bars and restaurants. I'm verging towards never-say-never...

Shep,
I know this is the old video, but I was under the impression that the dust had been blown off and the "concept" resurrected? Seemed to be timed to coincide with the actual completion and opening of the new Prodains gondola.

The Pleney bubble closure this summer is concerning the MTBers (not read the rest of the thread, so may have been discussed already). Needed doing.
Agree to keep the thread alive and maybe start a new one for next season.
Shame I can't get out there again on the bike this year

dennisp, its been a brilliant weekend all told, after the rather grim weather at the end of the week. We have just got in from skiing from 9 to 12.30 just in Les Gets and Morzine and it was all terrific. Various lifts (and bars/cafes) and pistes are closed but it could not have been a better day to finish with clear blue skies and great sunshine.
I assume the the Prodains Avoriaz bubble must have been being tested summer, ? Certainly the bottom station looked far from being finished early last week.
The Plenay gondola was not running up from Morzine today - it looked as if people were being brought up on the hotel one.

pamski, according to summer, and also the snow report on Morznet, the new prodains bubble did indeed open for business on Saturday. I believe as you say exterior finish is still to be completed, but the core essentials of the lift have been finished and now being utilised. Guessing they will complete it in nicer weather!
Wish we were there, but plans are to come over in July, and then the first week of the season/XMas week. Fingers crossed that the snow is good at that time!

Was certainly stunning out there today. I decided to get some exercise and took the pedestrian path to the top of one of our local mountains with a beaufort sandwich and an apple. The place was full of walkers, picknickers and people just lolling around in the sun and for the second day running the sky was full of paragliders - there was a big competition here this weekend.
I was walking in light walking trousers and a short sleeve T shirt, and was too hot!
When I was sitting on the bench at the top there was a small family group of skiers waiting, it transpired, for others to come up on the chairlift - not one which normally permits foot passengers, but I think these were locals. They bought a typical French picnic - a pile of baguettes, home-made apple juice and apple and cherry juice, cheese, a big box of radishes all prepared. they greeted me in a very friendly fashion with "the peace is shattered now, we've arrived" but I was about ready to go, anyway. The French do love their picnics. This suddenly glorious weather has brought all those checked table cloths out of winter hibernation.

pam w, and I have just had to retreat from the sun out on the terrace for a bit - I was sizzling away!
Masses of walkers around LG too, picnics - hasn't been warm enough until now. And the French seem to have reclaimed their mountain - ours were about the only English voices that we heard. The lifties finally had their chairs outside the huts and they were all in such a jolly mood today. So much better to finish on a note like this than on a rainy day, or with pistes all bare and brown.
