daveqpr, The Hochfuegen website says that the road up there is clear of snow. I didn't go up today so can't say for sure but they usually only say it's clear when it really is.
If you're worried about the road being snowy, as rogg, says, go by bus. There is a bus every 15 minutes from Fuegen and it's free with the lift pass.
Alternatively, you could park in Kaltenbach and ski over to Hochfuegen. Up the gondola from the village, ski down Blue 14 to the Sonnenjet, up the Sonnenjet, ski down Blue 12 to Wedelexpress, up the Wedelexpress, ski down Red 1, 2 or 3 and you're there.

Superb day at hochfugen today. Perfect blue ski, no wind, -13 in the car park. The snow was squeaky smooth on piste and knee deep off. Had an amazing day, best of the holiday so far.
The whole area around here is great and the lift pass allows you to go to so many different areas, so we are making the most if it. Want to go to the glacier tomorrow so hopefully it will be another bluebird day (please!!!)
So far we have skied most of mayrhofen, most of hochfugen, a good part of Gerlos and night skiing in reith Im alpbachtel.
Still have plans for zell am ziller, hintertux and the kaltenbach side of hochzilleratel, the whole area is a great place to ski

Mattmulkeen,
Nice to hear about the snow in Scheffau. we are off there on saturday. Apart from the skiing, is there anything else to do there. How easy is it to get to Soll (apart from skiiing over)

Skied today from Söll to Scheffau and back. Great weather, blue skies and sun but chilly. Quite busy but lift queues not bad. Pistes pretty good mostly but hard in some places.
Probably the easiest way to get from Scheffau to Söll is by taxi; it's not far. There are busses but not that many.

Skied over the Ki-West gondola to Westerdorf today. Tremendous day! Very cold at times buy not that busy. Going to do same tomorrow but head down to Brixen and over to Soll as weather is forecast to be superb again.

Skied Mühlbach and Dienten today, slopes in great condition with the odd firm patch, but in general, life is good! Would suggest for those coming out next week that you get your edges done, wax it up and life will be tip top. Sun forecast for the next few days with a front moving in on Monday / Tuesday. www.hauswasserbauer.com

kevducky,
First time in Scheffau and I (we) love it. Pistes are tip top at the moment. Ski shop under the alpin is awesome (ask for a pair of "pistey" skis off the english fella in the shop!). Taxi to soll cost us 16E. Went night skiing last night - its class! They also do sledging down in Soll till 3am in the morning. Are you with your family? What hotel are you in?
After 4 years of France - definately glad to be back in Austria!

We skied today on the Steinplatte (near Waidring in the Tyrol). Fantastic weather, well suited for when you're skiing on a coral reef (which I'm told the Steinplatte is). Good pistes, though much less snow than usually at this time of year. Here's a photo looking up to the Plattenkogel from the top of the Kammerkör chairlift ...

Mattmulkeen,
Great to hear. We are in Apartments Scheffauer Hof which is about 2 km outside Scheffau nearer the Gondola. We realise that the nightlife is dead there. I am going with wife and 21 year old son.
Now a silly question, but are there any places that show Englisg footie. I miss 3 mancity games whilst I am away

Today we skied from Leogang over to Saalbach and back again. Pistes are mostly hard although sometimes you can find softer bits. Not too busy. Weather was mixed, sun and clouds. Here's a photo from the north side of the Glemmtal, looking over Saalbach to the Schattberg and, further right, the Zwölferkogel above Hinterglemm ...

Skied Bad Gastein yesterday afternoon and piste on the angertal side pretty good. Not much to play with off piste though so can concur that if in amade area get those edges sharpened. Perfect blue sky this morning, yesterdays clouds have dissapeared.

I skied Hochzillertal/Hochfügen today.
All the slopes were open. There were no icy patches on slopes, no slush, no chopped up slopes, including the two runs right down to village level in the valley which were both open. Pretty good overall.
There were a few spots to do some off-piste skiing but a lot of it was hard under about 5-10cm of recent snow.
Perfect weather too: about 0 degrees and blue skies.

I skied there too today. Perfect conditions with lovely blue sky. Had a great lunch in kristallhut. Conditions where 100% better than yesterdays zero visibility. Hochzillteral is a great resort with some lovely pistes and great views. Unfortunately won't be there tomorrow as am now posting this from a motorway hotel near ulm, before we complete our journey home tomorrow

Another great day today, this time in Westendorf. Pistes in perfect condition with less icy patches than in Saalbach. KiWest piste was very enjoyable. Weather fantastic, though quite warm (about 5°C around noon).
Looking across to the Hohe Salve range, the south-facing slopes are very green lower down. However, the run down to Brixen (1b) -the white strip winding its way down about the middle of this photo- is holding out and people were skiing down. Seems like spring.

Snow starting to fall today in bad gastein. Very light though so i'm not about to get the wide skis out of the locker just yet. Need plenty more before I can do that round here. Will just have to be content with fast skiing on piste which is in great condition.

In St. Johann in Tirol today, with weather completely different from yesterday. Snowed until early afternoon, light and wet, a few centimetres on the lower slopes. Conditions weren't that bad and the pistes certainly need more snow. We just skied the Eichenhof T-bars and there were frozen patches under the new snow there. But visibility wasn't great (while we persevered), so we stopped after a good lunch at the Grander Schupf, shown below ...

Mühlbach am Hochkönig : Skied up in Arthurhaus this morning with light snowfall. Pistes in great condition and will be in even better condition tomorrow. Would also be interested in hearing about conditions in saalbach. Considering a couple of days there next week to relive my 10 day trip from about 5 years ago. Great snow back then but what I remember best was a 8km toboggen right down to the main road. We overshot the end point by about 5 km (along an iced up road).

Saalbach skiing was fine this week, as I reported above. Snow wasn't the best but good enough and there should have been a little more today and maybe some on Monday. Rest of the week forecast to be warm again Was your toboggan run down from the Spielberghaus?

espri, heidiky, we will be in Ellmau on wednesday next the 9th. It's all looking a bit warm and green on the webcams and the forecasts aren't much better - is it actually that bad? And any signs of it getting any colder? Any sign of more snow?

Schladming last Sunday was fine. Despite no snow for 8 weeks apart from a very few cm a week earlier, conditions were really quite good on all pistes. This despite 2 lots of rain over this 8 week period. It's a credit to extensive snow-making and diligent, careful and skilled grooming. Then on Mon and Tue we got almost 10cm total. Enough to produce very good conditions on all pistes on all 4 mountains for the rest of our stay.

1b was closed/roped off at the top when we went to go down there on last Saturday.
The whole Westendorf side of the mountain was very green/brown indeed, except for the white lines that were the pistes meandering down. Credit to them for keeping them so well groomed. It was lovely skiing!

Got back last night.
There had been no new snow for quite a while untill last week, last week there were several falls mainly at altitude.
Generally speaking the upper slopes remained in good condition both on and off piste. The exception being higher west facing bits which were a bit wind scoured (The lee slopes benefitted though). On the lower slopes the pistes were generally good in the morning thanks to the extensive snow making, though as the day progressed hard and frequently icy patches appeared. Off piste at lower levels and on the lower ski routes there was inadequate coverage.
We had a great time and found excellent skiing throughout the week. If you are unable to ski at altitude due to weather what remains is a bit more limited than in average years, but if the higher skiing is available there is plenty of great sking there at the moment.

We skied in Fieberbrunn today. The pistes were in pretty well perfect condition early on but became softer and a little heavier in places as the day progressed, e.g. on the Reckmoos Süd run. However, all in all excellent. The weather started a little chilly and misty, as in this photo of the Maiskopf T-bar from the Doischberg, but there were sunny spells which were quite warm later on.
The photo of the Brixental from Westendorf that I posted earlier shows a typical spring situation. The south-facing slopes soon lose their snow. The pistes higher up in the SkiWelt and on the north side, Söll, Scheffau, etc., are all fine. The trouble is, spring has come early this year. The local weather forecast this evening said that this has been the driest February in 29 years. But 29 years isn't really all that long, so I suppose there's nothing so unusual. The forecaster also said that it won't really be spring until the battle of the air masses is finished and the arctic air is pushed finally up north. I have still assumed that a bigger dump of snow will come sometime in March but we'll just have to wait and see. The more immediate forecast is for warm days all this week, ca. 11°C. Should be good skiing
