snowangel., How awful - I'm really sorry to hear about Liam's accident. The poor boy, is really accident prone isn't he? I didn't enjoy my stay in Hospital Nord, but they did look after me well, and it is the best place for him to be. Echo what Jules says about things to pass the time with. If I can do anything to help just let me know.

Teach him to ski? *

carled, no offence taken, he can ski, he was offered a place at the maison jeunesse to be a ski insructor but turned it down as he's just not a skier he's snowboarder!
Thanks again for kind words everyone, going back up to see him this afternoon.

snowangel., It may be the nature of the injury rather than a communication problem. Maybe no one can know! I've come to the conclusion that the general answer of, " see how you feel" to any question you ask about when can I work, play squash, ski, trampoline on a canvas supported by four rogue elephants; is the only one they can give because everyone recovers at different rates. I was told that my collar should stay on for 6 to 12 weeks; when I saw Uk neurosurgery, they said to take it off if it felt ok, so I did!
Like me, it sounds as if he will make sure he gets better as quickly as possible. The French nurses do not muck about. The day after my operation they told me no more bed baths I had to get up and walk. Same treatment for Liam by the sounds of things.

JulesB, yes Jules you are totally right. they told him this morning he had to do stuff for himself. So he got himself out of bed, dressed arranged his room, went to the loo walked down the hall and demanded to know when he was going home! He just wants out of the place.
On my way to see him now, hopefully i'll be following the ambulance home tomorrow with him.

You're gonna have the same issues that me & my group have chap. Overnight Sunday and up to Weds morning is going to be crap vis, snow high up/sleet & rain low down. Then maybe a day or two off, then back to snow to lower levels on Thursday-Saturday.
Ah well. Beats the week just ending. No fresh snow and silly warm temps (going to get VERY warm this Saturday then get cooler on Sunday...)

snowangel., you at the Chantemerle office on Sunday? If so I'll try and make sure we come in there to buy tickets instead of piddling about in Villeneuve. Don't know where the skiers are getting their gear from yet!
Oh, some people in the group want to know if they can pay by credit card and some by Visa debit (with "Link" on the back)? You should be the lady in the know!
Oh and where is the ticket office in Chantemerle please? Bottom of the downhill course area?

See my "snow order" is arriving a couple of days earlier than planned this week..........but sure there will be others!
What's interesting about the snow this week is that it emanates from an Atlantic depression. I run a weather site here in the UK for Wind & kitesurfers and manage to get out when ever conditions are good, this year has been pants. Feb was the first month in ages where we did not get out on the water and Jan was not much better. You would usually expect quite a few depressions to track across in the first couple of months of the year. So hopefully this week will be the first of many - think of the phrase "April Showers", that's based on the spring equinox, when we expect a series of Atlantic depressions and as long as the jet stream is playing ball and or there is not an area of stuborn high pressure over mainland Europe these depressions often run across Europe resulting in snow, though often rain at resort level but snow higher up!
http://seaspritesports.com/weather60.php#map have a look at this chart and also others and you'll see what I mean!
Think I have to come to the lift office at Chantemerle where our passes are so will try and look you up Snowangel

Hi all. Well pretty much as expected for Sunday but unexpected sunshine on Monday morning. Went to montgenevre today and had pretty empty slopes and wall to wall blue sky and sunshine. Fantastic day. Hey. Guess what? I only went and bought a helmet! Found a great rossignol one that fitted perfectly, so went for it. Feels great, I have to admit. New snowboard is perfection. Snow due tomorrow evening. Fingers crossed!

Getting stuff ready for the van - three female snow boards, my three (197 Swallow Tail, 167 Shogun and some big Burton), three pairs of skis and how many pairs of boots.........................just seen that we have to pay 0.75 Euro tourist tax per night per person, when we collect our keys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't think we'll be telling them about all the various people coming out during the 5 weeks we'll be out!
Forecast looking good, all the rain we had last night is on the way over to you and snow for back end next week currently, as per my post above looks like we have some more Atlnatic depressions tracking across next week!

up at grand alpe right now. Overcast but half a foot of powder on piste and blown to knee deep in places. A little heavy, it's not champagne powder but it's still good fun to play in! Had a look for snowangel in ticket booths this morning but no sign!

carled, you would come on my one and only day off! See it snowed last night in honour of my birthday celebrations (even though it was my birthday last month!) Fantastic night out, got in bed at 6.30 got up the mountain for 12 and still got some absolutely awesome lines. I do love powder! Superb trees this afternoon, still very busy on piste hence we tried to avoid it as much as possible. managed to ride all the way down to chantemerle off piste, not to sticky but cruddy underneath down low. The decents from the lifts were super icy but the few pistes we did were ok!
Wore a soft back protector today, was comfey and luckily didn't need it. Saw a nasty accident on the prorel, lady with definate back or neck injuries but in obvious pain, needed airlifting. It really brought everything back to me, even though i didnt see liam when he done it, still really upset me.
anyway so nice to ride again after a 5 week absence

Snowangel, we were in the same area then. We saw the lady on the prorel red (in purple trousers) being attended to. Saw the helicopter in the area but we were off in an off piste gully to the left of myrtilles by then. Sadly our party had a casualty too (on the blue run down to prorel) and when her ski stopped suddenly in accumulated heavy snow, she twisted and fell, snapping tib and fib. She's now in briancon hospital awaiting operation. She won't be coming home until next week.

chris, Excellent news. We are arriving tomorrow...leave us some powder snowangel.,
And of course, now that I have looked at the other threads and got over the hysteria of all the powdery pics, not such good news for those who got injured.
I am soo happy though. Good bye Blighty, hello snowy Serre Che.

carled, Oh poor girl. hope she recovers quick. Yes lady in purple trousers, was a very somber journey up the chair after that. Did you do the gully to the left of that piste? One of my favourite tree runs that. We did it from the other end just before, was hardly a track to be seen. awesome.
Anyway today was a day of shite! Nothing open this morning, well i say nothing, it was so bad they stopped listing what was closed and listed what was open for us instead! I hate windy days. I didn't even let my daughter go up today as there would have been too many people on the limeted pistes that were open.
Wind dropping tomorrow. Last weekend at work
