There's about 20 - 25cm that has fallen on our balcony ledge, that'll do.

Looks like between 15 and 20 cms on our balcony in Les Gets - 1200m - and it has been snowing again for the last ten minutes. Power went for a bit at about 6.45 - lights cutting out again here and BBC breakfast has cut out as there must be a bit of a snow blockage on the dish. Mt Chery coming and going through the clouds.
The school run is going a little more slowly up the road today - I don't think they have ever heard of car sharing - or rather picking up other kids - as each car usually has the one in it going to school - and coming back downhill the driver's window is usually open and the ciggie is already alight.

This was on Twitter from Les Gets at 7:08pm tonight... "Snow is here and going to snow through the night" but you can't believe everything you read on the internet!
Can anyone confirm?

Its the same over here as well unfortunately, 50-100 cars jamming the street and abandoned all over the place for 20 minutes every day.

Pamski, So you spotted me then
20-30cm at my place which is about 1200m, same at the school. The kids have their ski scolaire this week (they spend 2 mornings a week for 3 weeks skiing with school) so my boys will have a morning on the powder, lucky beasts!

Can anybody explain why the piste map says under Torgon "1100-2300m"? It seems to me it only goes to 2000m tops?
Looking forward to some pics from today....!!
Any recommendations for out-of-the-way mountain huts for some Vin Chaud/Food? Prefer the smaller/quieter authentic vibe. Getting too excited, checking this thread every 5 mins

that is brilliant - they so out on all sorts, downhill, cross country, snow shoes, snowboards etc? Is it run by ESF as something they are just required to do by the commune?
Brilliant day out today at the Roc d'Enfer - the sun came out, clear blue skies and apparently it was the first day that the new teleski du lac was open so no longer necessary to go on the long road bit back to the village, hike through back gardens back to the gondola. A very gentle poma, but the bit back then to the red back to the bottom of the gondola could be described as a bit iffy today - I certainly really took the speed off the second time along it as rutted by skidoos, certainly need to get the snowblowers on it if it gets cold enough but a nice new venture there.
Sadly the Tavillon (sp?) on the way round was closed although it said Ouvert and had been a couple of weeks ago - but we had a good lunch at the Torchon up above it.

clong, I think they just use village height and the highest point in the PDS and some poetic licence.
Not really out of the way but here goes for a couple of suggestions:
Come out of the gondola station at Linga and head down the blue run past a restaurant. Over on the right you will see another small place near the drag lift called "La Leiche" - nice spot with a big open hearth with seating all round.
If you get over to La Chapelle the restauarnt at the top of the Braitaz chair has a nice bar and superb cakes. There is also a pleasant spot on the road between the La Chapelle gondola and the bottom of the two chairs.
On the Swiss side there is a good spot overlooking the Pauvre Conche chair and the twin Ripaille drag lifts. You can reach it by taking the 8 man chair from Les Crosets, then head back down to the left of the snow park spot the restaurant on the left of the piste and turn left just after it where the drag l;ift arrives. Down that short run to the restaurant.
If you go up the Ripaille drag lifts and head down the long run to Grand Paradis there are a couple of places (Lapisa and another). Easy skiing all the way to the bottom of the Planachaux chairs but a really pretty remote valley.
Can't help much on the Les Gets/Morzine side - we don't get over there much.

Is the "ski scolaire" timing the same in other areas? I was XC skiing this morning (a genteel pootle round a 7 km circuit without too many ups and downs, only about 100m in all) and saw a couple of groups of kids on XC skis, having a ball, knocking each other over like skittles. It was nice to see.

Another very good day on the mountain today. The Linga area of Chatel was excellent this morning where there was more than 25cm of fresh snow at about 1800m - photo below.

Chatel Snow, Nice shot. I can see our apartment on that one! Certainly looks like the off piste route from the Barbossine midstation to Petit Chatel across the fields will be skiable now.

Thanks DJL. Is the Pauvre Conche restaurant marked as so on the piste map? Just trying to figure out which one you mean.
Have you been to La Bourri (https://www.facebook.com/labourri)? Looks interesting.
The one with the open fire sounds amazing!
Wow, that photo is truly stunning Chatel Snow, conditions look great.

Bit heavy though - snow was sticky and wet below 1600 or 1700m today. Mild weekend ahead but chance of more snow sun night - Monday.

dennisp, Can't show you the way as we leave on 15 March but you can't miss it. Take the Chaux Fleurie lift from Lindarets, head left along the ridge past the "good skiers only" sign as though you are heading for the Rhododendrons piste and when the piste heads right go straight ahead up the ridge for 50 yards. Turn left and pick your line down to join the left hand bend on the blue run down into Lindarets. It's not too steep nor over skied and just good fun with a bit of tree dodging.

Found some snow chains in the attic- they are too big really but I think I can get them tight enough, will that suffice? (Just tried on the spare wheel)
Forget the breathalyser then

I loved my day at Mont Chery when staying in Les Gets a couple of years ago. The black that runs under the chair lift off the right side was great fun!
Cracking pizza and Peroni from the halfway hut too!

Where would people recommend to ski in the Portes du Soleil during the busy half-term? Mont Chery sounds really good. Based in Les Gets 28 days today!

Dabber, probably the Big Foot bar, used to the Dublin Inn just opposite the bottom of Mt Chery gondola; otherwise Bar Bush may have it on.
