Thanks to everyone (well almost everyone ) for the support. We got the keys on Wednesday thanks to Mosha Marc's sterling legal work. It’s taken a couple of months longer to finalise than originally planned (don’t get me started on banks/building societies) but Deb & I have finally taken the plunge & we now have our very own Piste Office. It is a great name isn't it - although it was actually Deb's work not mine.
As many of you are aware we have been operating an online ski maintenance products business from our home & a ski tuning/servicing business from our garage workshop for the past few years & it has been growing very nicely, thanks in part to the superb support from snowHead members. Whilst all this has been going on I’ve had a ‘proper job’ during the week. Well it’s now got the stage were we cannot continue on the same basis any longer due to lack of home space, lack of garage/workshop space & me working two jobs. Luckily we haven’t pi$$ed the neighbours off too much & as half of them ski & need their kit looking after so they can’t really complain
At 51 (hard to believe I know ), I’m now working on an exit strategy from my proper job over the next year or two to work full time on the ski stuff. We also wanted local ‘walk to’ premises so that my commuting days & 30k miles per annum would be well & truly over. The old local Post Office has been on the market for over two years & we’ve been watching the price come slowly down until it reached what we thought would be viable price on which to take a punt. Unfortunately it comes attached to a decent sized piece of residential accommodation which we need to ditch to leave the shop space for the business, & it’s in the purchase, conversion & sale/rental of the residential part of the property were the financial risk lies - but hopefully we’ve bought at the bottom(ish) of the market. And being in the fit-out trade I’m well aware of what’s required on the building front.
We’re not opening a ‘conventional’ ski shop par se, which would probably, in fact almost certainly, be a disaster (benzknees is right there ). Instead we’re just going to move our existing business into the Piste Office but the additional space will allow us to greatly increase our capacity. It will also give us the room to add other ski hardware products to our offering. So it’s a definite no to boots & clothing etc but a definite yes to becoming a specialist hardware retailer in addition to growing our existing maintenance, tuning tuition, bindings, Quiver Killer & WhiteDot offerings. Initially we will continue to be a ‘by appointment only’ trader but the A1 retail classification of the building will allow us to be a 'true' shop part time & then full time as I back out of my day job.

Excellent news! I was just going to send my new skis to you for Quiver Killers and Barons in a few weeks but a day trip out there to see the new place may be worth.

spyderjon, Excellent, best of luck to you and Deb with the venture. Is parking any better in the village than at your house? (I do find it hard to believe you are 51, BTW)

Jon, following our chat about bindings the other day I spotted this thread. Fantastic news & I'm delighted that we'll have an expanded service available in Nottingham - truly the ski tuning capital of the world!
All the best and I can promise you our support.

Congrats and, imho, you're doing it the right way. These days a retail outfit serves to enhance an online offering, rather than a suffering retail outlet grasping at some online presence to drum up trade.

This is good news indeed!
The snow industry can only benefit from someone with your dedication and integrity joining it full time
Now, when will you be opening a branch in North London? Camden Town Post Office does a rubbish hot wax at the moment: may as well be using reblochon.
