Megamum, ok yes I see what you meant now from your requoted post, I had read your later post differently to mean that you thought the tint did make a difference to the UV protection.
Yes it's true that a clear lens can have 100% UV protection, no problem with that at all.

Slowphil and volklattivaS5
Slowphil
Could you let me know what prices your finding for Dragon rogues and possible sites etc.
I was riding with Dragon Maces and also Dx ,I preferred the cheaper Dx in the end for some reason?
I have few pairs of rogues to try next season though!
VolklattivaS5,
You sound like you know about Goggles/Lens etc maybe you can help or anyone really if poss.
I have a few pairs of Dragons but could never be bothered with all the lens name types and waffle, so just put the amber lens in, for off piste.
My probs are off piste Definition/Contrast of terrain in flat light, ie. bumps, mounds,(drops, ie places I don,t want, can,t see)
This is usually very cold Dec/jan Glacier riding, so alot of Flat or blue light days (I think its called blue) and wind too?
I had Ice probs inside many times too but now carry, a spare pair for that, as it just kept repeating, but thats not really the flat light visiblity issue I want to address.
It may be that another brand is better but will stay with Dragon for now,I have a untested yellow lens too?.
I tryed too read up on it a bit but it seems mostly sales waffle and a cartoon picture of a cloud ?.
Do I look for this percentage thing you mention somewhere?
I think the colder months, off piste with alot of flat light, wind and snow, are when I need all the visual help I can get via a different lens.
Warmer months and on piste, better vis would be a great help at speed but not as much, lets say, unkown terrain risk if that makes sense .
Also you can always slow down or take it easy on piste (as in easter) but with fresh snow you tend too, go for it more while you have it. This is resort pow and within shorter hikes/traverses .
I may end up changing brands if thats the best solution but as someone said at the inflated fashion prices I think a bit of tech knowledge would help first, before the expense for that last 15% -20% vis increase.

Tirol 164, I got mine from http://www.boardshop.co.uk/products/gloves-goggles.asp they also have maces in. If i'm interested in a particular goggle then i normally just spend a bit of quality time with google.
The % thing you mention is VLT (Visible Light Transmission) and the higher the % the more light they let in. My rogues were for bright light at 20-25% VLT at the other end of the spectrum is a clear goggle for night skiing at 90%ish
With regards to the lens colour you should be looking for something that will brighen and enhance contrast, normally yellow or rose tints so the spare yellow lens you have will almost certainly be better than amber which is a general use tint. Oakley hi-yellow and Smith sensor mirror lenses both come highly rated.
btw Initial impressions of the Rogues are good, good fit not too big, nice visibility. Seem well made although come with a daft goggle bag that leaves fluff all over the place

Tirol 164, what slowphil said.
Your Dragon Amber lens is described as this on the Dragon website
•Amber Lens 35%-40% Light Transmission
•Best for variable cloudy to bright conditions by adding definition and cutting glare
A more suitable one for the low/flat light conditions you mention would be this one, which by the sounds of it is the spare yellow lens you already have:-
http://www.dragonalliance.com/products/view/dx_replens_yellow
The Yellow lens at 75-80% transmission is about double the transmission of your Amber lens. I have the Smith Sensor Mirror lens for flat light as I've said which I've found to be excellent in such light conditions and that has a transmission of 70%, so I imagine the Dragon Yellow lens will be very similar.
Had you not tried the Yellow lens at all to see what it was like? If not then you can do next season and it will probably be a whole new world in snowy off piste conditions.

Tirol 164,
I have smith and carrera goggles and smith glasses. Have had a few pairs of carrera goggles over the years and a pair of oakley glasses also...
Out of the following http://www.sporteyes.com/smithcolors.htm IIRC I have the following
RC36 -pretty good general purpose
BP15 - great for sunny days
Y68 - were brilliant in Ireland - handy in certain situations
C98 - keep bugs out of eyes cycling
Sensor Mirror - pretty good for low light - a little bit too bright if it gets sunny at all
My carrera are a clearish(slight tint) sensor lens that is better for sunny patches than the smith sensor mirror but not quite so good in low light... brilliant at night

Hey thankyou all, for the informative replys- Ltiger,VolklaS5and SPhil.
I was obviously in the dark all along with a amber lens ,those sites are now sorting me, really very helpful.
Hope others benefit from this info or am I the only one, as everyone else has known for years??
I,m having a Mr Magoo moment now.
I did hit a few rocks too, last season and had mulitple board repairs going on, I possibly could have seen or defined the snow covered rocks, thinking about it, with a yellow lens.
Now I,m feeling all those board repair bills even more?
With a yellow lens in my room?
(Excuse)
I did try and change out the amber lens but thought I was going to snap something, so left it alone, so the yellow lens is still sealed in packet.
Because of Ice inside lens prob,I did,nt want to scratch a new yellow one, as the amber was getting rubbed alot.
My wallet also got rubbed alot for lots board repairs.
I will check out the Smiths Sensor Mirror and the Oakley Hi-yellow lens to enhance contrast but probably run with the dragon dx and yellow lens.
