I used to have some 10 year olds but they got older so now I have a problem.

Stressed Mick, pick up a brochure, all the extras (passes, lessons, ski hire, supplements) are normally listed separately from the basic holiday cost. They won't be able to tell you the cost of the hotel, as they won't know, as the basic price inculdes flights and transfers as well. It isn't too difficult to find out though with a bit of internet reasearch, just cost up the separate elements yourself.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thank you, I see you point now about the ski hire and transfers. Sorry for being a little slow.
But how can any ski company call a lift pass an "option" extra. I though you need one of these to go skiing.

a) you could have a season pass
b) you could be planning on ski-touring or heli-dropping the whole time
c) the tour op might only offer weekly passes, and you intend to do a day in resort then a few other nearby resorts by car
d) you might be a cross country skier who doesn't need a lift pass
e) you might be an absolute beginner in a resort whose beginner lifts are all free
etc.

Thank you for clearing that up in my head. I will need all this information next year when I do my own ""diy" holiday.
Thank you again

Stressed Mick, evidently you need a lift pass. But do you want a child/adult/student/over 60s pass? Are you old/young enough to get a free one? Do you need a full area pass or are you happy with a restricted one? Do you only want five days skiing because you plan to go out with your Granny in Annecy in the middle of the week? Passes come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, with prices to match, and different people want different things.

e) Granny might spend the week loafing around in the hot tub and going for sleigh rides, rather than skiing.

Just liike to add
3pm, 28 Oct 08 - It's snowing in Manchester
So may not need a lift pass after all. I may just ski around my garden if it keeps snowing (but I doubt it)

Not everyone skis on a ski holiday. Not everyone who skis wants the lift pass the TO is selling.
Last season I took my OH and she got a pedestrian pass and used the free beginner lifts for skiing. I got a 7 day pass from the lift office rather than the 6 day one from the TO. I'd be a bit pissed off if they forced you to buy a lift pass as part of the holiday price because you can bet your back bottom they won't discount it the full amount if you don't want it.

And last year in Selva the rep either didn't know or wasn't telling that the week we were there everything was on a buy 5 get one free so booking lift pass and lessons for kids was way cheaper if you ignored the rep on the bus and sorted yourself out. Other British family in our hotel were mightily peeved at the price I had paid.
