Saw a fair bit of ski stuff in Lakeside Thurrock TKMaxx a couple of weeks ago. Saw an ACG jacket for £99 and a few Marmot jackets. Even saw a Patagonia softshell! Didnt have any decent socks though

limerick (ireland) has loads of Westbeach jackets and a few Patagonia ones, well now it has one less - a Patagonia Primo jacket in fetching bright red for €130 reduced from €485. very happy bunny.

A pair of Men's brown Tommy Hilfigier ski pants in the Nottingham branch. Gore-Tex, taped seams, cyan blue detailing on zips and inside pocket flaps and black edging including re-inforced mateial on the bottom inside of the legs. According to the price label the RRP is £258 but they were going for £59.99.

pokemon, when mentioning Nottingham it's useful to say whether Broadmarsh or Mansfield Road branch. Ta!
Having said that, I couldn't find anything nice for women in either of them. All Trespass and Dare 2 Be cheapies and some others I'd never heard of - but were even cheaper.

The skiwear's on full display in the East Kilbride branch. Plenty of Dare2be and surfanic but a few Nike ACG, Rossi and other gore tex stuff at low prices for those that know what their looking for. I've got a few bargins in there over the last year, Cebé Jackel sunglasses for £15 and a Hackett merino wool jumper for £50.

Hi All,
I was mooching through TK Maxx Swindon and found a quicksilver shell that look decent quality but I tried looking it up on the web to check what sort for price it should go for but couldn't find it. I think this was because it originated in on the continent.
Bit tough I know but if I list some specs someone might recognise it
It is Quicksilver Heavy Weather - Limited Series
Possibly called Superior
It has a "Reflect Line" lining
It has Quiktech 10000
It has a camouflage pattern called true black
The pocket flaps have magnetic catches to hold them down
All seams are taped
TK had it priced at £516 retail and £199 their price
I think its meant to have a build in mp3 player and headphones but those were missing. But no matter as I'm mainly interested in how good a jacket it is.

I managed to get a Rossignol Tribe jacket in white and Red Rossignol salopettes in the London Beckton store for £45 and £35 respectively. Almost everything else in there was Trespass, Surfanic or Dare2Be at around the same price. The Surfanic stuff looked well featured and stylish (according to my sons anyway).
The Greenwich store has only Trespass and Dare2Be when I last looked.
The Beckton store had a range of gloves but I didn't check those in detail.
Oh, and Lidl are doing their ski wear again soon. My eldest wore his £14.99 suit for three weeks last year and it is still going strong and remains waterproof despite the love and attention that a seven year old can provide. Their helmets seemed the best deal last year and I hope to pick one up for me this year.

Visited the Cambridge store this weekend. Nothing like a bit of shopping to take the edge of the ski craving!
It was mostly full of the usual tat, loads of trespass jackets of various specs for £49, a bit of dare 2 be, a really old rossignol jacket is acid green (mmm nice), and loads of pretty looking orage stuff. There was one pretty green and white ladies volkl jacket, but at £99 I couldn't justify it! Trouser wise, there were were plenty of orage, tresspass, betty rides, a couple of tommy hilfinger all in the £30 - £50 range, and there was one pair of rossignol goretex in black, but I bought it...only £30! They had a few reasonable gloves, mainly surfanic, trespass, govini, and a few others. Very limited socks, mostly cutesy tube socks, although there was one pair of merino wool ski socks for only £8, but for larger feet (size 10ish). There was a good range of hats, beanies, wooly ones, ones with pom poms on, etc all for about £5. There was some ok looking fleeces, a couple of soft shells and then hoards of the usual cheap stuff.
Overall, a few gems but you really have to look.

If anyone's building a beginners ski set from scratch, theres some good Trespass gear in Costco for less than being sold in TK Maxx.
Salopettes £18
Thermal set (top and bottom) £8
Ski jackets (a few different ones) about £30
Head gloves £11

sounds well worth a look. I have had two Trespass jackets (£50 in TKM) both of which have done two whole seasons without any problem. I replaced them because I was bored, rather than cold and wet.

Spyder pants for £50 in manchester on Saturday, but even at £50 I wasn't tempted they were in TK's for a reason. Also some Tommy Hillfiger stuff, but it all looked a bit Eastern Block if you know what I mean.

As I am sure you are aware, anyone who runs a car will save the membership fee several times over by buying tyres there.
Costco we shouldn't really be telling everyone about it.

Went into makro in Nottingham this morning. Trespass jackets and trousers, £50 for the set - they have mens and womens in a couple of patterns and lots of sizes.
Fleeces, 2 for £20
Base layers, 2 for £10
Didn't look at the prices for gloves but they had loads.
As someone else said, quite useful for a first timer.

I think they will but you would have to order them, they only sell Michelin, but they are around 40% cheaper than ATS etc.

Took a dinner break and had a mooch round the Mansfield store. As with my two previous outings to any TK Maxx, it's a mess and takes too long to find anything. There are two rails of ladies ski wear, some really nice jackets, but never any matching salopettes and mostly sizes 8-12, very little in larger sizes. Brands I saw were Dare2Be, Trespass, O'Neill, Surfanic, Hilfiger, Helly Hansen and a couple of others I hadn't heard of. Saw a lovely jacket by 'Betty Rides' in my size (probably more of a snowboarding jacket than a ski jacket) but no matching salopettes and it was too expensive at £90 (originally £249.99, WTF?).
Overall, I remain unconvinced by TK Maxx and I don't think I'll bother returning.

that's nothing, there are heaps of far more expensive jackets than that around!
Kel, Helen Beaumont, might have a look at Costo for snowtyres - thanks. I have Michelin Alpin at the moment, and they seem fine, so some cheap ones would be good. I certainly need 2, and the other 2 are not in the first flush of youth. If they're 40% cheaper I might just buy 4. Have to go with my DiL to the one near Bristol - she has a membership there. I've never been to a Costco - new experience.

The price of the tyres are around 40% cheaper than ATS etc anyway. The last tyres I got for my car were £70 each, ATS quoted £110.
They have an offer on every so often, when if you but 4 you get an extra 25% off the already cheaper price. But as in my case I bought 4 for the wifes car, had 2 fitted then took the other 2 away for fitting at a later date. OK if you have somewhere to store them, bit of a pain if you dont.

Picked up a Rossignol Tribe jacket for £45 in the Derby branch, new to this skiing game so don't know how good those jacets are but certainly seems well made and a good fit. The jacket was marked up as a sample not for resale and came with attatched fabric samples in various colours, some of which I've found on line but none in blue like the one I bought, so if not unique I certainly seen to have found an uncommon one! The kids found themselves some Bloc goggles which they seem well pleased with and were a tenner (about half what they seem to be online in the ski and outdoor shop sites) some brand name hats, and 2 piece base layer sets for a tenner. I also got some Surfantic trousers for £40 which are identical to the ones Two Seasons just round the corner were selling for £80.
As always a total jumble sale but the ski stuff was more or less in one place (apart from hats and gloves which were on the end of of the formal coats section ) One or two of any item in random sizes so rather pot luck but worth a visit.
Costco, base layer for me tor £8 +VAT and Bolle Nova Modulator goggles for about £22 + VAT, same goggles on ebay £39.99 +post and up to around £60 in the web shops.

The Millets shop near me, Lakeside Thurrock is closing down and everything is half price. Bought 2 ice creaker T's for £24. I saw some hydration packs for £12, Berghaus Mera Goretex XCR Jackets for £125 (from £250), TNF Hyvent jackets for £90. Loads of other bits and bobs too like Tech washes etc. The guys in the shop are really nice.. help them find a good home for their lovely kit

Just got my 12 year old daughter her first 'womens' jacket and salopettes from the Dundee TKM. Very cool looking Trespass gear, £45 the lot. She is absolutely delighted, as am I. I think I have finally cracked how to shop there. Got Mrs Spud a pair of white breeks too, £19.99, they are not Goretex or anything like that, but very natty.

Plenty of mens and women's surfanic at St Albans, lots of trespass and Dare2B and some iguana. Also a couple of spider Jackets in tiny sizes (mens and womens) - how the mighty have fallen. Also tried the Snow and Rock Outlet Store in St Albans, really not a lot in at all and only about 20-30% off anyway.

You can buy as many as you like, 1 to lots, you only have to buy four to take advantage of the regular 20 to 25% extra discounts. They will order in any tyre that Michelin produce. I only ever seem to own cars with unusual tyre sizes so need to allow a few days for them to arrive. The only annoying thing is if you but two tyres they will insist on fitting them to the real wheels, apparently american drivers crash beecause they can't cope with the extra grip of new tyres on the front!

As a parent I reluctantly use TK Maxx for my kids' jackets and salopettes, but only because of the poor selection elsewhere (even if money were no object I can't find a single boys' jacket at S&R with a decent range of pockets).
As established skiers who presumably haven't been renting their clothing (?) I am surprised that any snowheads who aren't parents go near the place. Is it the female need to change outfit every year or is it because their stuff falls apart so quickly ? (like the kids' salopettes I got there last year which are already completely frayed around the bottom edges and the gloves I got for myself which fell apart on the third day).
