fatbob, Sounds spot on for round here too, i would say it's the way forward, for sure there will be little pockets of resistance and Ludites along the way, however this will just add to the culture.

From my recent tour of Western Canada I'd say sub 70mm skis are pretty much a dead donkey outside of rental fleets there |
By sub 70 mm, do you mean 70 or less? If so I agree, even among rentals. But there's plenty of life left in skis around the mid 70s width underfoot. I've yet to be convinced that a wider ski is inherently better - easier perhaps in some situations.
In the last couple of years width seems to have taken over from length for the willy wavers

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Exactly what I meant - rental fleets seem to maintain them as easy turning beginner/intermediate skis but anyone who lays out their own cash goes fatter.
I'm sure you're right in part about the willy waving but for me fattish skis have been a revelation, more maneouvreable given shorter length for the same "float" and not half as compromised on piste as I expected.
I've skied some excellent skis around 75mm waist but I wouldn't now buy a pair unless I only intended to sk on manmade/icy pistes (maybe much of Europe this year?)

I just managed to get a good deal on a pair of Scott P4 skis (>100 mm, and the most beautiful skis of this season ), so look forward to trying these out (the fattest I ski is a Karma in 87).
By the looks of things, I suspect I might actually do more spring snow/slushy days this season than massive powder dumps.
I'd be interested in hearing people's experiences with fatties in soft spring snow etc - do they work good under those circumstances?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

skibomb, Yes, they work great in spring snow, and yes they are great skis!

I notice that a lot of the testers rated the Eliminator very highly, it's only a 74mm waist. It's marketed more towards the beginner end of the ability range though.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, Just what I wanted to hear. Confirmation of my rationalisation why I needed these even though I already have a pair of Karmas and P3s!

skibomb, the P4s are the ones with the swallow tail and small venturi cover on the tails aren't they?

There's an "expert" version called the Hot Rod Modified, but EB don't sell it - probably not enough demand with all you lot on 90+ water skis

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
