Very nice.
Winter sure does appear to be well on its way in many parts of the alpes.
/hugs easiski, for the photographs.
I dont know about you guys but seeing pictures in threads is fantastic.
I agree media zone should be used for albums and vids etc but Its great to see a thread with a few
correctly resized pictures.
I think it should be encouraged, as long as rules on size are followed.
I for one will certainly sharing a photo or two on the boards from my trip next year.

We will be there in two weeks!!!!

Whitegold, About 3-4" where I walked, but probably more higher up - impossible to say.
metalhead132, Not enough cover low down, but it's possible high. I really couldn't say - as you no doubt know, we can't see very far up the mountain!
melting now in the village, but that would be good rather than bad, need that water to get into the soil and freeze. More snow coming so it should be fine for the opening from half way up. Main worry is very high winds at altitude - that snow ont he top of the Tete Moute yesterday was being blown!

Blimey, if I keep getting pushed this far down the page I'm going to give up the unequal effort! Well, a lot of low snow has gone in the last 48 hours, but there's still good white cover around the top of the Diable (check "Resorts" for map of the face). I'm actually surprised and encouraged how much snow is left, and when it's starts up again (anytime now), and if the temp drops it'll re-cover the lower slopes.
the cannons appear to have been working on the Valentin and nursery slopes, so it should be possible to get all the way down if you like blacks.

Obsessed_intermediate, yes LDA will always open on schedule due to the glacier. Dunno how much else will be open from day one.
brian, you are missing, from left, the Belle Etoile, Sapins and la Descente.

brian, Sorry about that - I'll have to do it in Corel Draw rather than photopaint another time.
I saw one of the piseurs today who told me that it was possible to ski down to 2,600 but the cover was not great. Can't say about ADH though - looks pretty green from here. The worst thing at the moment is that it isn't getting cold enough to use the cannons. We'll see tomorrow morning how it's going.
TallTone, thanks for the kind words. It's easy to take pretty pix when the scenery is so marvellous. I noticed that the grass outside my window was glowing orange so I looked out, and just had to leap up and snap it.

metalhead132, It's still very warm here in the town, but it was starting to rain when I came in at around 18.00, so at the very least it'll be snowing on the glacier.

It is in town, I was at 2000 meters hiking today in shorts and t-shirt, you could even picnic like that in the sun. There are just a few traces of snow at that level in the shade. You have to climb to around 2300m to find continuous snow on all slopes. According to la belle Helena at les Deux Alpes the runs will open down to the Tourra level (2600m) at the weekend. l'Alpe d'Huez will also open although they've not decided what, beyond the glacier, they will open.

Yeah true... I'd just been keeping a lid on my exasperation with Metalhead's comments all week...
Sat 25th - "I think the snow is going to come back next wednesday......"
Mon 27th - "The forcasts are calling for a snowfront next weekend!!!!"
Tue 28th - "Easiski, snow tonight!!!, more on the way by the weekend"
Tue 28th - "Tonight's front seems to be active, it can bring 15-30cm with snow level at 1500m"
Tue 28th - "The snowline will down tonight"
And what do we actually get? A warm, wet Les Deux Alpes, as the (more recent) forecasts predicted... The actual reason for the increasingly desperate forecasts by Metalhead can actually be seen here in a post made on the 22nd Nov: "I have booked for 6th to 10th december. " so all that is happening is, as I said elsewhere, people to whom it really matters (e.g. they're going out there imminently) will take on board all the available weather information then simply discard any that don't meet their most fervent desires, therefore any forecast model that picks up on a cold outlier ensemble run (usually one provided by an equally desperate local tourist office) and predicts snow is immediately seized upon as "the correct one" and all others are ignored. I think it's called "living in denial"...
Don't get me wrong, I really, really hope for all going out soon that it snows heavily in the near future, but "rogue forecasts" on here by those with snow-tinted spectacles on tend to (if you'll pardon the pun) avalanche into references to "someone said it was going to snow last week" sorts of comments by those who come along a bit later, when, in actual fact, the person making the prediction/forecast was quite often living in a fantasy world of hope rather than hard fact.
That being said, I'm not as gloomy as Stanton, I just hate the way that weather forecasts beyond a few days are given any kind of credence whatsoever! It looks as though a few changes in the arctic region that tend to favour colder weather for the alpine region are gradually starting to creep into place, so within a week or so I think we may start to see temperatures, at least, get down to snowmaking levels... whether the natural precipitation will also show up is anyone's guess.
