Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@Inboard, ah ok, so probably not much use for an Austrian based skier then!

I downloaded Skida now it's available on android, again, no real use to me currently as it's not covering Austria yet.

Routes for Austria will not be available in Skida before sometime next year, probalby not before the 25/26 season. Maps and avalanche forecasts should be in place by Christmas.

@brownie, Outdooractive has touring, backcountry descents, and pisted runs marked if you toggle ‘winter activities’. Think this may only be with subscription (but worth having as gives topo maps for all the interesting countries…)

Had a look at Chamonix and there is not much there in terms of tours and nothing for backcountry skiiing. Not sure if it’s because I’ve not subscribed

We'll be adding routes for the Chamonix region next week. Still working on the avalanche forecasts, a bit tricky but we'll get there eventually.

I was thinking about this thread earlier, and thought back to the Cody Townsend The Fifty project where he was using OnX backcountry.

Has anyone used that?

It's only available in North America. It seems they plan to keep it that way.

Thanks, Maps and Avalanche data is probably most important for me, as I've found some local sites that include some routes such as:

Email today from kickstarter that the Skida project reached its funding goal, so hopefully the promises will become reality.

I’ve just joined Strava on the free monthly trial via my iPhone but struggling to see any FatMap style ski routes content. The “Choose a sport” page doesn’t seem to give skiing as an option. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance

@Kentishmole, nothing, they killed fatmap. They just seem to want the 3d maps/flyover kind of thing for looking at completed activities.

@Kentishmole, Its not much use for skiing (I use it for cycling). However if you go to map then click on the sport symbol (next to heart rate) you can choose Alpine skiing. This then shows lifts and pistes but also (faintly as less "users") popular off piste routes. I can see this is of no use to folk who used Fatmap but would be useful if you want to record what skiing you have done. None of this makes any sense to me, Strava is a good tool for bike training, even at the level I use it I can see how my fitness has changed (hopefully improved) over a period of time. Why they paid money to buy Fatmap (which had a different function) then shut it down is a complete mystery.

@Kentishmole, read the first few pages, particularly page 2, there's lots of suggestions of apps people are using.

Currently i'm using Outmap, which is ok, but its not as good as Fatmap was. Crying or Very sad
