stanton, good vibe in town last week with the bike marathon (nailed it!!), filmfest and now the transalpine......don't think they'll sell much beer to the runners as they did to us mountain bikers though!!

Markymark29, I did a bike marathon in St.A once. Great fun. Ended up in Ferwalltal and there was some beer involved there as well. I just remember that at the end of drinking beer the skies opened and we ended up riding down the Arlbergpass, overtaking all the cars, in lashing rain in a state that we really shouldn't have been walking in  What route did you take?

Steilhang, Route goes from St Anton out to St Jakob, up Putzenalm, down Schoengraben, up Gampen, down past Zammermoosbahn and Sennhutte out to Mooserkreutz, along to Verwall, up to Maroi, anti clock round the lake, along Rendlweg, big climb then down Rendl piste, past the cemetery, through recycling depot, past football ground and school, up Main Street. I did it in 3 hours 10, 45k with c 1600m climbing all off road........winner 1 hour 47........mountain goats!! Next summer going to have a 4 day hut tour and sleep at 2400m every night, then 2 days in town then will be 75kg and ready to do in 2hours 45 mins on the Saturday.......now I know the track and all the feed stations etc I'll be on it, this year was a learning curve but still pleased with my result!

Loads of plans for new lift upgrades.... locals were telling me whilst away......thankfully Kappl lift over is stalling, really don't want that, it'll wreck Rossfall.

Markymark29, nice. The race I was in was only over about 1000m, but good fun all the same. This was about 20 years ago now so can't really remember the route. 1h47 for 1600m is pretty impressive! If this is really what you are into there's a race from Mittenwald to Lago di Garda every year. You should try for that!

Markymark29, You just need to register and have a partner who also Registers, and pay €650 each. I've done a Transalp before but I think this would kill me! I know a couple of guys who've done it though. Nutcases!

As far as Projekt Dias goes. The "Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfung" or "UVP" (Enviromental Impact Assesment) has been done.
There is suppose to be a decision this summer which they hope is positive. Still some financing issues.
The most important & difficult hurdle (as always) is the EIA. Lets wait & see.
Dont forget it took 41 years to get Auenfeld built !!

Don't know if this is old news but found out from locals folks we know whilst in Arlberg for summer holiday that the new Austrian smoking ban inside all bars and restaurants comes into effect 1st January 2014, great news. Up until now it was at the discretion of the owner and many had a wooly approach to this, not wanting to upset people.......now it's same as UK from start of next year, which I'm told most business owners are happy about, it's law now rather than discretionary which helps them.

Many bars have been gone non smoking. Last season DorfStube suddenly went
Non smoking during the season (i know reason ).
Laws that leave discretion do not work.
We have had the same problem in Holland
for years but from next July 2014 there is Total ban on smoking in all bars & cafes.

Judging by Facebook posts that appeared on my news feed today from locals and friends out there, it is snowing in St Anton and Lech. The webcams appear to support this. Winter is edging ever closer.
