really enjoyed our holiday in westendorf. fantastic area inspite of it being a below average snow month-so far.
hope the snow keeps coming. can't recommend it enough!!

Just woke up in mayrhofen and it's still snowing. The town is all White and everything looks great. Hopefully there should be quite an accumulation up the mountain. It will be great to ski and not see massive brown grass patches everywhere. We are of to gerlos today.

Snowing in Mühlbach this morning ! we have had 5/6 cms in the village and more up top, looks like it could be in for the day! should help to keep everything in great shape and has made the village look all very Narnia again! Whats the price of snowchains (for about tyre dim 205/55/16 (passat)) in Austria? Are they easily avaialable from gaz stations along the road?
Just asking as the rent was I guess as expensive as the chains and I could need them back in Norway on my Citroen Xantia.

Snowchains at gas stations motorway garages tend to similar to under items i.e. more expensive and / or lower quality. Here in Austria for a good quality set you are looking at about 90 to 140 €.
The first and third from left (price = 30€ & 70€) in this German test look to be very good value for money. The 30€ snow chain on the left is ideal for people who want a good quality chain but don't use chains often and would probably be ideal for Brit tourists. Snowchains come in different sizes that fit a range of tyre sizes. Be sure to buy a set that will fight the hire car and your car.

Thanks heidiky, that's fantastic news! We're coming to the Tirol in 5 days and although the wait is nearly killing me the thought of fresh snow makes me very happy. .

Been snowing in Kitzbuhel since Short and Curlies finished their set at Londoner last night. All day it has been dumping it down. Not great visibility and very flat light. Still, snow was much needed. Happy days!

Sleipnir, PM sent. I'm in Obergurgl for a week from 27th Feb. A chance to hook up for a quick slide perhaps ?? Any new snow is always welcome, but my understanding was that things were OK ( could always be better ) Am I wrong ?

Heidi, the run down was in great condition really- no ice at all. BUT the man made stuff is easy to trip over if you let your guard down!! I did and had a coming together with a wall of ice at side of piste about head high! Bashed it chest on, but no harm done (played rugby over 25 years so just tucked up a bit and whacked it), bounced off and put skis on and carried on regardless. I hate that soft man made stuff!!!! When i go in it, it wrecks my balance and it's easy to get my weight on wrong edge, if you know what i mean. You probably dont cos you will be a hell of a lot better than i am!! Anyway we got over to ski welt a few times and also above kirchberg a couple of times, Enjoyed all the pistes really and westendorf was lovely, even without snow on it!!

Heidi i bet Westendorf and the rest of ski welt looks much prettier for a few inches of snow cover.
Yep there were quite a few dutch folk last week but they were rolling into town in droves saturday morning!! Not seen anything quite like it.
The dutch aren't a problem to me anyway, easy to get on with sort of bunch. Really liked westendorf, stayed in hotel post-nice place, lovely woman runs it and makes a good job of it i'd say. Minutes walk to nursery lift then ski across to white bubble-easy peasy. we'll be back there in the future i think!

Been snowing for nearly 24 hours here in obertauern and no sign of it letting up. Generally been light/fine snow but prob had a total of 10cm so far with no sign of it letting up. Snow forecast shows more snow all week (and 15cm thrusday).
Only downside is that the the slopes ended up getting cut up very quickie today due to the unabashed snow and a bit icy with compacted snow in others.

Agree with kamikaze the slopes were cut up almost straight away over the icy base. Hopefully it might be better tomorrow once it's been bashed. It's been snowing for over 24 hours now and no sign of letting up at the moment. Off to hochfugen tomorrow as hoping to get as much use out of the pass as possible. Loved gerlos today despite the lack of visibility and the choppy slopes.

I skied in Fieberbrunn this afternoon, on a rather dull and snowy day. There was about 5 cm of new snow overnight and later in the day it snowed lightly again, on and off. Here's a view looking down the Lärchfilzhochalm ...
The new snow helped a bit but there was ice not far below. I also had the impression that the pistes were bumpier than I usually expect here and wondered whether it hadn't been possible to prepare them normally in the warm weather of the past days. There was better snow off the pistes but the dull light didn't make it very attractive. It was a good deal colder today.

In Westendorf at the mo. Started snowing Sunday night about 6pm. Just finished now (Tuesday 11.00) Overall I estmate 4 inches in the valley and more than double at top. Yesterday powder all over the place even on piste as the bashers did their job but it kept on snowing. Flat light this morning and -7. Tomorrow looks ace - no snow so the bashers can piste it, sun and -7 to -10. cANT WAIT!

Still snowing in mayrhofen. Been so for almost 2 days now. Visibility is still poor, but the lumps and choppiness of yesterday has gone to be replaced by squeaky soft snow on most runs. If the skies clear it will be perfect. Just had my lunch so off to ski some more runs now.

Desrtmk2, dumped down all day today in Kitz so guessing Soll is the same.
Dazman, this is what Kitz needed so should be great for your week.
General cconditions not ideal as whiteout through most of morning. The good news is weather presictions say blue skies tomorrow so should be good. Stewie and Chipper of Flanagans fame destroyed me last night so was quite happy when skiing was limited to mostly sitting in Alpenhaus and snitzel, sorry about spelling!

48 hours of continuous snow here in obertauern and still falling. There's fresh knee height powder at resort level on the bank behind our hotel. Depending upon direction/wind about 20-30cm has fallen during this storm and no sign of it letting up yet. Visibity is on and off. Piste side powder looks great but sometimes you can feel the hard bumps underneath, geat fine powder for those who are prepared to venture.
Pistes are good, but by the afternoon all the fresh snow on a hard base gets sweeped into piles on busier slopes (especially the red runs) leaving thin/hard bits underneath. So on one turn you can hit powder, packed bumps & icy compressed snow
If it keeps snowing then i think the avalanche risk could rise. At the moment it all seems fairly stable, but I've not ventured that far off-piste.

It's been snowing for 48 hours now. It's still tonking it down in mayrhofen. I got what I wished for and hopefully it will stop. Want to go hintertux tomorrow but if it's still snowing in morning will have to stay local. Want to go to hochfugen as well but not too sure of the road if it's covered with snow. Suppose would have to get the chains out if necessary.

Spot on conditions after all the snow here in scheffau. On sunday aft the place was a slush fest, now its spot on snow everywhere.
