@Markymark29, No, 3G means those who are fully vaccinated = OK, those who are recovered = OK, if you are neither you can have a test instead. The current 2G rule excludes the possibility of a test.

Ohh does this mean we are back to the “teenagers can’t do anything without testing in resort” scenario again?! That’ll be halfterm off the cards for us as we can’t risk a positive test and then we all have to stay there to isolate

No, not at all, you misunderstand. 3G is vaccinated OR recovered OR tested. It's just means that the unvaccinated can access bars and restaurants again.

Some relaxations coming, from this morning's press conf:

From February 5th, the curfew in the catering trade will be extended from the current 10 p.m. to midnight . There is also a little relaxation in the "events area". Instead of 25 people, 50 can now come together again without assigned seats.
A week later, on February 12, the 2G rule will also fall in retail . Also tests are not necessary to go shopping. The FFP2 mask requirement remains.
From February 19th, the 3G rule will apply in gastronomy and tourism instead of the 2G rule . This means that you will need a PCR test that is not older than 48 hours to visit a bar or hotel. If no PCR test is available, you can also submit an antigen test that is valid for a maximum of 24 hours.

Aaarg - just when things were looking up !
Our teens are just double vaxxed and hoping not to rely on ninja pass for restaurants but it looks like we might again

How is 3G for bars and restaurants a relaxation if only double jabbed as a 12-15 year old ? Means daily LFT right ?

@holidayloverxx, yes, perhaps, but it's from a live press report not regulations, which probably haven't been written up yet. To anyone living in Austria and used to dealing with the 2G/3G systems, it makes sense, and it really just saying that 3G now requires a PCR test for the testing element, rather than antigen, though it clearly goes on to say antigen is fine anyway

3G does NOT mean triple jabbed! It means there are 3 possible ways to get a pass (double jabbed, recovered OR tested) as opposed to only 2 (jabbed or recovered). It’s misleading as 3G *sounds* like it’s stricter than 2G. It’s not.

Just came through Salzberg airport. Was on a BA flight from Heathrow.
Smooth check in with BA last night, had to upload vaccine confirmations for verification before we were allowed to check in. The verification from BA took about 4 minutes and I got am email back to confirm I could now check in.
Through passport control quick enough and a quick scan of the QR code afterwards.
A slightly longer wait than ideal for bags but all sorted.

We're in a similar boat - As I understand it you will be fine, Antigen test in the 48hrs before will be needed for your son for Germany. Digital Registration should not be required but if airline insists on it then use the airport address on the form.

You may want to write on the form that you’re in transit going to Austria. That’s what I did. When we did stay in Germany in the summer our form was most definitely read by the local health authority and they contacted us about quarantining. So you may be able to preempt that by letting them know you’re not staying in Germany! Your son would fall under the quarantine requirement.

@harvey13, this has been answered a number of times, there is a seperate thread somewhere. There is no issue transiting to Austria (on the other thread someone actually emailed the Munich border police to get an answer) even for those who would have to quarantine like your son. In theory you do not have to fill in the https://www.einreiseanmeldung.de/#/ as you will only be in Germany for a very brief time. However the airlines seem to be very reluctant to let you check in without it, fill it in and use Munich airport as your address (the post code is the important bit). Not sure your son needs a test but again probably easier to do simply to avoid arguments at check in. Take some evidence that you will be staying in Austria with you, it will almost certainly be asked for by the German border police (not for you as you can enter Germany without any issues but for your son).

Yes, but it’s only relevant to Austrians and residents, not to tourists/travellers coming to Austria. |

Went to SkiWelt today. A couple of things that might be of interest to those planning a trip to Austria.
There was no check on vaccination status either entering or leaving Austria. I used the Inntal autobahn which would be the most used route for anyone flying into Munich and transferring to an Austrian resort. On entering Austria there is a cabin which at some point in the past was used for checks but it clearly has not been used for some time. On returning to Germany there is the checkpoint which has been there since the refugee "crisis" in 2016, but they are not interested in checking vaccination certs only on the look out for trucks with illicit passengers.
In the resort QR codes were being scanned both at the ticket desk & in restaurants. The woman in front of me at the tickets desk had a paper of some sort, which seemed to cause grief as it wouldnt scan. There was a fair amount of discussion with the person in the ticket office pointing at the woman's phone, which clearly didnt have an app on it. She did get her ticket in the end but it was grief, clearly the expectation is that people will have the code on their phones (everyone I saw being checked at a restaurant produced a phone).
The lifties were being very strict about masks first thing at the main gondola. However for all the chair lifts on the mountain, whether they had a "bubble" or not and despite signs, saying "wear a mask past this point", the lift bods were not wearing them nor were they asking anyone else to. I found the best thing to do was to fix one side to my helmet strap, it was them easy to fix the other side to a clip when needed (but gave up when I realised no one was being asked to). It was very quiet today so maybe things would be different on a busy day.

@munich_irish, sounds pretty similar to my experiences. On the chairlifts I’ve generally just been pulling my buff up to show willing, but haven’t shared a chair with anyone outside my group at all this season there is hardly anyone about. Never shared a bubble either, only the funiculars.
The one thing that is annoying right now is that in the last 2 huts I’ve been in, we haven’t been able to get served without providing our details. This is a hangover from contact tracing days, but I think the authorities have all but given up on that, so it seems particularly pointless. Previously, they just left a QR code on the table, which could be easily ignored.

I haven't seen anyone asked to provide anything on the mountain for a while now. Even in the village the usual routine is 'have you got 2G proof' answer is 'yes' and a little fumbling with phone then told OK sit down without actually checking anything. As far as the lifts are concerned the gondolas are very strict, chairlifts less so. The lifties are putting masks on it I ask them to help with ski school groups but aren't asking my clients to put them on when using surface lifts.

@Chris_n, previously, we’d only been in one restaurant that had insisted before letting us through the door, and that was in the city centre last year. It’s noticeable that it’s happened twice within a week, one up the mountain at Seefeld, and the other in a village near Innsbruck, but not somewhere we’ve been before. There was just a large pile of contact papers stacked up on the bar. Hopefully they will be in the shredder before too long

We are in Niederau now after two weeks in Hintertal, we were always asked to show our Covid passes in the restaurants, except in Tom’s at the top of the gondola in Maria Alm when the waiter said if we had skied there then we must have had the pass. We were asked this evening, but not at lunchtime. The gondola required masks and we are pulling them up at the other lifts if there are lift attendants in evidence. Having fixed little clips onto our helmets it is very simple to pull them up and down.

In Tux at the moment.
Every bar/restaurant in the village I have been in has asked for proof of vaccination. Some on the mountain. I had to show QR code to buy lift pass.
Very few lifties visible ( generally inside), nearly everyone wearing PP2 mask on chairs and not seen anyone not wearing one in gondola/cable car.
There is no one here - shared big runs to the mid- station today with 10 other people.
