Chasseur, last year, in the last week we were skiing down to le lac no problem, think this year could be a bit bare, but there are good reports of winter conditions on the glacier , and some good snow forecast for up high, the web cams show runs down to resort just about still white, so a bit of new snow may see them last till the end of next week.
i for one will be skiing in may once again

First post ! I was in Val from 17th -24th April (first time back since late 90s) and I was really impressed at how well they'd kept the pistes. pretty much everything high up was great. Le Fornet especially was good I thought. The resort runs seemed to be holding up even if the nursery was vanishing all week. Off the Solaise we skied 'L' down three days no problem, M was rock hard though in the am. Off the Bellevarde Santons ended in a bog at the bottom and a bus trip back to the lifts. Down into La Daille the runs were a confusing mess of switching from blue to red to blue to find the open route down. It was also so heavy at the end of the day it wasn't worth it. Face by 11am was so heavy by the mid point it wasn't any fun at all.
Down into Tignes the snow seemed a lot worse. The bowl it sits in seems to keep a warmer climate so the runs down into Val Claret were really heavy. The glacier though was absolutely superb some of the best skiing of the week. Sadly the blue down (Genepy) was pretty horrible. Good cover but really grabby heavy snow and you couldn't get the speed up to avoid loads of poling. Should have took the red in hind sight.
But overall it was a great trip. The temperatures on the lifts were at time pretty nippy and I think this helped keep the snow. I'd certainly say that if the conditions in Val were like this given the season there has been it would have no problems most years.
lightningdan, same to you . if i can find some wi-fi , will send a couple of live update over the weekend

Great day in tignes today, bright skies with a nice fresh wind to keep you cool, started the day going straight up to the grande motte and found the best snow of the season for me so far, with a few cm of fresh snow off piste, so a couple of laps of the cable car , then various off piste on the glacier was great fun, after lunch did three trips downnthe wall , which had great soft spring snow and was smiles all the way,
Finished off with fresh tracks down grizzly at four pm , and a copule of cold beers at the bottom
Nice and cold most off the day up high so things looking good for tomorrow
After all it is free

Fresh powder on the last day of the season off piste off the top of Fornet. Wonderful end to a mixed week.
It was pretty difficult to avoid the heavy slush all day but they did well to keep as many runs usable as they did. A few days of whiteout towards the end of the week didn't help.
Motte was in great condition all week.
Thoroughly worth going despite the mixed conditions.

Today was just great, warm up on piste from tignes to val d'isere , then up to the pays desert , followed by signal and and a close encounter with a speed skier. Then a short hike followed by a great descent of the north face of borsat, and then a final trip all the way to top off grande motte for a top to bottom tour .
Great day with cold firm snow early followed by a softer pm, things set to warm up a bit more tomorrow , so we are up to the grande Motte to see what occurs

wow , what a last day in tignes, with val closed we did a couple of warm up laps of the aeroski ,, then when things had softened up we headed over to the col de ves which was awesome, a little bit of polling was required to get out but the views and empty off piste was well worth it, from there we headed back over to the grande motte for some loverly soft powder skiiing, followed by a well earned long lunch and a go down the wall, which in really great nick at 2 pm, and finally finishing of a great three days with and blast down grizzly, and straight into the mini bus back to geneva.
on way to airport saw some quite big dark clouds gathering and went through some rain, so good chance some snow may fall uo high, i am sure anyone out for the last week will have a blast, but be sure to take water and food out with you as most places on the hill seemed to be shutting up early

Wow,
I am with Neilski, I was on the return leg of his transfer and have had 3 days great skiing in Tignes, yes it looks horrible but the runs that are open are great , and managed to ski boiler plate, perfect snow and slush on every day. Skiing from 9 till 3.30 for the three days. The glacier was great and some of the lesser used runs were empty and the last two days were cloudless windless days. Wish I could have stayed longer. It was a great way to end the season and would recommend it to anyone.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Just got back down. Loads of snow up there, but the rain/snow line was pretty high (around 3100 mostly) so the snow was heavy and the weather conditions 'challenging'. The top piste from the cablecar to the top of the Champgney t-bar was nice, but gloopy below that. Despite this we did some good work and just pretended we were skiing slow motion powder Temperature due to fall a bit tomorrow, so should be good.
We've moved from the balance board to American Indian Leg Wrestling. This is much more fun!

After the Native American Leg Wrestling (where does skimottaret find these games?) earlier in the evening last night got a bit silly and balance board challenges got tougher and tougher:
Drinking and balancing
Tandem balancing
There were also one-foot balancing and push-up balancing plus a whole series of challenges against the French Alpine Corp who popped in to the bar for a drink, but I'd retired from the madness by then so no photos.
Today was pretty good on the glacier with a bit of fresh overnight and sunshine, albeit a bit windy at times. All in all pretty good for June
