Please excuse, slightly off topic. Heading to Les Gets for the first time in the morning. Don't have a ski pass yet, so could somebody advise what the best strategy is to get a park, get a ticket and get up the slopes ASAP. i.e Which car park would be best and then which lift etc. It looks like there is a car park and ticket booth at the bottom of Perrieres Express than may be an easier option. However, unclear whether i can access rest of LG from there. Thanks.

Just to put a bit of zzz perspective on it! Max 30cm in my garden at 1000m. Headed over to plain dranse/Chatel today. Skied off piste most of the day but had to be very careful to avoid rocks and ditches. Couldn't ski any of the usual off Piste bits such as LA Leche due vis and lack of snow. On piste was ok but many scrapped bits by this avo. All in all a fun days skiing but I was somewhat disappointed with the amount of new snow compared to the prediction on the other thread.

For some reason Google Maps doesn't show the ski lifts and pistes at Les Gets?

@Juddernaut, Perrieres Express is perfect. I would imagine it will get busy tomorrow being a Sunday and with fresh snow. You can access the bowl from there (Ranfolly lift might still be out of action) and go over to the Chavannes sector via Nauchets Express or over to Morzine side.

Thanks @igLou, Will head to Perrieres and report back. Don't suppose you know what street I would put in my GPS. If google maps had the pistes/lifts I could work it out for myself. What time do you think we need to be there to beat the unwashed masses?

@Juddernaut, it's not difficult to find. If you are coming up from Taninges/Cluses direction then when you get to Les Gets it is the first lift you see down on the right before you get before you get to the village, it's well signposted. IIRC the turn is actually on the roundabout that announces you are in Les Gets. I would probably aim to be there for 08.30 latest if it was me (sadly it's not me)

@Juddernaut, @igLou, is quite right - you will have driven up and round the roundabout by the Hotel Chinfrey go round it and the car park is right there and a ticket office. I think that the Les Gets website is truly awful - so difficult to find anything really important and full of fluff with pretty pictures.... we have just got back from being out down in the town for a quick glass or two and the difference in 24 hours is amazing - and all those BLAH bods wandering all over the road.
Our neighbours had a guest delivered at about 11.15 last night by Skiidy - we could see a kerfuffle going on in the road - turns out that chains were then required - and the poor guy, the driver, had no torch with him. I am sure it was not your husband @Nadenoodlee, but neighbour ended up out in the road holding his torch.... before I got all evangelical about this I had to check that my OH has a headtorch in the bag with all the necessary.

Absolutely not Mr NN @Pamski, he carries all manner of crap with him at all times (head torch, thin gardening gloves- v good to keep with your chains and a ridiculous supply of Haribo!)

Rainfolly still out of service according to PDS IPhone app. Now thinking of going for gold and trying to park at bottom of Chavannes. Is this sensible or do you envisage carnage down there tomorrow?

No, Google Maps if fine but the Les Gets pistes and lifts are not mapped. You can see the lifts and pistes for most resorts nowadays on Google Maps. For an example look at Les Carroz on Goggle Maps.
On another note; please tell me chains will not be required to get to LG tomorrow from ATMB side.

is that when you come home? aaah - home, doesn't that sound nice in Seytroux.
@Juddernaut, [b I am sure you will get to Les Gets in the morning - hope so... we are off to St Gervais from LG first thing. You can take a sign that says Weekend Parking which takes you up the road past our chalet to park near the school and there is a piste down to the bottom of the slope near the start of the Chavannes Express and the ticket office. We walked up and took that route the other day and it was absolutely awful - they may have sorted it out by now but I think our little piste must be very much bottom of the list of things to do. If you are going to drive up to the Chavannes then do it early, and if you can't park right by the lifts then go past the VIP chalet and there is a car park along there.

@Nadenoodlee, thought I was going to have to put the chains on at one point this morning, managed not to thankfully. I need to practice as hubby almost always does them. Think I might go on that ice driving course down at Abondance.

Got there early and went for gold by parking in the underground park at bottom of Chavannes. Got park and lift ticket quick smart without a hitch. On lift up to Chavannes at 0900. Naturally it was quite cold. Lots of snow cannons blasting the wife with cold snow. Snow very good, lots of cover.
Mont Chery looked very sunny and warmer so we headed over. Snow up there just about perfect. Bottom half of Chamois run back to to village fairly ordinary, but enough snow there to avoid download.
I caught an edge howling down Marmottes and had a big shunt right under the Chery-Nord chair, much to the merriment of those on the chair. A lot of snow in places where the sun don't shine. Wet undies for the rest of the day.
Lifts on Mont Chery are slow (compared to AUT, CH and ITA resorts I have recently frequented) and really need upgrading. Planeys, Grande Ourse and De La Pointe chairs are stinkers. De La Pointe particularly low and hard hitting and you think they could at least pad the bare metal on the back of the chair.
Enjoyed my new found wealth, earning Swiss choofas and spending Euros made the day fairly cheap. Lift ticket was fair value. Coffee etc on mountain was OK and lunch was pretty good value (exceptional value compared to Switzerland).
Best bit, no crowds. Very nice village and we had a great day. Snow should last for a while me thinks.

Mont Chery does not need the lifts upgrading. It keeps it quiet.

Can't even stretch to some rubber for the back rests? With your logic it would be even quieter if they ditch the lifts and make everyone skin up.
Communist bloc tried the never upgrade approach, didn't work too well for them.

Last time I was in morzine, locals were talking about the PDS being extended from the back of Mont Chery. Any updates on this in was it just a pipe dream?

no updates on that but there has been serious talk, and from the mayor himself apparently at NY, about a new lift to go over the village from around the school/lake area (that is where we are, so not sure if we want it or don't want it) to the area around the top of the gondola to relieve the pressure on the Chavannes/Rosta bowl area - but they would need to improve the current lifts, create some more pistes and put in more snowmaking - I am quite happy to have MC left as it is.

Hearing ya. I also assume that MC gets beaten up by the sun pretty quick. Reminds me of Signal sector at Alpe De Huez, stinky lifts and all.

What I heard at NY with my rusty translation skills was:
-New gondola from ESF ski school front de neige Les Gets to Mont Chery
-Two new runs on Mont Chery side with a run down to Perrieres car park to create a loop
-All by 2016/17
Personally, I'd be happy if they let it be, as some good runs and really quiet. With the great views too, I'm happy to pay the price of slow chairs!
