Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tignes Snow Report 2010/2011

Just got back this morning and I would agree with everything that James the Last, said. What a superb week. Out at 9.00 in the morning (with sharp edges) and back again at 5.00 most evenings with soggy socks!.

Much colder today, with a chilly north wind blowing.

Have been over in EK since Monday and to sum up conditions: everything high is OK, skiing down to resort isn't that great...
Gde Motte/Leisse etc good, Col des Ves OK, most other bits of Tignes thin & patchy.
"bellevarde bowl" OK, though big earth patch on the roll over just above Folie Douce, and the start of the 'green' runs on Borat Express isn't that 'green'.
Face was suffering on Tuesday, some very thin areas, but big slushy bumps down the lower half - awesome!
Solaise bowl in very good shape, the red down to town narrow & big slushy bumps on Tuesday. Runs down to bottom of Machet Express now shut, but the lift is still running (but only until 1400) for returns from Cugnai/Fours valley.
Le Fornet good, the blue down to the bottom is still in reasonable shape, though pushing the boundaries of a 'blue' run in places.

Today we found some reasonable spring snow up around le Fornet, and even some nice wind-drifted powder - very pleasant surprise!

A little info on how Tignes are maintaining skiing for clients;

Dear Owners,

As you all noticed, we live in today an exceptional situation.

Despite abnormally high summer temperatures for the season which necessarily affects the degradation of the snowpack, Tignes is doing well and Killy The space offers a satisfactory product.

Economy Track and STGM do an outstanding job in maintaining the field until the end.

Other stations are far behind us and some have already closed or are about to close or reduce their field before time.

Here is the information station until the end of the season:

Ski area:

- Opening Espace Killy: closing 1 st May evening held

- Tignes opening between 2 and May 8 in the evening also maintained

Organization:

- Area Grande Motte: the ski lift Rosolini exceptionally open from Sunday, April 17 to offer our customers additional high altitude skiing

In the same logic, the funicular will open at 9.00 instead of 9.15

Priority corridors will be installed before the end of the week for schools on all lifts in La Grande Motte

- On stages for schools in sports: in the event of a closure of the stadium Lognan, part of the track Rosolini would be reserved for competition

- Side Brévières the STGM anticipates from Wednesday, April 13 opening Brévières chairlift at 8.30 instead of 8.45 so that beginners can take the shuttle from 8.45 to Boisses.

Of course, we will keep you informed by email if a major change should take place before the end of winter.

Wishing you a very good end of season.

Cold yesterday - -12C at the top of the funicular at 9.30 am ! Felt like winter...

Quite a bit of cloud hanging about the summits, but a big 'blue hole' over the Leisse valley and some awesome spring snow. Some great stuff to be skied from the lifts down the Leisse shoulder with a bit of side-stepping or skinning to exit...

Arrived here yesterday afternoon. The snow is better than I thought it might be which is great. As I passed the Sache on the way up the mountain that was open and with good coverage. Ok, there's not as much snow as this time last April but still plenty of skiing to be had for those going to the Espace Killy soon. It was cold out last night at resort level, could have done with a pair of gloves on. It's a warm sunny day here today but not baking hot.

Hope all those heading out soon have a good week.

Looks like we are in for another great days skiing in the espace de killy Very Happy

Despite all the doom and gloom on other threads we still have very good skiing above 2100m, with most pistes open, and some very good spring off piste skiing Very Happy The snow on Grand Motte is just awesome with real winter snow. Rossolin has just been opened to give additional piste skiing and some teams are getting in a little additional late season race training.
Yes the runs to resort are very slushy after lunch but just enjoy the face shots Little Angel

Check out waynes diary on the alpine experience web site for more details.

These photos were shot on the 13th (give or take a day) but I only just got hold of them and I really wanted to share them as this is the best line that I have ever skied and a week on and its still in my head. I hiked and skied pisteurs couloir with an austrian bloke I met at the beginning of the climb and the photos come credit to his mate who patiently waited at the top of bellevarde. In the couloir the snow was actually very nice and powdery unlike the rest of the resort which was alternating between ice and slush (I do like slush and I don't even mind ice as long as its smooth)

The couloir viewed from bellevarde

Myself in the upper section of the couloir

and exiting the couloir, both myself and the Austrian are visible here, him lower down

rambotion, Nice pics, the snow cover looks good. I did the that couloir a few years ago, loved it, didn't feel as steep as it looks once you're in it. I also did the north face of the Pramecou over at Tignes, that's more a wide face than a couloir but was steep and holding good snow when I did it.

Who knows Puzzled

Yesterday it was forecast to rain and we had a beautifull day Puzzled Rain/snow was forecast last night and the skies were clear Puzzled This morning it is another clear beautifull morning Very Happy
It looks like we will have some snowfall, above 2500m, later in the week. Perhaps lots of powder Puzzled

The pictures above were taken around the Marmottes lift area and you can see the pistes are still in great shape, although a little slushy in the afternoons.

Just back from Tignes and an enjoyable long weekend of spring skiing - so I would think anyone heading out in the next few days will have a nice time.

A bit soft/slushy, but all perfectly skiable/enjoyable. If you want something different head up to the glaciers (both the Tignes and the Val D glacier) and you can find some 'proper' winter snow too Little Angel

We had a bit of rain late afternoon/evening down in Lavachet yesterday - so this may well have fallen as snow on the upper slopes.

All-in-all a nice weekend of spring-snow and sunshine.
