just got back from a real good week in L2A  must say i'm glad i didn't book it for this coming week as the forecasts all say sun and no snow. pistes have rocks popping up all the time so regular rock picking patrols are being done, slopes in the sun were icy or off piste was powder with an icy crusty layer on top which made for interesting skiing! the uber glacier park is no more and the new one is rubbish according to me and everyone we spoke to as its a case of tiny jumps or massive jumps with nothng inbetween. valentine is do-able if u don't wanna queue to get a lift down but all other lower runs are not a good idea. if the weather carries on like it has been the it might be worth taking a mountain bike instead of ski's!

easiski, we hear mark_20vt, 's summary of conditions from guests at the end of every week, more or less regardless of snowfall - "Oh we had a great time, but next week won't be very good". Possibly something to do with the fact that they won't be here and don't want to feel they're missing out!

not at all! i really wouldn't want to be there now! there is no denying that there is a big need for a dump. we were promised one last wed but got sun instead and again yesterday but again it was sunny. All of the reps i spoke to agreed with us. apparently this week is generally a quiet one so hopefully conditions will improve for the following week. i suppose that when your running a business its not a good idea saying that conditions are rubbish and there is no snow so feel free to shoot me down, i'm just saying what i (and several others) think to the conditions

i'm not asking for perfect powder daily. i know conditions in L2A are better than a lot of places but they are still nothing to write home about. to say conditions were excellent is not exactly true is it??? its my personal opinion that i don't want to be there this week so argue it out between yourselves wether conditions are 'excellent'! hope your clients have a good time. i'm now off to repair my bases from all the rock scrapes.

Last week was excellent where I was.... Off-piste was skiable and very worthwhile whilst the pistes were in fabulous nick, hard but with a good top cover and NO rocks.
It would be differcult to recall a better week allround

I think everyone is correct, snow could be better but UI have also been in much worse conditions too.
The high temperatures this season have tended to fuel the good/bad conditions debate, whereas if it was freezing cold with the same amount of snow I do not think that we would be having this same old discussion, we would simply be considering that missing out on a dump of snow was just bad luck.
There is still quite a lot of snow banked at the edges of the pistes to keep conditions ok for a while yet though.

No snow has been forecast in the french Alps for the past 10 days.

mark_20vt, villified for having an opinion - and just when you thought that was why you came on a 'forum' !
i was in LDA 2 weeks ago and although we had amazing snow fall whilst we were there, your right there WERE ROCKS on some of the pistes by the end of the day and we all came home with lovely deep gouges on our boards. Some areas i.e the Nursey slopes around les cretes were pisted better than others so if some people have only been in those areas they may not of experiend the 'rocks' that you and I saw !
But from what i have seen from other resort threads & webcams LDAs snow was still pretty damn good !!

You know what I find hilarious??? Everyone has different opinions, expectations and hopes and when they don't match, it all comes crashing down. I'm just looking forward to getting out there!!! Rocks or no, It will still be better than being in the office!!! I'm lucky I don't have expectations having never skied in Europe before. As long as I don't dislocate my shoudler this time, I'll be a happy bunny.

Just booked my stay in LDA for Easter
Will be driving out in My Van with 3 mates with the van piled with fine selection of beers and food. As long as i can ski each day and visit a few bars in the nights i dont mind about the state of slopes. I'm sure we'll have fun!

Leis, garethjomo, you guys will have an excellent time - the snow was fantastic (even with a few rocks & it was only a few) it will be a zillion times better than work !!
Just make sure you cover all angles when you post your post trip reports otherwise you will be shot down in flames !!!

Last week in Engelberg the Yanks turned up and had heard about the poor snow so far... Engelberg had only had 3 snowfalls thi season, they of course, had come from brilliant conditions in the west. It snowed their 1st night but was clouded in so some choose not to go up the next day...big mistake... the sun was above the cloud at about 1800 mts and a blue sky day in fresh... Next day, they complained about the bad vis that the snowfall brought.. Lots of other complaints and I guess that our expectations are often too high.
Its the mountains...damn tricky bugs...!!!!

It was snowing pretty much all day at the Cretes. clearly ditto higher up, and by the late afternoon was just beginning to settle lower than the previous snow line. It sort of stopped for a while around 17.00, but was flaking just now as I was skiing home from the centre of town.
I was still able (just) to traverse the lower slopes this morning, but it was very iffy - didn't damage my skis though. The traverse back from the top of the Lutins slope was actually better than last time I skied it, but perhaps it was just that I was going slowly and thus avoiided the little rocks that caught me last time.
~Around 5cms or maybe a tad more on the Cretes today - enough to have a nice "feel" at the edge of the piste. Later on I skied the red top of Thuit, which was still in very good condition, and then the blue Thuit, which was OK but quite hard and icy in exposed places (humps). Camera wouldn't work - too cold - sorry.
