Hi, I have been watching this thread closely as I arrive in Avoriaz next Wednesday.
A couple of quick questions from the locals if I may .... How busy is next week likely to be? The next question, we have been offered a good deal at hotel dromonts, anybody got any views on it? I hear it has only just reopened.
Thanks
Mr Ted

@Nelbert75, When you say the red off Cornebois do you mean left as you come off the lift and then traverse across to the gulley (Perdrix Blanche)? I don't know what the conditions were like today (and to be honest I don't have the knowledge to assess them if I had been there) but the mountain above that run is known to slide sometimes and if you are in the gulley when it does you could easily end up under 10 metres worth. When I've asked pisteurs or instructors they have usually said closed for avalanche risk. it is a mighty fine run though!

Yup Sarah it was left off the lift from Cornebois. I am reasonably avalanche aware, and was prepared. Good advice none the less, did have a word in the hut and a good look at the face. Obviously it's still a risk and worth pointing out - should others less aware be thinking of following.

Tried Morzine yesterday morning...yea, were down eating an early lunch at 11:30. Being daggered with snow on a chair just to pole down some link tracks as nothing else was open wasn't fun.
Went up Prodans in the afternoon and the run back to the bottom was quite nice - once through the white-out at the top station!
Today was sent around Chatel way and lovely skiing.
Anyone know what Morzine/Les Gets was like today and if enough is likely to be open tomorrow to make it worth the trip? Spent all week not getting high/to the other Swiss side of Avoriaz...

Can't help with your hotel but trip advisor doesn't generally lie...
|
Are you sure?
Most of the reviews on there are self generated by the hotels in order to drive business.
Anyway, how is Les gets faring up today, has the snow started yet?

@mheadbee, 2.4C here at our chalet at 4.30 this afternoon. The snow has not yet started but it looks as if the rain has stopped.

It's snowing like it means it in Les Gets after a day of quite pathetic rain. Has been snowing about an hour and we've got about a cm.
Am jealous of the 6yr old who gets to go out tomorrow morning whilst I look after his younger brother.

It started to snow as we went out at 6.30 this evening - 0C - and the car was covered by the time we drove home an hour later.

Not been in since the renovation, but it's the jewel in the crown of Avoriaz "old town", the original '60s bit. Small rooms but great "Barbarella" architecture and loads of history, celebrity guest photos etc. from the days of the film festival. And it's the only game in town if you want a proper hotel, the rest is all s/c apartments (and a few chalets). Unfortunately the thoroughly decadent "Roc Club" in the basement closed in the '90s, but there's still a good bar and restaurant. N.B. A friend ordered two coupes of champagne there last week - a nice round €50 was the bill . Go for it, it will be memorable!

Been dumping for a few hours now here at 1200m, maybe 4-5 inches perhaps. Going to be a good one tomorrow

There's a thick, thick THICK layer of snow waiting to be skied this morning. IT's still dumping it down too
I've sent Mr Mountain Addiction out to do the snow clearing and dig the minibus out while I cook breakfast for some excited guests, needless to say he's been working harder than me! - there is a lot out there, nearly 20cms by the looks of it - and that's just out the front door at resort level!

25-30cm (depending on where I measure) at village level in Les Gets. Beautiful fluffy snow and there's no chance of me getting a proper ski in until Monday. WOE.
It's still coming down solidly.

20 cms is good and will help but was skiing chatel on Thursday and was all a bit sad compared to good years. But still some good skiing to be had and with the freshers will be better. Needs a big one though in the next few weeks temps look interesting for next week.

It's a lot compared to how much we've had so far, which has lasted since 28/12 through warm temps, and there's more up the top. My measurements are from the Taninges end of the Rue du Centre. Anyway, still snowing solidly, it's forecast to snow again this week and stay below 0deg. I may be able to get off my rock hoppers this week.

Webcams look amazing compared to yesterday and there's a fair bit more forecast for the rest of the day and some good amounts possible throughout the week. Fly out tomorrow. Bring it on!

Everywhere will be great @Jenniper, it's chucking down now and likely to do so on and off for the whole week. I was in avoriaz today- visibility a bit crap high up (Arare and Fornet) but fine in Lindarets bowl.

Pleased for my brother who is off to Les Gets on Monday, and for the rest of the folk on their way, but so jealous seeing the white blanket at morzine resort level compared to the heavy rain of two weeks ago. Ah well, you win some, you lose some! Enjoy everyone!!
