The 31st is what i've seen thrown around, but could change earlier. |
I hope so - going out on 28 Jan, driving, but will have trouble doing the PCR & getting the result in time to get there. Hope UK gets dropped from the variant country list by then as all EU countries have omicron now......

This change to a 6 month certificate is a pain when Sweden is also only allowing a booster to be taken after at least 6 months. Means my two-dose certificate will be literally days away from expiring when we go for our trip in March.
Though Im sure things will change again by then.

Unless the rules changed again Green Pass is proof of 2 jabs and reducing that validity to 6 months is to encourage uptake of the booster. I don't think booster validity is the same as green pass is it? |
According to ORF, the third jab is valid for 9 months, it will be jab 2 that only lasts for 6 months. https://orf.at/stories/3242710/ For the green pass, you scan your latest dose and it has the validity that applies.

I have scanned a number of codes for people who have things like less than 120 days, Covidshield Indian batch first vaccination and a few other questions. All have passed the green check app as long as there are 3 doses present, as @Scarlet says it only looks at and reports data from the latest code.

From my understanding he can enter on condition
- travelling with fully vaccinated (3 doses) adult
- not born before 1 sept 2006 (obviously qualifies)
- has a negative pcr test taken no earlier 48 hours of landing
- is vaccinated themselves but not necessarily 3 doses **
- has to use ‘ninja pass’ to confirm they remain negative by taking 2 (or 3) further tests during the week.
** This last part I’m least certain of and wouldn’t mind some clarification! I go in February and my kids (12 & 14) will have had 2 doses by then but an accompanying family maybe only 1 dose as 12 weeks wont yet have passed since their first dose to allow the 2nd as vax team were late getting to their school.

@melandnick, the 12-14 unvaccinated can take a PCR to enter Austria. The issue will be when they are in resort as they will need to do 2 PCRs during the week and one LFT. Essentially the PCR will last 72 hours but since the PCR results take 24 hours the child will need to take a new PCR every 48 hours. The one LFT will last for 24 hours only.

@james75, there are no changes to the regulations that have been in force for a couple of weeks now, seems the tourist board may have just but a few things right after the Christmas / new year holiday. 15 (born after Sept) -18 year olds need to fulfil the same criteria as adults i.e. 2 doses plus booster or recovery plus two doses plus a negative PCR.

Thanks - have read and re-red the latest update (Jan 5th) and there was one point referring to that age group which mentioned that they must have three jabs, a previous point mentioned that recovered equated to a booster jab. I was a bit confused! Banking now on GP signing a certificate of recovery.

Recovery plus 2 shots is a welcome update for us as it means our 16yo would be able to travel if we went to Austria over the Feb half term week.
Question on that - I know recovery has to be within last 6 months, but is there and minimum gap required between 2nd shot and travel in this case? I can't see anything in the rules, and am hoping it's the same situation as for those that are boosted, ie you could have had the booster a day before traveling and that's good enough...
In our case, the 16yo will have had their 2nd jab about 2 weeks before we would be travelling...

I think for UK people this is the great hope, omicron is going to be everywhere pretty soon so no point varying the rules for countries with omicron! That's what I'm hoping anyway, 26th February is a long way away.

I think it was always recovery plus 2 jabs for that age group. The biggest problem is proving the recovery, as under 16s can't get proof of recovery via the nhs app. I believe over 16s can?

would this not also apply to 15 year olds (born after 1/9/2006) so wouldnt even matter if they had no vaccines at all - its so b****y confusing !

2 fully-boosted parents travelling with a 10 year old and a 14 year old (born 2007) who has had one course of vaccine end of Nov (so not yet eligible for second shot).
Plan would be to go to Mayrhofen, where their gargle test/holiday Ninja pass system seems to be well-embedded. Am I right in thinking that me, my wife and 10 year old would all be golden for entry and to enjoy the week, but or son would have to:
1. Download Ninja pass and load it with initial PCR test before travelling in order to get into the country
2. Take gargle tests in resort every 2 days
3. Ski like the wind
Anyone over there now/just returning who has been in this situation?

@Adam9, leaving uk / entering Austria? If that your question, you need to provide the proof to the airline as they are labile for checking that you meet the entry requirements, I can only speak to BA they will request your proof from 72 hours before departure, which would be you PDF from the NHS App including QR codes and the results of your 48 hr PCR test.

No, no app - you can download the PDF for printing here: https://info.bmlrt.gv.at/dam/jcr:ce3ad47e-7953-4ee2-bb6c-3acba00e8b02/Holiday_Ninja_Pass_e_barrierefrei.pdf
There is loads of information on how to get and conduct gargle tests on most resort websites that I've seen - as far as I can tell it should be as simple as taking teenager to the local Spar first thing every other morning, conduct gargle test, post in box, go skiing and wait for certification to come through via email.
If Austria entry PCR is from Friday, then I'll have him take a test Sunday AM (valid until Wednesday), Tuesday AM (valid until Friday), Thursday AM (valid until we are home!).
Anyone who's done this kind of thing, please share your experiences

@FastEddie v2.0, Hi FE although we weren't on a teenager testing schedule, we recently returned from Mayrhofen using the gargle test to gain our 'freedom' to travel back to the UK and it was simple, free and from Spar.
Good luck

I was referring to the QR code that is printed at the top of some/most PCR tests. If they don't scan them (I've been on 8 flights this year and never had a test code scanned) I wonder how many people are just making/editing fake test certificates..... The whole system is bonkers.

@Adam9, when you submit it to BA they use a scanning system to verify you documents, only when it errors does it go to a manual intervention, QR codes are also read by the UK Gov on the return to home form.

I've filled the return home form several times, you can scan codes but it's optional, I never have been able to as I have never had paper copies of the results, only the ones on my phone. There is no standardised way of validating the PCR tests, it would need someone to scan the QR code on the document and then visually inspect the digital copy of the document held by whichever company preformed your test to check it is the same as the paper copy, this is where my query lies I've never had anyone at the check in desk / border control do anything other than give the test results a cursory glance.

@FastEddie v2.0, without derailing the thread, it was excellent fairly normal apart from masks when entering/leaving bars, the 10.00pm curfew didn't spoil our fun. Booster QR glanced at to show 3 of 3 not scanned in resort, for bars and lift passes but was at Innsbruck Airport for our return in addition to the gargle result which were in force at that time.
ptex the requirement dropping the UK return testing is a help, my post was aimed at the simplicity and efficiency of using Austria's gargle service if called for.

This is my thinking, but I cannot get an answer from people who have been. I know a person went over Christmas and only got asked for a passport in Innsbruck. Then a couple from NI travelled to munich to goto mayrhofen. No checks bar a passport. You just dont know.

When I went to France in Dec they couldn't have been less interested in any of the documents. The border control guy brushed all my documents aside unread with some masterful French distain and only had a quick glance at my passport.
