@esaw1, there is a scheduled meeting of the GECKO (don't know what it stands for but is a relatively newly formed Covid specialist) committee and the government on Thursday. Haven't seen any press reports of possible lockdowns.

@Chris_n, Thanks. I must stop looking at ungrounded rumours on fb. Getting paranoid as I'm flying out on Friday.

In further news following 3 outbreaks there is a recommendation for all ski instructors to follow 2G+ regulations and have boosters and test 3 times per week. Just been to Spar to pick up 3 test kits, will do the first and drop it in the box before work tomorrow. Outbreaks were at Kirchberg ×2 ski schools and St Anton, these are mainly foreign instructors probably in shared accommodation and probably going for a beer or 2 after work.

from reading the austrian press, it appears that the tuesday meeting is a review / discussion about the past two weeks and how the current measures are going, also strongly on the agenda is the desire to reduce isolation for contacts down to around 5 or 7 days, in line with most other countries now. Austria is still a 10 day isolation.
Thursday will be the "public" announcement of any new or amended restrictions.

Are the free tests only available in East Tyrol region?
|
|
|
|
|
|
@blondends, free tests are available at testing centres throughout Austria. If you mean the Supermarket ones then the whole of Tirol and some other areas (sorry can't specify) but not the whole country.

My son (16) and I are booked to ski in Saalbach Feb half term (19-26 Feb). We're both double jabbed, but only I have the booster, as they're not available to 16 year olds in the UK yet. From my understanding of the current rules, the only way we can actually go is if he catches COVID and then we can provide proof he's fully recovered from COVID within the last 180 days
Seems like 16 &17 year olds are a bit screwed heading to Austria currently...

Perfect, thank you. Can’t believe they dish out 10 free PCR’s at a time. Great service

@Chris_n,
Do you know if I can get a LFT in Westendorf? (Fairly close to Niederau from memory) We are due to arrive on Sat 8th for a week and if there was the certainty of a Pharmacy that would be simple.
Thanks,
John

@crudeFool, you would still both need negative PCR tests under current regulations.

Thanks Chris - yep, aware of this. 16 years olds need the same level of vaccination as 18 year olds and tests, namely:
Double jabbed + booster + negative PCR test, OR
Double jabbed + proof they're fully recovered from COVID + negative PCR test
Currently booster is impossible for most 16 year olds in England, so if rules remain the same, we can't go (unless he catches COVID, which I don't want, as I don't want him missing a week of 6th form!)

@blondends, we used the Saalbach Pharmacy results in 15 minutes (LFT), supporting documentation provided to support your completion of the return to the UK form

15 yr old (born before Sept 2006) daughter in same situation! Thankfully she has had covid, just about within the 180 days, however getting acceptable proof is another story! So yes I agree 16/17 and some 15 year olds are in a bit of limbo with regards to Austria.

I’m sure they will change the rules again like Germany did a few minutes ago to remove the U.K. as an area of concern.
Of course, I am sure that there will be those that fly into Munich anyway. There are no border checks that I saw and only 2G checks in resort, which your double jabbed teenagers would pass.

Just got a reminder from BA for our forthcoming flight
"Please be aware that when travelling to Austria you must wear a FFP2 mask without an exhalation valve while on board, unless you are exempt for medical reasons. Children up to 6 years old are exempt from wearing a mask"
I think it qualifies as an entry requirement into Austria.

Rumours flying about that UK government might remove the pre departure pcr test requirement this week

@kb36, Situation will be reviewed tomorrow (Wednesday) - given usual practice, actions take effect a couple of days later (say Friday to allow for a Saturday get away... !)

There isn't a pre departure pcr test requirement in force from UK government, there is a UK arrival pcr test requirement and a pre departure to uk lateral flow test. Going out there is nothing in force from UK government

in terms of showing your vaccine status is there an App like France has that we can use? Or do we just use the NHS App? I'm thinking about printing my QR code out and sticking it somewhere practical for convenience but just wondering with code to use.

Yes the tests are just a joke because you have as much chance of catching anywhere and if you bring another omicron case in who cares. Ironically though thats the one test that could protect some has it in theory prevents everyone on the plane from getting it. It is easy to get a negative test though even if you are positive as you can just put the solution in without a sample so again probably having zero effect

@Russeh, always use the latest vaccination code you have, so the 3/3 booster one. You can use the NHS app, but you might also want to print a copy of the full certificate for ease of access (especially in the airport). You can also add the code to you Apple Wallet or equivalent for faster access, or if the NHS app isn't working/too slow.

@Swen thats what i'm thinking about doing
@Scarlet cool if the NHS ones scan i shall use the booster QR code from that. But agreed its definitely easier to have it printed out, also the app has been known to go down. While i was on the PSB last month i couldn't get on the NHS app because it logged me out and for some reason wouldn't send me a security code luckily i had it already printed as well as in the french app.

@Russeh, screenshot the booster QR code from the NHS app, I also have a paper copy tucked away just in case.
As others have said the NHS app works in Austria

I'm going to print out all 4 parts of my NHS app proof (2 shots, recovered, booster) quartered on a sheet of A4. Many times. And in my Apple Wallet...
