Piccadilly, it is a bit but snow becomes soft and forgiving on the last third. You'll love it - the top half is in great nick.

George will pop up Sunday.
Found some good powder off to the south of Grande Motte but the rest was always better on piste. Face was creamy soft moguls and good fun, even on boards. Trolls was mint.
Sache is alway good at this time of year. Great firm snow at the top and soft moguls at the bottom. If may need a bit more snow lower down, right now. It was rocky in January and the is much less snow at the moment.
Had q great day out hooning with the Melezes staff boarding team today. Loved it.
Some massive cumulus nimbus building at the moment. It could be a large dump tonight.
Fingers crossed for a powder day.

Go via Santon during early afternoon if you're after slushy moguls - but prepare for a long walk back if you're a boarder...

With the madhouse... Got into resort to spend an hour on Bollin. Snowed for three hours or so starting with big wet flakes and with the drop in tempratures, smaller ones but has stopped now. Should be a good top up of the pistes, of which we saw were fine even on busy spots. Should be a good week ahead.

Epic powder off the side of Grande Motte, Leisse and Double M this morning. First tracks everywhere.
Soft in the resorts by lunchtime and melting again by the end of the afternoon.
Totally shattered now!
George my lot dragged me down to Le Cordee to see the Cheerleaders. Sorry I missed you.

It rained quite hard in Boisses last night and there is a dusting of snow on the cars this morning. Today is totally cloudless so we are off to Grande Motte and the Fornet glacier, to enjoy the powder.

conditions superb in Tignes. Blue skies and warm today. Just did the Sache black run, it was lovely! Bit steep and slushy at the bottom but not as bad as I was expecting. Just having lunch in the sunshine at Les Brevieres now. (via SMS)

The snow will be needed, as from Friday onwards there's only plus temps forecast! Freezing levels as high at 3,650m. But that's from the same 'reliable' site.

Had great powder on Grande Motte and Fornet today. Lots of Fornet was untracked. Avis everywhere so we were selective where we went.
Unbelievably warm. Got back to find 8 girls sunbathing on Melezes deck.
The only downside was a few big queues. We heard that lots of people had been busses in from lower resorts.

Powder, fresh tracks and blue sky. What more can you want when out for a day riding in the backcountry. Today a small group of us went to Val d'Isere in search of powder and fresh tracks and we were not disappointed.
Arriving by 9.30am at the Fornet cable car, we headed straight up to the glacier and over the back of the Col Pers. Loads of room to put down fresh tracks all the way to the road by the river. Once more up the cable car and lifts this time to the top of the Signal and down the Grand Vallon with about 10cm of powder and few tracks again. Another long descent back to the bottom of the cable car.
Up to the top again and on the 'up and over' chair then a bit of off piste down to the Glacier Express chair and up to the top of Cugnai. More room for fresh tracks, although the way out was well tracked already. A nice coffee at the refuge on the way down was a welcome break. Back to the Tunnel and after a little gymnastics, through to the other side for another good powder run all the way down to the Signal restaurant for a late lunch.
Finally, back up to the Fornet Glacier and some more nice lines off piste back to the chair. A short hike from the top of the chair to the ridge on the right and a long untracked descent most of the way back to the car far below at the Fornet car park with a few trees to dodge on the way down and a river to cross at the bottom.
Quite a day. Loads of fun and one that we hope to repeat very soon. Right now the areas above 2000m are the places to head whether in Espace Killy, Paradiski or the 3 Valleys. In my opinion, high up the snow is still good, whilst lower resorts are now struggling for good snow. We were all very pleased with the quality of snow in all these higher areas today, but lower down in the afternoon the snow became very heavy and wet.

Just got back from sainte foy. Skid Saturday at Val and Sunday in tignes. Both brilliant days. The piste are icy first thing but then quickly soften up. I thought due to the temperature the snow would of been at lot worse. When I left today it was raining at 1200 m so hopefully up top it may of snowed. The glaciers we're excellent and weather was super hot.

It seems all the EK web cams have been turned off, except for Solaise.
Chamonix's are still on. Other than GM, that resort must be shut.

Must be a technical problem as today was another great day with excellent skiing under cloudless skies
Spotted my first marmotte yesterday so spring must be here.

A group of us from Les Arcs came up to spend the day in Tignes today. Found some good snow on the Grande Motte and also on the Tour de Pramecou, Chardonnet bowl and even on La Familiale on our way over to the FD bar party. Even made a quick detour for photos at the 'Eye' at the Aiguille Percee as well. A good a day and although very soft later, plenty of spring snow to be found although the general view of the group was that the snow on the Bellecote in La Plagne the day before was just as good. Tomorrow we shall be in the Three valleys, should be another fun day.

Yep, I have been looking at them this morning. Must have been a technical hitch. It's still looking very good up there!
Pam, no, but it looks like they should be (see photo on 'Crikey' thread).

^ Ah thanks, actually edited the post 'coz I found the closing date but didn't realise it was just Tignes that stayed open from the 1st to the 8th.
Anyway, I was also wondering whether they're likely to stay open that long - I'm guessing given the altitude they probably are but if anyone could confirm that'd be good

Why do you think they will close early?
Skied winter snow on the glacier this morning, followed by spring snow on the descent into val claret and afterwards great skiing on piste around the tranquil area.

Just back from a superb week in EK. Loads of beautiful snow, and no punters to speak of. Yes, it was (according to the thermometers) 25 degrees, yes the runs down to resort were quite slushy in the afternoons, but there is what 300km (?) of skiing in EK, and only a tiny fraction of runs were actually closed. And if you don't want to ski the lower runs in the afternoon, that only leaves you with 150km of skiing for the afternoons. The pisteurs have done an amazing job. We enjoyed watching them on Saturday afternoon setting off an avalance above Trolles, dumping a load of snow exactly on the brown patches - very clever.
Make sure you wear a hat, though.
Met some people at the airport (during a four hour delay) who had been in Avoriaz and had not - since Wednesday - skied after 11am.
On Saturday went over to the Val glacier (that's a very long traverse from Tignes - almost as though they don't want Tignes guests messing up their snow) where the conditions were excellent for anything above Solaise, and the glacier area was superb.
N.B. The entrance into the ski tranquille from the top of Borsat, by 4pm, was like a difficult red. What a superb area with something for everybody and absolutely great off-the-piste opportunities whilst accompanying those who find the greens a challenge...
Thanks to Stewart for some excellent tuition (even if I did bring him his most difficult customers of the season - sorry!)
Best day IMO Monday when it was raining quite hard at resort level at 9am. Turned to snow about 200-300m up the Palafour and visibility was often quite poor though there were patches of sunshine around pretty much all day. Several inches of snow fell, and by 3.30 it had stopped, the sun came out, the pistes were completely empty and there was a good powder layer. Then froze very hard overnight, and the sun shone for the rest of the week - horribly hot at some points, and I think I've never disliked skiing as much as doing Piste H after lunch which really catches the full brunt of the sun and heat.
I see there's (quite heavy) snow forecast for later in the week, and temperatures are supposed to put freezing level at resort height too. It's far from the end of the season for EK.

James the Last, glad you had a blast. I was there 2 weeks ago, couldn't agree more with your points.
The entrance to the 3 "greens" that fan out from the top of Borsat is a bit of a joke though - I'm sure it scares the hell out of timid beginners.

James the Last, great report thanks. Great to hear the temps are dropping later this week, not that it seems to be causing any real problems. I'm off out there this Friday so some fresh snow would be good.
