Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Libertine, take the main road from Morzine in the direction of Thonon and it's signposted on the left (about 10km, anyone?).

Libertine, the skiing that's to be had at Grande Turche is skiing really well, but I'm told the circuit isn't open at the moment.

Is there much closed in the Morzine/Les Gets area currently? Presumably some of the runs down to resort and south-facing slopes e.g. Mont-Chery must be pretty bare? Arriving on Sunday...

FlyingStantoni, is correct, the circuit is closed but the pistes with snow making on are in good nick. This picture was taken yesterday.

Victor has really lovely timing into the gates. I wish I was half as good.

Emma, Charles and (particularly) Caitlin are all getting there though. And, given the age difference, Victor needs to be very worried.

Charles, in particular, is very, very good for his age. Earlyish in. Lateish out.

Better than me.

MrsFs described the run down the front of Grande Turche as run of the seaon a couple of days ago.

(But that might have been the vin chaud.)

Great to see those little groms go! Very impressive. Scarily near that drag lift, one or two of those gates. You can clearly see one little sodlet waving at the racer coming down - gamesmanship?

Spent the morning in Champery yesterday (Sunday) braving the much needed snow for some great conditions on and to the side of pistes. Quick wet snow unfortunately and my skis definitely need some wax. Lapping on the Mosettes chair the way to go due to better visibility next to the trees.

Need to be careful as a lot of bare ground is now covered by 10 cms of fresh masking the rocks and dangers below.

Skied Chamossiere this morning. Max 15cms new snow. Pistes ok, rocks hidden but not covered. Off piste, no base, so after two turns hitting the bottom gave up. Conditions, on the surface at least, improved.

Spent yesterday morning in the tree's in Lindarets as it dumped. 15cm's +
Today was a selfish morning taking out the Field of Dreams on Chaux Fleurie side.
Good fun, but the numbers will tell and soon have it back to base when the sun comes out (which it has).
Raquettes tomorrow methinks. Walk away from the Parisians and Chelsea tractor hordes.

DallyPaul, Sorry to say we are a Chelsea tractor type! But living in Northumberland it is kind of necessary!
Much better skiing this morning, pistes were nice, but had gone backwards this afternoon. Still good to get the planks on the snow though.
It is a different feeling being here as a chalet owner rather than a punter, loving it!

you're a chalet owning punter now, Chattonmill, the local economy will be looking for a much bigger contribution from you. A plumber is just the start. wink

Went to meet the cousins in Champoussin yesterday.......FAR TOO MANY PEOPLE ...... on the slopes especially over in Avoriaz and around Les Lindarets!! Conditions holdig up this mornings snow will help a bit but as zzz, says a little bit just hides the rocks and ice which are all still there....cousins daughter had a chat with a tree and was helicoptered off the mountain (She's ok though just bruising)...Swiss piste rescue were great!

zzz, Fornet/VDM was good on Tuesday NehNeh will be even better after this bit of snow....need to get hole in skis repaired 1st though!

Snowing here again today. Approx 10cm's so far freshening things up.

Yesterday morning we skied in Les Crosets on sunny pistes. There really isn't enough snow around there to ski off piste but anything that has snow making is holding up well. We skied Fornet and Haut Forts in the afternoon and found nice snow. There were still a few unskied bits in between the higher pistes.
Today we went to Les Gets. I havn't been over that way for a while. I was surprised by how many pistes are closed; basically anything without snow making. The new snow improving things on piste but much more is required.

Still snowing.

Well it would appear that half of Paris decided to avoid the traffic and drive through the night thereby freeing up another day on the slopes for themselves.
After lunch they were gone though Very Happy

Never have I seen the entrance to Vallee de la Manche so tracked out before!

On a brighter note, the skiing was lovely, had a top day, blue skies, Marmotte for lunch and still bits off the sides to play in.

Now, let's hope the forecast is right for tonight...

Hmmm, what's disturbing is that if you get it wrong you can get it very wrong, or find yourself in very avalanche prone terrain. It seems to be treated these days as an itineraire, which (AFAIK) it very definitely is not.

Any reports from on the spot? Looks to be raining on the Foilleuse webcam in Morgins.

Hopefully fresh snow to valley level when the temperature drops.

I'm starting to show interest now - only 2 weeks to go!
