yes snow to valley level. But it did rain in briancon today, and it was unable to make its mind up for about an hour or 2 this afternoon. But it is snowing again.
There is lots of snow up there, when you fall over offpiste (which i try very hard not to do) it is very deep. But there are parts of the mountain, the gullies, that are still rivers. But not to fear it is fab up there. Got to the cucumel today, despite no vision on that horrid cat track. Kept close to the piste but in pow for the first bit as the vis was so bad, then it cleared and whoooo hooo what joy, both sides total fresh lines to be had.
Very few stones, infact the ones i saw were at the top of the oree du bois.
Really very satisfying.
carled,
Le derriere is as black as a wrotton peach! but i did fall on it a few time (typically over moguls offpiste!) but am seriously relieved i didn't go up before, it hurt enough today!
Lots more snow due tonight, i think a little jaunt up the prorel and aguillette are in order!

Thanks for the reports snowangel - keep em' coming - weather forecast suggests that there is going to be a hell of a lot of snow over the next week or so, although the snow level is going to be up and down a bit - still very exciting!
Have a great day on the hill, keep off the derriere!

and of course snowangel.,
Anyone got children who our daughter could board/ski/play with? A month is a long time to go without friends!
Unfortunately not managed to get her any group lessons during our first week or 2 so she'll need some non-adult company.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

marmalade, how old is the daughter?
i would suggest sat afternoon at the grotte apres ski time would be a good time to meet some local kids. teen agers are harder to please.

marmalade,
Yep we'll certainly be up for a beer - we are staying in Chantermerle at Les Marmottes, arriving late 31st. Afraid no kids this time around - those with kids (the guys) have all got away without the other halves!
BTW, anyone know of Axesse for off-piste guiding/lessons - especially for boarders? Just saw them on the SC website and had not come across them before.

chris,
You can't miss us! Hubby has a black and white Grenade jacket covered in grafitti. I've got a green and white Vans jacket with a kinda paisley pattern. So we look like an accident in a paint factory!
BTW we're staying at L'Auberge au Petit Lard in Le Bez (near Villeneuve?)
snowangel., Thea is 7.

lib-banana, speak to Generation snow in le serre d'aigle
marmalade, Le Grotte is at the foot of the Mickey piste or l'aravet (bottom) of the lift. There are lots of kids of around that age. My daughter is 8, i can think of at least 5 other kids the same age, all english speaking who might be at la grotte for apres ski generally. NOrmally after 5pm on school days bit earlyer on a sat.

marmalade, nice one. Better leave it up to me to hunt you down as I'm usually dressed all in black. My favouite area is above Le Bez and mostly use Club Med or Casse de B lifts, so very likely to run into each other (not literally, of course).

Ahhh the wonderful Karin & Denis Lucas. Have you stayed there before? If not, you're in for a gastronomic treat - Karin is a terrific cook. And Les Marmottes a fabulous chalet. Denis used to be a wine merchant so the quality of wine always v good

marmalade, have pm'd you my mobile number so give us a call and we'll hook up maybe take the girls out skiing/snowboarding on weekend day.
i'm working at the ticket office this weekend and not sure if i'll need to do more as i'm covering one of the full time staff who has broken her should. bad luck for her but great for me!
anyway. totally gorgeous day today, cold but sunny. Snow is absolutely superb, can not find fault with it (as long as i kept on my feet!) The pow is still fresh and there is still some to be had. The pistes are great and with the new snow due tomorrow will be even better.
Spent most of today in the Melezone shooting the kids, with a camera not a gun!
Will post a couple later.

Hoorah, we were due to fly out on Sunday and have been on tenterhooks all week as our son had suspected glandular fever last week and prior. Anyway results came back OK today so our insurance is valid to travel, fab!
Suppose we'd better get some Euros before Sunday (and book the airport parking, waterproof the skiwear..........loads to do) does anybody know what the rates are like in resort at the moment?

col du Lauteret between Grenoble and Serre Chevalier is closed due to an avalanche - check before setting out on the RD 1091. You need snow tyres/chains for the rest of the road network in the region. Conditions are very difficult today.

snowangel.,
I'm coming out to Serre Chevalier on 01st Feb for 5 days, staying at Chantemerle. Great to see the snowy pictures you are posting . One of our group has only had a few days of skiing, so he is looking to book some private lessons. Of the schools based at Chantemerle, do you have any particular recommendations? Would be grateful for your advice. Thanks.

ennalsj, Generation snow! Everytime, for skiing or snowboarding. They are all great instructors, most of them also coach the local team.
I cant recommend them more strongly. Hope to still be out and about riding over that week so look out for me, not hard to miss in them colours and with my headphones!
davidof, thanks for the heads up, any idea where the slide was?

Hi, does anybody know what time the ski equipment hire places are open until in Villeneuve on Sunday and what time the lift pass office opens/closes. We land in Turin around 17.30 local time so I'm guessing we won't be in Villeneuve until 20.00? Is anything likely to be open or will it be a case of getting it all sorted Monday morning. I didn't pre-book anything as I wasn't certain we'd be travelling.
Thanks

drkpower, the live webcam on the SC website (at monetier I think) shows it snowing at the moment - although it looks like wet snow rather than light fluffy stuff - should be good all over the mountain though I'd imagine

Better than good all over the mountain today. In fact, as good as it gets, apart from the visibility. Difficult to judge the amount of fresh today, but off-piste the snow was thigh deep Still snowing lightly at 1500m and no sign of rain.
Cafu, you will be a bit late, so wait 'till Monday. There's few people around, so there is plenty of choice for gear.
