Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Taking teenagers skiing this winter?

That is a positive step forward@Timmycb5, now if I can just get the boy to lick the door handles at school, we should be good for the season.
In all seriousness, I don't care what they say, the only reason 12-15 year old's are not being offered a second jab is down to supply issues, be it vaccine or people to administer it.

Sounds like you’re in the same boat as us. 14yo single jabbed but afaik she hasn’t had it yet. I also think it’s either supply / delivery issues (most likely) or that they knew they couldn’t provide digital proof that have stopped or held up the 12-15yr olds completing the vaccine schedule.

Yes, I’ve gave up hope on having it sorted for NY week and are accepting the 100 euro testing tax but we also have a sneaky weekend away end of January & half term, as well as Easter so let’s hope they have something sorted ASAP for the very small group that seems to be affecting a lot of families

Yes - we are also going to hope the testing is all negative in France over new year and have just swapped from Austria to Switzerland for half term … well aware how lucky we are to be able to go away, but it’s the unfairness for 12-15yr olds vs everyone else that’s crap. My kids missed a family visit (we’re a mixed Spanish/ british family) over half term because of the testing requirement.

How is that any different with Finland and lets say Andorra?

To get to Andorra you have to transit via France or Spain, so will presumably need to meet their COVID requirements. A quick check suggests that might require presentation of a test result.

Hello, beware we swapped from Italy to Andorra due to all the hassle with my 12 yr old. However you must transit France and now France have changed the testing. You can’t do a self administered test which means a private testing centre in both Uk and Andorra

“arrivals from the UK aged 12 years old or over are required to present evidence of a negative test (PCR or antigen) taken within 24 hours of departure (first flight departure in case of connecting flight). Self-administered tests are not accepted”.

So for us living in the lakes it means a trip to Manchester the day before our flight Sad

OK, here are the letters I received from my MP. The MP letter, though only received yesterday, looks like it was written a while ago. Perhaps he was waiting until he had a response from DoH? Bits in bold brackets are my comments.

Quote:
Dear Mr XXX, thank you for contacting me about COVID-19 travel passes for teenagers. I can completely appreciate your concerns regarding this matter. It is understandable that, after a difficult 18-months, families should want to look forward to international travel.

I am aware that it is the growing international standard to require a two dose regiment of an approved vaccine to be considered 'fully vaccinated'. I do understand that this may be inconvenient when travelling with those under 18s, as the UK operates a policy of one dose for this age group. Whilst it is the case that in many countries with vaccination rules for entry, children under 16 are treated as being fully vaccinated, this does not apply to all countries.

At every point in the vaccination programme, decisions have been guided by the best clinical advice. This includes the decision to deliver a one-dose regiment to under 18s. Give the success fo the rollout amongst adults, it is possible to take a more precautionary approach to rollout among younger people. For those aged 16-18, this means that the first doses will be prioritised and recommendations on the second dose will be delayed to allow the JCVI to provide the best available advice with the latest information for the second dose. I welcome this approach, which will ensure younger people are provided with some immediate protection from severe disease. I understand that the aim is for the second dose to be given later as this will extend protection for a longer period. Further data and the potential availability of alternative vaccine options (no idea what this means?)will inform exact details which will be set out in due course. The NHS COVID Pass is currently available to those aged 16 years an dover, and will demonstrate an individual is 'fully vaccinated' three weeks after their second dose. (three weeks?! That seems new!)

Please be assured that the Government is aware of the difficulties that may arise for teenagers wishing to travel internationally due to this one dose-regiment. To alleviate this, they are therefore exploring ways for fully vaccinated children aged 12 years old to demonstrate their vaccination status for travel. Currently, a plan is being worked on that would allow children to demonstrate proof of having COVID antibodies. I look forward to learning more about this in due course.

First and foremost, these decisions are taken wiht the safety of our children in mind. I can completely appreciate your concerns regarding travel for teenagers and will therefore write to my ministerial colleagues at the Department of Health and Social Care to seek further detail on these plans. I will be in touch once I receive a response.

Phew. That the heavens that I can touch type 60 words per minute.

Here is the letter from DoH

Quote:
Dear Robert, thank you for your correspondence of 3 November on behalf or your constituent Mr Timmy, about COVID-19 vaccination status certification for children.

I am grateful to you for raising Mr Timmy's concerns.

The NHS COVID Pass service is currently only available to individuals aged 16 and over. Children aged 16 and 17 are deemed to have enough competence to access their own medical records.

Children under 18 are exempt from certification in England and proof of vaccination is generally not an entry requirement for children for other countries, with testing available as an alternative.

However, we recognise that there is a growing number of children aged 12 to 15 who are now receiving a full course of vaccination, and a growing requirement from other countries for children to demonstrate their vaccination status. We are therefore exploring ways to allow fully vaccinated children aged 12 and over to demonstrate their vaccination status for the purpose of international travel.

Most 12-15-year-olds are offered only one vaccine dose; however, the international standards required for travel require a full course of vaccination for an individual to be recognised as 'fully vaccinated'.

A very small number of countries will accept proof of recovery from COVID-19 to allow under-16s to be treated as fully vaccinated. In preparation for more countries accepting proof of recovery, we are looking at this element of certification, including for children who may have only had one vaccine does.

Before travelling abroad, individuals should check the entry requirements for their destination, as requirements for testing and vaccination can vary from country to country. Further details on entry requirement can be found at www.gov.uk by searing for 'coronavirus travel advice'.

I hope this reply is helpful

@Jonny996, correct BUT if your teen is double jabbed it may be useful and my point was really that it is possible to show the status for children (whether that status is actually any use in Europe is another matter of course!) but if they roll out 2nd vaccine to under 16s OR EU rules change to accept single jab it is still worth pushing Govt to get it sorted for teens now.

Just announced live by the French Minister of Health :

Quote:
PCR and antigen tests will only have a 24-hour value for the health pass
While access to the health pass was possible with a PCR or antigen test of less than 72 hours, this will no longer be the case from Monday, November 29, announced Olivier Véran

Does anyone know if Switzerland has any equivalent for the passe sanitaire for under 16s, particularly with respect to using ski lifts?!
That would now seem to be the only realistic destination to ski with 12-15 UK teenagers.

Susang73, I think Ireland is a possibility, but you’d still have the issue of how to prove they’re fully jabbed. Although there must be a way - there are people coming into Europe from all over who don’t have an EU QR code and they are managing somehow, no?

Just got the same letter word for word from my MP. rolling eyes (well, apart from the name Laughing Laughing )
It seems to be the usual, make reference to the issue, say it is being looked at, yet give no indication as to when anything might happen. Then mix it in with a bit of govt fluff about international travel and a link to the gov website, and hurrah, all is good. We have dealt with the issue Sad

The very reason we are getting in contact with them is because there is no info on the website that deals with our issues, and it would seem that the DoH are keen to allow children to decide if they want the vaccination or not, but not grown up enough to have control of their records - and yet, neither can the parents (to the degree of actually raising the require evidence of vaccinations).

The MP didn't seem to have a grasp on it too much either. But, we are agitating the pot, so we can but hope.

Dear Checkflaps,

I have received a response from the Department of Health and Social Care and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Vaccines and Public Health, Maggie Throup MP.

The Minister has explained that they are aware of a growing requirement from other countries for 12 - 15-year-olds to demonstrate their vaccination status. In this background, the Secretary has confirmed that the department are exploring ways to allow fully vaccinated children aged 12 and over to show their vaccination status for the purpose of international travel.

The Minister has given further details regarding foreign travel and vaccines for children, and I have included a copy of the letter here for your further reference.

Thank you again for bringing this case to my attention and I hope that is of some help to you and your family. If there is anything else I can do as our local MP, please do let me know.

With my very best wishes,

Luke

@Tiefschneetaucher, if you are outside the EU you can get proof by completing a form and getting signed off.

Plus the guidance states proof of vaccination and a pdf is OK, doesn't specifically say you have to have a QR code.

I am finding the whole thing really frustrating, and I don't want my child feeling guilty as she is impacting on everyone else's holiday plans. She has already mentioned about staying home with Granny so she isn't a pain. Which isn't happening, even if we both ski every morning and finish early every day she will be coming with us. Just annoying that we have to do that.

Nendaz (we own there) arent opening the Tracouet sector (officially) till 18th, so you have to get to Siviez (Bus / car)
Similarly, Veysonaz, if the past few years are indicative, will be cut off from the 4V until 17/18th
